all thats needed is a simple "yes." but ill explain why.
HUGE world, 15 starter classes, many races, open sea, flying mounts, mid-air fights, YEARS of development, a crafting experience like no other, diplomacy sphere(like a mini card game. like KOTOR with their card game, except a little more in-depth) rideable mounts, ships, 2 more classes will be added eventually, and constant big fixes and updates.
one of the few things it lacks is NPC life. they dont interact with each other, and they dont move or do anything really. but that will probably(hopefully) be changed.
also, there are a lot of bugs. but they are getting fixed by the day.
all that's need is a simple no but I will show you why

notice the guy sinking into the ground, also when he fought the mob the sword was swung shoulder height never gets close to the mob even

see the girl floating 3 feet in the air? there is no levitation skill as far as I know
these screen shots were taken this morning on this machine

which has a quite respectable 3D Mark06 score

and still averages 17 FPS
no the game is not worth it, these issues should have been resolved months ago, not still be in the game a week before it hits the shelves. Just say no to half finished games, otherwise the Devs will keep releasing them half finished.

this morning about 10 or 11 am EST. Server 1 , light load. I saw a post touting the new patch, discovered that I had not deleted the zip install file from beta 3 so I reinstalled it to see what this miracle patch did. After install it took about 30 minutes to patch up which really surprised me as the file date on that zip was October the 11th 2006.
Performance was worse than it was last week and the graphical bugs and animations just as bad if not worse also. Hitching was definitly worse. Some textures did seem to have improved but that may just have been me trying to find something positive to post about the patch. They did however fix rthe glittery trees which was one of the more annoying graphical errors in my opinion.

Cool, I could not log for the last couple days and i might be able tonight. Strange... on the official beta board, it seems that perf are going UP, not DOWN like you are mentionning.

They were still game controlled as usual. The other game I am beta' ing has not suffered a FPS hit either, so I think my hardware is ok.

First...my system
AMD 64 3000 OC'ed to 2.127 mhz (a modest overclock)
2 GB dual channel ram
Nvidia 6600
on board sound
I run the game at 1280 x 1024 at the second best performance setting.
The game runs between 15 and 40 fps and is never unplayable. I get a few hitches here and there but nothing is a game breaker.
I think that alot of people are just whiners when they talk aboutthe game running really crappy. The game as it is right now runs fine and will improve.
The people that are getting really bad performance might have computers that just need to be updated or have nice computers and dont know how to tweak them properly. There are plenty of guides available for both computer tweaking and overclocking and tweaking the game settings.
In summary: I will be playing this game... and I am a former Vanguard hater.
Basically, if you're looking for the best graphics and bug-free gameplay, you might want to look elsewhere. Maybe a different genre, since MMO's aren't about graphics alone and there will always be bugs. Vanguard is being released too early, I'll say that. It does have many bugs. But it also has the most depth of any MMO I've seen, and I'm really looking forward to playing it in live.
If you really have that big of a problem with bugs, just wait a few months before you get the game.
We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.
while it may have been that bad before(doubt it)
most people have reported they get better FPS since last nights update.
average-good computers average out at 20-30 town. 40-50 land. and 60+ dungeon.
AMD XP 3500+ Winchester (Single Core)
1G 333MHz DDR + 1G 266MHz (causing my memory to run at 266, I know, I have to replace it soon )
Leadtek 6800GT PCIe 256 (driver ver. 91.31)
Default INI settings, no tweaks.
The advances the devs have made since open beta started are astouding. I am also amazed at all the people that gave up on Vanguard way too early....the game is better than its ever been and gets bettter every day.
Don't miss this one guys,.....this will be the experience like many of us have been looking for a long time....I come as an ex-EQ and pre-CU and would go as far as to say this is exactly what I was looking for to fill my MMO void since pre-CU SWG.
You have got to be joking right? The game performs worse today than it did 2 weeks ago. Not to mention the graphical bugs where people float in the air and fall into the ground. Heck they can't even get the sword swing to come close to the mobs yet LOL. I guess the wind from the guy swinging his sword at slouder level killed that big beetle. ROFL
Wait for the ten day free trial , don't waste your money.

Thanks those are real screenshots taken by that machine this morning with the graphics set at the highest quality level. Not some renders from Maya or other 3D program posted by a dev or paid employee of SOE/Sigal

Honestly, give it say... 3 months? Let them iron out the bugs a little more with the money they get from people who subscribe now.
Read up on the game from official non-biased reviews (Yes, they do exist still).
See if you have a friend who plays and will let you try using their account to play.
While you wait, have you ever set up a private WoW server and soloed MC? It will keep you busy while you decide if Vanguard is right for you.
hmm thx guys...
I have one last question.Does your character play a role in the history? Does it interfere and maybe change sth in the history ? Somewhere i read that your character plays a role in the games history and id like to know if this is true.

My system is not like yours and my game does not look bad at all.
Performance for me and others (seems to be only you that is having worst performance instead of better... really weird) keeps INCREASING.

oh I am sure yours will be much bettter than mine. Fanboy screens are always awesome looking. Remember the awesome screens Blacksac used to post in the DNL Forums? let me refresh your memory

I figure some were just renders from whatever 3d program Farlan used, the rest might have been real ingame and then just doctored in Photshop. The one I post are from a core 2 duo and EVGA 7900 GT all settings maxxed, and they have never been doctored or tampered with in any way.
Now go ahead and post your awesome screenies.

My frames have gone up. Performance is far better than a couple of weeks ago. Many other people confirm the same thing. Are we all wrong and you're right?
The game is performing better that is a flat out fact. I'm not sure what's going on with your rig but your experience just doesn't match with the vast majority of posts I've seen on performance the last few days. I believe it is running worse on your box for some reason. But if its running better for everybody but you then I'd say the problem lies on your end somewhere.
As for the bad performance, at the start of the beta, i think it's fair to say over half of the people trying to play beta were having pretty tough problems with the game. As the beta is closing, fewer and fewer people are experiencing problems and reports of more fps are coming in.
The only way you'll REALLY know, is trying it yourself, by the beta or some trial in the future, or maybe a friend that'll get it. I couldn't give you a good way to describe what kind of gamer you have to be to enjoy Vanguard, so the best way to go about it is to get your own feel for it.
dunno either it seemed to drop a few FPS for me in the last week. My other beta game has gained FPS understandably and those are the only 2 games I have played in a while. Graphical errors seem to be worse than even beta 3 judging from the 15 minutes or so I was loggen in yesterday. three in that time.
Bottom line is ianyone who still had the zip file laying around shoud see for themselves, but I would not bet a 50 dollar bill on it being better.
