Need something new....

As of yesterday, i have officially retired my character in WoW.  I have been growing bored of the game for the last month or so, but the expansion pushed me over the edge.  It doesnt change anything.  Just more of the same old stuff that I have been getting tired of.  Now, for a while, i was on the defense of WoW, but i still heard a lot of bashing on it.  It made me wonder whether or not they have actually found a better game.  If it is free, that would make it all the better, but i am looking for a new game to play.  THis doesnt necessarily have to be a RPG.....just something that is MMO.  I would appreciate any feedback

Currently the only MMO out I'll pay for is City of Villains(City of heroes is nice too but kind of outdated).

It really depends on what you want in a game though. CoV has better combat, way more character customsation, and is less cookie cutter in some ways.

But it's not fantasy. You want be able to play your Dwarves and Elves, and Goblins. I think it's a nice change to fight Gang Members, Clockwork Robots and Frankistienian Zomibes rather than Kobalds though. It's more enemy within theamed than other MMOs too, you fight humans all the time. A lot of the missions are very well written if you read the text(I know some people feel that way about WoW, but I personaly think those people are noobs who haven't even played other video games that aren't WoW).

The most major drawback is heavy instancing. You won't be running around with your fellow heroes/villians in a persistant world. However, this is made up most of the time by an absolutely wonderful community. I've never seen friendlier folks. Usually you can find a deccent group within 15 minutes and they'll stick with you for at least a few hours.

Osually there's some sort of free trial. If not you should be able to find a free trial code on their forums here.
