Actually i think we can guess the main reason he hasant updated it is partly due to the fact that most MMO companys keep there subsciber numbers secret.

    It never was alive.

1 Guy's Guess on the population of MMOs he doesn't play is as good as me guessing when the world will end.

That and when people heard about the site his data collection methods were found to be beyond poor and inaccurate. He bit off more than he could chew and was ripped to shreds for stating his data as "fact". He is most likely not updating it for fear of more reprisals.

    Where did this ripping happen?

It has always been updated seldom.

Every update has lead to a plethora of ripping on podcasts and most blogs. His collections methods have always been guessing of far too little actual data.

If he claimed it for what is was (a very rough estimation) then it would be different, but he combined semi solid data and pure guesses into one data collection and that just doesn't work. If someone was being paid to do that they would be fired.

Because they don't want everyone to know that people are leaving in droves :)

I think some people are just very black&white thinkers. Even though he does explain how he got the numbers, how they could be off, and that they are rough estimates. He's always been pretty clear about that. Some people just see the numbers, and feel that if they're rough, they shouldn't be presented at all. Also, some people consider +/-10% to be wildly innacurate, whereas others consider it close enough. It's all relative, unless the numbers are exact, and from what I've read, no, he never claimed that they were.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
