The only thing I never do, and hate when people do, is try and act the opposite sex. It just angers me, because first of all, you can sometimes see through this, second, it's kind of gay/wrong, and third, you might mislead someone into liking you, and screw a lot of things up.

    Hah, two things.

One, I've known quite a few men who play women because they are a little on the effeminate side. Not flamboyantly metrosexual or anything, but shall we say, a little more likely to type "okies" than most of us. Are you saying they're wrong, and should try to act more macho?

Two, don't you think maybe having a crush on someone in an MMO is the part that's wrong? I shouldn't have to tell everyone that I'm really a guy, just to be on the safe side. Sadly, I speak from experience. "Ack, dude, I'm a guy! I thought you kept duoing with me because we're a good levelling team!"

    Oh, and lastly, "gay/wrong?" :p

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

uhm... my char is my creature... a son... a daughter... this is another point of view, isn't it?

do u think getting a pet of opposite sex in RL is a form of perversion?

there's something wrong in this post... have u ever tried to play only 4 the mere pleasure of playin'?

    my 2 cents

Wow I cannot believe there has been 11 pages of posts about this... who cares, it's all in good fun.  I myself am vain and require character customization so I can create 'myself' in the game.  Whatever others look like is their own thing - so long as they aren't losers who walk around going 'N00B', peace be with them.

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Would be better if males played males and females played females.  I bet 98% of the female characters are dudes.  Probably about 60% of them wish they were female.

I'd rather talk to a girl like I would talk to a girl in real life, and talk to a guy like I would in real life. Sorry but I don't really understand why someone would pretend to be the opposite sex.

It's a role playing game, if a guy wants to role play as a girl, that's what it's there for.  I personally have my preference of class and gender, like when I make a hunter I always make them female, if I make a knight/fighter/whatever it'll be male.  I base my gender selection off what I think is better suited for the class.

See, why do people still think I "pretend" to be a girl or "roleplay" a girl when my female char's name is "MrT", "Tom", "CableGuy", all taken from my irl nicks, or when I play exclusively with my irl friends?

I call upon everyone to play opposite sex characters and pretend to be that sex in real life!

Let the homophobes be ware! By hitting on us will be corrupted! You're only hope for salvation is to stop playing!

For many of you, it is too late.

Who gives a damn if a guy plays a girl char and vice versa? I personally have a few girl chars on Guild Wars because I prefere their emotes to the guys of their profession, their armour looks way cooler, n their casting actions or whatever you wana call them (jump up in air, call down fire from above) look way better too. The male elementalist is GW is just sad (even though I have one)

Do you talk to an elf like you talk to an elf in real life?

Get a solid grasp on reality before you start playing fantasy games.

playing exclusively with your irl friends won't tell anyone you're not female, but if they still attempt to hit on you with nicks like that then the issue is in their head but seriously, why would you play a female character with a name like that unless -- in the case of this game -- you had no choice but to?  Unless that's the only reason you're doing it.

Are people even listening to me?

    1: I don't roleplay.

2: I'll choose whatever avatar I think looks the best. Not which "looks the most like me" or which avatar "I would like to look like".

3: Being male, I'm naturally more biased towards the look of females.

You know, maybe you're the one who's wrong for trying to flirt in a computer game? How many people want to put up with that nonsense? They make other MMOs for that. Course, in those sorts of games, you may find yourself cybering with another guy... you may want to consider keeping your flirting to real life, where you know who you're flirting with, unless you're, you know, really open minded :p

Usually seems to be the young'uns who think that has anything to do with it. And they're the ones who actually play female characters for that reason, too. And the ones who actually fall for it.

Back in the early days, maybe you could fool people, but in most MMOs I've played since EQ, almost everyone assumes female characters are really guys. At least untill they start talking about being a mom, thier husband, waitressing job, etc - even then, funny how many people don't believe any of it.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest whether boys play girls or girls play boys.  My fiance's main toon is female, but all his alts are male.  I prefer to keep all my toons female.  My sister played a male in EQ1 - she didn't like the female avatars.  In DAOC, I had a female guildmember who's main was a male armsman - was her husband's old account and she adopted him early on.

Gender issues?  Bah.  It's a game, plenty of reasons for people to choose the opposite sex to play.  To each their own.

I couldn't care less who plays what and why.

Sometimes armor does look nicer on a female toon, and sometimes the customazation options of female toons are more appealing. Good! Let's play a female then.

Another pretty good(and also pretty funny) reason that guys play girls is that when acting like a female ingame, you get more free stuff, people are nicer to you and pay you more attention. So there are some nice perks playing the oppisite sex.

Then don’t flirt with strangers on the internet, you never really know what’s on the other end of the wire.

I used to play with someone who was female IRL (as far as I know ;) ) and played female toons but usually hated it when guys would try to flirt with her. She had this whole spiel about how she was 9 years old and it was her birthday next month. She could stay in character for hours if she wanted. It had to be one of the funniest running jokes I’ve seen.

    I have two basics ideas:

    Boys:

    - Male char: OK, now I play.

    - Fermale char: OK, I have a girl to do all that I want.

    Girls:

    - Male char: OK, no boys trying flirt with me

    - Fermale char: OK, now I play. OMG! Lot of whispers...

Not a rule... just a reson.

Im so sad that girls cant play happy in a MMORPG, always have guys flirting... OMG, try to got a girl friend in real life... LOL

Well I gotta say that I play some female characters and no I'm not gay and I don't have anything against them ether I have a wife and kids and I'm in reaching my 30s, so what do I think of the whole thing, to each his own ! we all pay for the game, but to say too  someone,he has some kind of gender problem is just plain wrong and childish !

Solutiojn: Don't make characters that make 12 yo suckers horny.

I played a female cow in WoW for over a year and I didn't get 1 sex related whisper. Female taurens are awesome.

I have two female characters in WoW a night elf, and a human and I have 4 in guild wars.  So as a man i think that there is nothing wrong with playing the other sex.  I also have never been hit on at all in any game.  I think people are to busy playing the game to do that.

Let the people play that which they wish. They pay as much as you, and these are called Role Playing games after all for a reason. If its ok for you to play an Orc or an Elf, then its ok for them to play a female or male. In both cases you are playing something that you are not. Anyone who is opposed to allowing another player to play the game in the way that they choose to is a very selfish and intolerant person, because this is not something that directly effects anyone else in the game but themselves.
