It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Having to search multiple fan sites for info is a pain.

Its starting to piss me off. We need an official forum. I’m tired of looking at 4 fan sites for dev statements, or information from other players..

Most of the info is conflicting, and the sites are not well put together or easy to navigate.

I just want one. official forums like normal.

EDIT: Example:

Here’s a good example.

On the press release on the official site, it says that the Server names have been published on http://www.vanguardsoh.com/, and its not.... There is a news that says goto an affiliate site with a link...a link to 10 different Fan sites...upon clicking any one of them. its not very clear where the list is... If its even there, in whatever format they choose to list them.

How is that helpful?

I can live without them.  All the infos i need are in patch notes that appear on the launchpad.

And official boards are a whining fest anyways.

Not always. Official boards form one solid community and contains one source for feedback from the developers.

The "Whining fest" only really occurs when developer feedback is nonexistent, or, ignores the player base. The attitudes on official forums are a direct creation of the attitudes that the developers, and PR cultivate. There are many games that do not have "Whining fests" on official boards. Its all in how you create the tone as the PR manager.

Using affiliate sites removes the responsibility to interact, and talk with your customers.

The system they have adopted is a one way communication. Developers tell you what it is, with no room for feedback.

That and it lowers accessibility to game information.

I feel, IMO, that it is there duty to provide official forums to paying customers, for support of there service.

    The Commandments of Online Worlds

    1. Thou shalt not mistake online worlds for games, for they encompass far more; nor shalt thou forget that play is noble, and game is no epithet.
    2. Thou shalt not disrespect thy players, nor treat them as mere database entries or subscriptions, but rather as people, for thy power is granted you by them.
    3. Thou shalt not remove fun or implement unfun for the sake of longer subscriber longevity, nor shalt thou consider thy sort of fun to be the only sort of fun to be had, for many and mysterious are the ways of enjoyment.
    4. Thou shalt not blindly do what has been done before, but rather shalt know why all is as it is, and how it could be different.
    5. Thou shalt create and follow rules that bind thyself as well as the players, for thou art of the community, not above it.
    6. Thou shalt not make thy world a place for players to do real harm unto one another, or for thee to do harm unto players.
    7. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s userbase, but instead be true to thine own userbase, for thou hast made them a garden, and thy job is cultivation.
    8. Thou shalt make every activity within thy world one that stands alone enjoyably; if it be a game, then thou shouldst make it a fun game on its own merits; if it be other, then thou shouldst make it true to itself. Thy world doth not make boring things into enjoyable things merely because it is thy world.
    9. There shalt be no number nine.
    10. Honor thy ancestors, for they solved most of thy design problems.

The community should be in game in my openion. Guilds / chunk / city type conversations. If you need to get information the official site will be updated. Devs are assigned to the official affiliate sites, they post there regularly. They troll the sites for any posts that are  pertenint to what they are doing. Any feedback they will see. I don't HAVE to feel special. I'd rather a community be run by the people than the devs.

The ONLY thing I would like to have is a DEV tracker on main site that tracks dev interaction on the affiliates. That way atleast dev posts are gathered, i don't necessarily care about other peoples posts for the most part on the official forums

While that’s great. I think your misinterpreting my use of "Community". The info i refer to as lacking, or hard to find is the information generated by the community on the forums, not the in game one (There is a difference). Like tutorials, discussions, player discoveries ETC..As for the devs, i still dislike having to go to 10 different sites to find developer comments on issues, and discussions.

On a side note, i feel this is a way of the producers and makers of this game to brush off responsibilities to its customer base.

I concur.... this decision dismayed me a bit.... I like official forums...doesn't stop fan sites from providing a useful function, but it would be nice to have something along the lines of what Blizzard or even NC Soft provides their customers.

Guides/what's uber, what's not and dev post will appear as news or on forums on affiliate sites.

    Patch notes on the launchpad.

Community can be builded on affiliate sites.

Everything I have said in this post. And single, official forums, as well as one place for all the info. And to have the same level of services that I receive from every other game.

To not have to look at 10 sites for dev posts.

To not have 10 communities for one game.

I see it both ways, right now, I despise having to search several forums looking for info that  I'm trying to find. What's going to happen, is that some sites will die, and some will the ones that people adopt as the "official" forums. The funky part for me is crafting. I remember the old UO days with Tradespot, and with the regionalism of crafting in Vanguard, I'm betting that something like Tradespot comes back. It'd be nice to know who in Kojan or Qalia I can go to for a set of that style armor if I"m in Thestra.

Anyhow, UO moved off official forums to Stratics, and that turned out to be a pretty good move for 'em, only thing is that Stratics was a fan site early on that caught, and was one of the ones that "made it". So most UO forum types were there anyhow. I just wish that Vanguard would have kept up official forums for a few months, and let the release communities begin to form, and THEN move off the official boards. I'd hate to be the guy who buys tomorrow, and then doesnt know the fan sites to go look for.

OK, for anyone that thinks this system is working, please help me out here.

I have what I believe to be a valid and important question.  I have searched the official site and silky venom and have not found an answer.  I also have no idea whatsoever as to where to look for one.  If you think the current community system works, you can use it to help me out.

    The question is:

Where do I get the instruction manual for Vanguard having purchased it digitally?  I have never bought a game that did not come with a manual.  Games that I have bought digitally usually pointed me to a web or a PDF version of the paper copy.

I think quite a few people that buy the game digitally will have this question.  It could be something obvious I missed in the download instructions.  But my point is that I can't find an answer to this.  And I don't even know where to look.

So if you have an answer, point me to where I could have found it.

I am waiting to see how this works out. There are many pros and cons on not having a centralized community. (Less modaration for one in some of the sites  ).  I think if the this thing doesnt work out there gonna be a SOE board created. Best thing to do right now is fish around during the next months and see which sites forum is best for you.

Currently, none. And each site has different info on them. Like i said, to get the full picture, and development progress (As in issues worked on, Dev chats about solutions ETC)..I don’t want to have to be required to look at 10 sites.

There is only one reason to not have an official forums. Money. And they dont want to hear peoples opinions about parts of there game.

I feel however, that is part of the services that i pay for, and I’m currently going to be paying the same rate for a game, that provides less customer support, and feedback than any other game. They have pawned that responsibility off onto the fans, and I feel that that is a cop out.

In this system they have adopted, information and feedback go one way. At us. And that happens to only be the case if your watching the correct site.

IMO, if they don’t wish to provide the same level of services that other games provide as a standard, they need to lower the subscription price by 1$.
