Quests, yes. Good ones, no. The Game is primarily PVP.
1 Race to Rule Them All! Unless you count skin color.
You get to lvl 20 and then PVP........ That's pretty much it. Not a whole lot of weapon choices, not a whole lot of armor choices, not a whole lot of anything really.
The game is fun for about a week, imho. But the same opinion is held by most of their "3million" accounts.
- There is only one playable race: human. There are three (at the moment) ethnic groups, depending on the campaign: caucasian (Prophecies), asian (Factions), african (Nightfall).
- Guild Wars is basically an action RPG that defines its own genre. It's fully instanced, and lacks all the traits (mounts, trade skills, jumping around) common to most MMORPGs. There are 10 professions (you can choose two) and 1500+ different skills to choose from when making your build, which is limited to 8 skills; if you consider that you can change skills and attributes at any time for no cost, a large part of the fun is designing and optimizing your own style. The PvE part of the game sports an involving plot, where you can "solo" by taking henchmen/heroes or party with other players. The PvP side is by all means awesome, and its replay value is virtually infinite - you'll be playing it a lot.
Overall, GW is a gem and I suggest you read at reviews on the web or articles on the official site before you purchase. You will NOT be getting a MMORPG like WoW or any other.
- The three chapters ("regular" Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall) are in fact shades of the same game. They are set in different continents of the GW universe, have different storylines (although loosely related), sport many common traits and some unique features tied to each campaign.
With Prophecies, you'll get the original game and all of GW's "base" features: that includes the 6 core classes, the standard arenas, a good campaign with a smooth tutorial. Factions was advertised as a PvP-oriented chapter: it adds the Assassin and Ritualist classes, faction related combat areas, a short storyline with a very steep curve and fast leveling. Nightfall is more PvE-oriented, adds fully customizable AI heroes and is the latest chapter, so most people are packed there.
Personally I'd suggest Nightfall, although my favourite is Prophecies. But if you really like one you'll be getting the others too, so don't let it bother you.
Sure is!
I would have to recommend Nightfall to begin with too, then if you like that, go buy propechies.
I've spent around 1000 hours playing it, and I don't even PvP.
My fav things about GW(i've probably said this a few hundred times)
1) No raiding.
2) No uber items -> PvP defined by skill, not items.
3) No grinding. Max level doesn't take that long to reach, but you still continue to learn new spells/skills.

GW is a really good game I played this game when it was first released.....was very enjoyable now I quit after playing for 14months straight ....like all games gets boring
Theres 2 expansions now
GW Factions --- average
GW Nightfall --- don't know didn't buy it
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Let me point out something important: Guild Wars does not demand your time in any way, instead you choose to invest the amount of time you wish. It's not likely to get you addicted, although I've been playing for 19 months straight myself.
Guild Wars is a great game. But essentially it is an online RPG with an awesome PvP system that is actually balanced and based on skill rather than uber equips. The story mode will entertain you for about as long as a single player game will, but the PvP mode is an awesome diversion from any other game you may play in the future.
Basically Guild Wars is my back-up game of choice. If I am over grinding for the day I just go into PvP and play around for a bit.
