ok so i wanna play vanguard uber badly, but i only got a 1.7 gighertz processor. my questions are. ( i suck with comps btw :P)
1. anyway i could get by in the game?
2. if i must purchase how do i know which model fits in my motherboard
3. how much it gonna cost me for the cheapest one if again i must purchase.
ive heard ppl talk bout overclock No idea wth this means) but maybe it could help me here? i dont know and i need advice and im going crazy PLZ ADVICE!!!!
kkthxvm-PanchoVia, starting a revolution at a town near you.
First of all, If you dont even now what kind of motherboard you have, how are we going to help you?
If you want help, we need the make and model of the MB.. but ill tell you one thing - If you are not that well versed in computers - upgrading yourself will be a big mistake.
You would be better off going to a computer shope (not a chain store) and bringing your system in for a check, and talk to them about upgrading.
You will probably have to upgrade the MB, the CPU AND the memory.. so expect to shell out at least 400-500 bucks...
I have AMD 64+ 1.9 GhZ, I think thats below the minimum even, but my vid card is (was) the best, GeForce 7950GX2. VSoH runs fairly smoothly on high settings, so im guessing the CPU minimum req was balanced to the vidcard. You would need an average CPU and average vidcard, or a weaker cpu but a strong vidcard to compensate.
If you upgrade your CPU (youd probly have to buy a new MoBo and 1-2 gigs of RAM too like that dude above me told u) but you have an onboard vidcard, youd be unpleasantly surprised that u spent 400-500 $ on upgrades, 50$ on the game and u cannot run it.
Furthermore, after spending another 250-300$ on the new vidcard, youd be surprised that when pushing the switch on your PC it wouldnt start, all due to weak powersupply (strong vidcards require strong PSs)
but it all depends on your current system. Post your Mobo, CPU, RAM and Vidcard info here. If you dont know how to get it press START button, select RUN menu, in the window type DXDIAG and push OK. From that new window you can copy info and paste here. Then we might help u better.

and how the hell do i see what mother board i got and wth is overclocking, cuz my friends say to screw buying a new one and overclock my current one.
Well, in order to get a compatible CPU we need to know what CPU is compatible to your mobo... damn, now u confused me! We need to know what mobo u have, becuase there are different brands of CPUs (ok, just 2 major common ones) that are NOT compatible with each other, which means they have different types of MoBos. And a lot of same brand CPUs have different "structure" so they also require different mobo's. So if u buy a new CPU, but have an old MoBo, you wont be bale to use that CPU at all, it wouldnt even fit into the mobo (thank god for the extra pins and idiot-proof system).
Read my post above, we need your basic hardware info. Who knows, maybe your system is good enough to run VSoH and it may require only a paintjob.

Got 2 Comps myself, 1 has a 3.2 Intel Processor, 6800 Nvidia(256 Ram) board, 2 gigs of Ram, and a 250 gig HD, and works well, 2nd comp is a 1.7GHZ intel, 512 Megs of RDRAM, and a 80 Gig HD, with a MMX440 vid card, can't get Vanguard to work on the second comp at all
thanks for making me want to cry lol, i really dont want to buy new hardware since after buying vg ill be broke myself and have to do nasty chores.... AHHH BAD MEMORIES OF SOFT WET dOG FECIES...... lets not go thier. anyways, any chance of this system working with that cpu and gc?
If it does work, I'll be very surprised, but, never hurts to try, but, imagine the lag issues you'll encounter will make ur game play expierence very dreadful. Sorry to stomp all over your hopes
well i dont have problems turning terraint and stuff down, pixel shader as well and extras off, ie shadows clouds glare reflection i dont care bout that i care bout performance. anyways anymore adivce? or input bout my system? lol
even though its 1.7 hertz? lol NOO I WANT TO PLAy, i and i jsut bribed my frined with my psp for his video card which is think is a geforece 6600 shit, so no possible way to play with my dumb processor?
ok, well i dont got money at all atm for a new comps which would run 700 bucks min. just clarifying, thier would be no possible way to get by with my current processor?
If you have already made a deal for the graphics card you might as well try to play Vanguard. If you can get a pre order box from a local software place you pay a little up front. For me it was 5 bucks. That will get you in for the 3 days before launch and you can decide if you want to buy it. Use those 3 days to play with settings and see how you like it.
Bad news:
You will get lag. Not so bad out in the wild but pretty bad in towns depending on size. Grouping will add more lag and this is a group based game. You will most likely need to turn the music off for better performance. There is a .ini file tweek stickied atop the General Forums here that will help quite a bit on performance. If you do get in game best bet is to set graphics to "Highest Performance" right off the bat (what you don't know wont hurt you ).
Good News:
You get to play Vanguard. I can run the game with this setup:
AMD XP 2000+ (1.66 GHz)
786MB RAM
ATI 9600XT (128 MB)
I run about 10-15 FPS which does suck but it's playable. I have weighed getting a new comp now or upgrading this one until Vista comes out and prices drop.
Edit: I run "High Performance" settings so the game lookes pretty sweet even with the bad FPS.

Its hard to say realy. The official FAQ doesnt seem to have a minimum requirements because the game is not released yet, so the last minimum spec Ive seen (as far as im remember) mentioned a p4 (or AMD equivalent) 2.4 minimum system. While a p4 CPU with lower speed MAY still allow u to play, a celeron is essencialy a lower level SPU then a P4. It may miss some key component instructions that would not allow u to run the game. This is speculation since the minimum req. may be lowered at release or may be sufficient enough as it is right now, but I doubt it.
Just checked the official FAQ and it doesnt specificaly say P4 is required so you HAVE a good chance it may be sufficient to play
Will it work....sure. Will it work well....not likely. You are going to have crappy FPS if you lucky, unplayable FPS more then likely. Your system is in terms of CPUs...old. There are a plethora of games that your cpu will run perfectly, unfortunately, VG isnt one of them. It all comes down to how much you really want to play THIS game compared to others. Just buying a really nice graphics card ($400+ Radeon 1950 xt) would make a world of difference assuming your cpu could run it (power supply as mentioned earlier).
It's all just guess work.... some games may put more on a graphics card, some may put more strain on memory (and if you don't have enough it just starts thrashing your hard drive). And from an economic perspective, a development company has a HUGE financial motivation to lower the requirements, both the minimum and the recommended.
This is why most of these big games have some kind of trial. Personally, I'm not buying the game till I can download the engine, play it for an hour, and see if it will run on my machine. It's a subscription-based game, so they should just let us see it run and not have to guess or figure out if it will run. They are not going to loose a dime with a free engine trial.... unless the game doesn't work on a machine, in which case it's the player who would have been jipped.
YAY its all good for me now, my best friend decided to give me his pentium 4 from his comp :P just gotta see if its compatible with my motherboard.... how can i check which model my mobo* is and which model will fit into my mobo???? also any advice for switching out my processors? hese givng me a pentium 4 2.8 gigahetz processor... made me so happy. well he was gonna give me graphics card but ITS WORSE THAN MINE OMG lol and mins crap.. still plz advize on how ot swwitch processors and check model # and compatibility.

still cant find mother board name
sorry m8, your system just dont cut it. Id recommend buying a new computer altogether (minus monitor if u wanna save up)..
