Diablo MMORPG is coming!

There is a new Interview with the Blizzard Vice President

http://www.empireonline.com/interviews_and_events/interview.asp?IID=620

How do you imagine you'll be able to top Warcraft in the future?

When we announce our next MMORPG it’s not going to be another WoW - we’re not a company that tends to tread the same ground. It’ll be something innovative and new that really brings entertainment to another level.

So i guess we can see a Diablo MMO in the Future!

Id say more likely starcraft as they said they wont take a decade to release a new starcraft.. and by 2008 it would be a decade since the 1998 release of Starcraft.

Besides and Diablo MMO and a Warcraft MMO would be too similar.

i don't see diablo being the MMO, Starcraft would be more to the point.  But exactly how would they make these games out to be MMOS is what i am wondering, so actually i don't think any blizzard game they have is gonna be it

I think that a starcraft mmo would do alot better than a than a diablo mmo.

A diablo mmo would get kindof boring and there wouldnt be much of a point.

Well if you have ever seen the Starcraft ghost screens then it might give you an image of what it could be, only better. Starcraft will have the graphic like Ghost (probably better)  and the world will be massive with all the units, wepaons, etc.
  • MunkiMunki Member CommonPosts: 2,128
If you think about it. They just scraped SC:Ghost

Perhaps their re-using those resources for something else? *cough*

I posted this interview in another discussion, but it will most likely be a MMORTS or something, it won't be WoD, it's be Starcraft for sure.

I think Starcraft fans want a RTS not a mmorpg and i think thats the same for warcraft fans too. I see them doing a starcraft rts in future tbh.

I see diablo more fitting for a mmorpg because it's what people who played that are used to.

Though i hope they come up with a new franchise tbh, something original

Perhaps Starcraft as an MMOFPS? Sounds like it could have great potential...

Well he said something new, innovative and not another WoW. My money is on Starcraft, which I'm really hoping for.

    If it's blizzard, i'm buying.

I still remember playing the demo version of Warcraft I and saying, OMG this game rocks... and bought the full game based on the demo.

    Warcraft 2, again, jaw dropping.

Around the time of warcraft 3, i had no computer, so naff...

But i did play diablo 1 (if a little late) and diablo 2, my my diablo 2, you have stolen a chunk of my life, but thats ok as it was all fun.

And W.o.W.... best game ever? Probably.

Can't wait for blizzard to release games now!

    C'mon blizzard, lets get Sci-Fi already !

You said you don't tread the same ground, ... sci fi is a'callin.

It'd be funny if their new game caused everyone to cancel their WoW account.  Anyway I'd doubt it would be a Diablo MMORPG though. StarCraft would make more sense.

No way. Sci-fi games have more possibility for originality. Fantasy is getting worn out.

But anyways, I would love to see a SC MMORTS. There is only 3 MMORTS that I know of right now, and they're all kind of bad, although Ballerium is really cool, it always lacks funding, and will never be complete. Ahh the trials of being an indie dev.

    MMORTS FTW!

Read it more closely. It says 'we're not a company that tends to tread the same ground.' Meaning that they aren't going to make another game based on one of there old ones anymore.

Blizzard has done a very good job of learning from the mistakes of others and I imagine that not competing with oneself like AC1/AC2 and EQ1/EQ2 did is on their lessons list as well. Consequently I think it would be something with a significantly different play style than WoW.

And I suppose warcraft fans wanted an RTS too, but Blizzard went for the mmo and that worked out for them.

I expect the next starcraft will have a persistant-world MMORTS built in as an option for people who've bought the single-player game. And it'll be huge, because there hasn't been a good persistant-world MMORTS since Boneyards closed. There was the Shattered Galaxy group as well as 10six, but they were so plagued with technical issues and poor visibility that they never went anywhere.

I think an MMOFPS based on Starcraft is the most likely MMO possibility on an existing license. They could be using what was leftover from Ghost for all we know.

If you read both interviews neither place do they say they will put out a SC game before a decade... only that they hope it won't go over a decade, which is going to be hard to do now...

Also, no where have they announced anything or even given a hint to the fact they are working on a video game at all. All we know is that they scrapped SC:Ghost.

of course, I can't find the article, but about 3 months ago, before the BC, Blizzard announced they were working on NO OTHER titles besides WoW. So don't get your hopes up too much, you have a long time to wait considering they are putting more effort into their movie deals, Card games and Board Games then actually making PC games.

If you look at their hiring pages in the past year, they're either making another game, or for some reason, WoW needs a lot of new technical development people... highly doubted the latter of the two.

Think that concluding that there is coming a Diablo MMORPG is a bit to soon. Actually, we don't know if there is coming a MMO at all. I mean, it can be just an example.

    current game:
    world of warcraft.
    how original

    Oh god no.

I want Starcraft 2 to be rts. Not MMORTS, not MMORPG and not MMOFPS. I want Starcraft 2 to be as big as SC was on the E-sports scene. The only way that gonna happen, is if it requires a lot of skill, and the only it's gonna require skills, is if it's RTS.

I say the next Blizzard game is Universe of Diablocraft, and it will feature RvR battles with Second Life.
