Last I heard M$ had no interest in portable consoles.. Then again that was awhile back. However I really doubt we will be seeing a 'Mini xbox'.

This time it would only weigh 10 lbs

Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...

Considering the origonal Xbox was the size of a breez block there handheld version will be the size of a brick.

Well, the Zune/Xune is going to be able to play games by July 2008, so that could mean anything from little cellphone/card games to a complete redesign of the device to have a touch screen or more buttons.  I wouldn't call it an XBOX mini, but this is probably what you heard about.

Yeah, I guess Microsoft should better try to make sth ot of Zune first. It doesn't seem to be a real threat to iPod.

XBox 360's gonna get crushed by Wii & PS3 sooner or later ...

And didn't they try to make a mobile???

Man, those MS-dudes sure like competition :)

By the time it hits the market, they will probably call it the "MPhone" ... ;)

I've never heard of anything called Xbox Mini - where does that info come from?! Sounds logic though...

Well, that will never happen actully, You can let the money talk in this. PS3 doesn't even make money per PS3 it sales, only in the games. Xbox is making money on everthing, Xbox live, Games, and Console. The Wii is totally differnt class  but since they are so hard to get, they arn't even competion yet. The 360 is to strong for the PS3, and at a lot better price. If you are going to buy a PS3 you might aswell get a XPS Dell P.C. with the best specs or a Mac.

Surprisingly, I could see MS getting into the portable market with their PocketPC os. Bearing this in mind, imagine a PPC video game system. -If- it where to happen, it would/should be able to do more than the Tapwave (the Palm portable that failed).

    Some ideas for MS:

    - Make a portable Xbox system, using what PPC has to offer. Use 6-8 buttons

    - Do NOT mod the system. Instead, make the official games unable to be copied (maybe by using a proprietary design/unusual card). Don't use CD/DVD. Also allow for recordable memory on said card.

    - Provide an outlet, like an SD card slot, for video/homebrew gaming, unlike with the XBox/360, where you have to mod the system.

To compete with the PSP? What about the DS, have we forgotten about it? I really don't think Nintendo can be touched on the handheld market. Their 6 some year old Gameboy Advance sold more units last  year than the PSP did. The DS sold much more than both. And with Wii sales rapidly climbing towards the 360(the PS3 is already in the dirt behind) I think Nintendo is making a nice comeback.

Consdiering there are  MS IPs on DS (Mechassualt, Age of Empires and others) and VIva Pinata as well as a few others have been announced for release this year, anyone thinking MS would release a portable to compete with the DS doesn't know much about the portable game market. MS even stated at DICE that they are excited with some upcoming releases of their's on the DS that have yet to be announced.

While this is true in the US, the JP GBA had a couple of hiccups, thanks to the Wonderswan/GP/etc market. The only reason Nintendo's dominant around here is because the Wonderswan never came over, and the only portables that have come over either sucked, had little 3rd party support, or didn't have good skill in getting at Gamestop/EB/etc (Yes, the PSP sucks, even in homebrew). The Wii I know why it is succeeding so well, but the GBA/DS can be taken with a good, cheap, brand name.

Honestly I don't think microsoft is going to get into the portable gaming business anytime soon.  Portable gaming in the US is not as big as it is overseas.  And the US market is microsoft's primary target market.  No way.

If I wanted to play games on a computer, I'd use my computer. But if I want to play fun and enjoyable console games, I'll play the Wii. As it stands, my current computer is specced out to run like a next gen console (360-PS3) But the big difference is, I can do more fun things in my computer than the PS3

Somehow I dought that Sony invested millions into developing cell processing and blue ray technology so that they could manufacture a ps3 and not make money.  Not every game that is released on the ps3 is made by sony and therefore Sony doesn't make a bunch of money off the games.  I'm not exactly sure how it works for software developers when they make a game for a console.  I know they have to purchase the developemental tools off of Sony or MS, but if they have to pay any kind of royalty to Sony for accually releasing a game for the PS3 is beyond my knowledge, however, seeing as Sony doesn't publish or distribute all games made for the PS3 I can't imagine that they charge a software company anything outside of the dev. kit to make the game.

And the Wii s already taking over as the #1 console.  You can't beat the price tag.  It's not always about the amount of money you make off each individual unit, but the numbers of units you can place in households around the world, and Nintendo is doing increadibly well in that regard.

I also wouldn't put the Wii in an entirely different class, it is a next gen console just like the 360 and PS3 even if it doesn't have the same graphical power, and one of the contributing factors to it's being hard to get is that it's selling.  It's in demand and most in demand products are hard to come by.

500-600 for a PS3 or a few grand for an xps.  I'll get right on that.

i think they should call it the "Xboy".
  • LydonLydon Member UncommonPosts: 2,938
I think Microsoft could do it. They have a way of keeping things secret.

I'm a 360 fanboy, can't stand the PS3. Wii is coo because it's not made by Sony

    I haven't heard of that.

If something like that was coming out it'd be all over xbox 360 fanboy.
