Something strange is happening on Vanguard forums

RattrapRattrap Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,599

I dont know if you follow Vanguard forums , but the amount of flaming is getting out proportion , even for flame infested battlegrounds of mmorpg.com

People are being banned, treads locked, whole treads disapearing.

The situation is quite rotten.

I personally loved the concept of Vanguard , and eagerly awaited it. But when i noticed my 1gig ram will not be enough to play this game. I decided to post about it , and warn people that might have the same spec and think of purchasing the game.

Not to warn them - not to buy the game. But to know they will need to throw in 1 gig of extra ram.

And for this I was insulted, attacked and flamed. By numerous posters that see every post that doesnt praise Vanguard in every possible way - a blasphemy. I was even attacked on diferent forums. Like EVE forum ...etc

To be honest - i uninstaled Vanguard from HD.

Because i dont intend to share game with such horrible community.

Still what is happening on VG forums is scary. It is like a pack of rabid dogs turning every topic into namecalling. Supported by

vanboys reporting "abuses" by people they lured into reacting offensively...

I thought the Vanguard forums where shut down?  Are you talking about one of the fansite forums for Vanguard?  Which one?  I gave up on Vanguard too, but it wasn't because of the community.  It was simply a matter performance on my system, and the game being rushed to launch way too early.

I am talking about mmorpg.com vanguard forum

Uhm, we know... VERY few people have anything against Vanguard as a game. Sure its a step back in evolution, and second gen like Anarchy Online and EVE are way more complex and mature... But the main reason people just dismiss it entirelly is the Vanguard community. I seriously hope they all stay in vanguard because such a childish, immature bunch of fanatic game believer that treat it like their own personal Jihad has never been seen before. They are immautre, irrational, aggressive and just abusive against anyone commenting on any minor flaw there might be, that most normal people just dismiss the whole game as junk in pure defence.

Best thing you can do is just dont talk about the game at all. Go for the people. Tell the people they are behaving like idiots, because the biggest problem Vanguard has is its community. Its the same immature WoW crowd we saw a few years ago, now they just think they are hardcore....

Actually, a lot of people around here didn't like the game much when they played it. Including me.

    Exactly my thoughts mate.

have that with every game, if you went in to say Ryzom and made some sort of criticism there might be vocal fanboys and that. I don't think the forum members are really much to go by especially when you look at WoW forum members and play the game and they are like two different types of people. But 2gb is nuts, I probably won't be getting a computer like that for a few years. At least then there will be more games around then as well as Vista being a mem hog to justify the upgrade of computer to that spec.

  • MaeEyeMaeEye Member UncommonPosts: 1,107
Well first off man, this is MMORPG.com.  When do you ever have people that respect what you say, only few do.

I plan on getting Vanguard, I enjoy it.  But I will agree with you, it's a system hog.  I don't know much about ram and whatnot, but I guess 2 gig ram would be what this game needs if you only have 1 gig.  Although I don't feel like upgrading.

Like I said though man, this is mmorpg.com...if you want good responses or a mature player base forum, go to Silkyvenom.com or another fan site or something.  honestly, I never take anyone serious at mmorpg.com, unless of course they want to be taken serious.

    Best of luck.

p.s. Let me tell you  a story.  About a year ago, February 2006, I joined a pre-release guild of Vanguard.  I thought, hey if I'm going to play this game, I might as well find a good guild.  And good they were.  But man, let me tell you something.  About around summer time, when the whole beta 3 stuff started....they all turned into nuts.  Honestly!  Like, I remember one member (a hardcore rper) would post, teasingly, about how the Devs. don't care about the people blah blah, and I should get into beta.  About a week of that, this guy would start making posts and post in other people's post about how he hates the developers in this game, because HE should be chosen for Beta and this is just a blah blah blah.  I got sick of it.  Everyone started to change and became so unpatient.  All the good members left around August when the leader was nowhere to be seen.  Then we had Drama after drama after drama.  I would post somehting about UO and whatnot, then I would get FLAMMED!  flammed by my own guild "Oh, UO is stupid boring and should just die."  that kind of stuff.  Around September, I hung up my hat.  Just left the guild.  I didn't leave a goodbye note or anything.  It started off so good, the best guild ever, then they turned into rappid vanbois and it was ugly.  I used to call myself a vanboi, hardcore man.  But after that, I know that I'm not.  I will critisize the game if I have to, but I do still enjoy it.  there is no way I am a "fanboi" of this game.  So that's my story and why I won't be involved with a guild in Vanguard, my old guild ruined it.

So where's the MMO that's a step forward in evolution? I've been thinking I'd give Vanguard a shot, but if there's a real "next gen" game out there, I'd rather try that instead. I'm about as jaded as they come, plus I've only got a gig of RAM.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

  • amiinoamiino Member Posts: 7

you can't judge a game community by the few people throwing dog tards at each other on a forum, in the end those people will make a fraction of the total people actually playing the games.

Instead pop some popcorns and enjoy the ignorance of people flaming each other, I mean how retarded do you have to be in RL to actually get pissed off over a game?

I'm not a vanguard fanboy, nor am I a WoWTool, I'm just a guy looking for some fun from time to time playing games online, what I do look forward to in Vanguard is a bit more of a challange than I had in WoW, I liked the old school corpse runs I had back in '99 when I played EQ but thats just me.

Some people like WoW others like Vanguard no need to throw shit at each other on a forum.

Ummmm Windows VISTA releases on the 30th of this month I think requirements for anything but home basic which basically means you get none of the advantages for vista requires 1 gig of RAM to perform halfway decent for decent performance 2 GIGS is required. For anything over BASIC 2 gigs is required and  4 GIGS is for optimum performance. There are 4 versions :) Oh by the way a gig of ram is 100 dollars or less!

The amount of flaming is pretty stupid. But when is it ever reasonable here on the MMORPG.com forums

Anyway yeah the RAM i just bought another GIG from crusial.com and it will be at my doorstep friday once i get out of school. Cant wait

I have decided not to buy  Vanguard for same reason. It has the most immature community and the irony is that they are the one who call WOW player base the most immature. At Vanguard board its a general belief that whoever says anything negative about Vanguard is WOW fanboy. Lol.. i am glad i won't be part of this community. I am looking forward to Fallen Earth and Tabula Rasa.

I have 1 gig of RAM and Im using an ATI Radeon x700 video card. That's an old card and even when it was new it wasnt anything fancy.

I run Vanguard at 30 FPS in towns, let alone outside towns and that's without any of these ini tweaks everyone is talking about.

Stop spreading this misinformation about what is required to run the game, you arent even CLOSE, and that's why you get flamed. Im not trying to justify flaming since it really does no good, but neither does what you are doing.

EDIT: Rapid 1, are you on crack? Vista runs fine with 512 unless you want to use Aero, then you just need an OK video card and a gig.

I am sure he went out of his way to lie about it just so you guys wouldn't have more people playing Vanguard.

If you ran VG with 1 gig of ram on that card at 30 FPS you had every single video option turned off.

I played with 2 gig and a 6900 ultra w/current drivers and it almost NEVER hit 30fps with minimal options. Once I upgrade my pc and added 2 8800 GTXs in SLI it ran great even with all options turned on.

  • NineSpineNineSpine Member Posts: 54

I was running it on the balanced setting. I didnt change anything. Before the last day or two of beta, i had to run it on 'High performance" to get like 15 fpS but after the last couple of patches, it ran great.

Hmm. I'm sure I'm going to be flamed as a vanboi or whatever the heck else for saying this in turn from the people complaining about being flamed by the vanbois, BUT, you're seriously not going to play a game because of the vocal minority? Give me a break.

It's known that forum posters are the vocal minority in games. This community on MMORPG.com, as screwed up as it is, does NOT make up the majority of people playing video games and especially where you have so many subscribers as MMORPGs. So 200 asshats are posting some BS and flaming. You really think that represents the hundreds of thousands to buy the game? If so, I am not sad for losing you in the community.

    owned.

Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.

I remember these exact same arguments and posts when WoW was coming out of Beta.

    When will people learn?

Not really owned.. Just another arrogant twat from the vanguard community proving OP:s point. Its not a minority. So far not a sane person with normal logic has been able to open his mouth and be pro vanguard at the same time. There has been noone to prove us wrong in this. But hey, glad the worst people from WoW has found a new home. Now stay there...

Rat, I think the people that are flaming you thought 2 gigs of ram was the minimum to play MMO's on.... I know I do.

Dude..I like your style. Look me up in VG if you seek a hardcore casual guild that doesn't take itself too seriously. Yes..I said..hardcore/casual..means...we play dedicated...but remember it's just a game and my kid that just got hurt is more important.

We suck less than the rest sir..

You must be one of those same people that post in the WoW forums who think "l2p" and "qft" is a valid reply.

The link between the the two forums is looking more and more valid. I play with reasonable WoW folks and EQ2 folks and even some VG folks but VG fans are practically rabid. I truly don't understand why they have to put everyone down to try and prop up this game.

I was just thinking about the thread asking whether Vanguard is a sandbox game. Now, I'd love for it to be, but from everything I know about, it's not even close. Yet in trying to sell it, you've got all these people saying that it is.

I understand that people like the game. Nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't make one a fanboy, or vanboi, or whatever... You could say, it's a great game, but sorry, it's a class-based game all about gaining levels, not a sandbox. Rather than trying to sell it as whatever anyone happens to be looking for, like a coalition of used car salesmen.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

alright, a bit of backround info. i will not get VG, for several reasons that are irrelevent, moving on.

although i can sense your frustration with their community, and i have nothing against most of your posts, what was the point of this one? what did you hope to prove by posting a topic that in essence calls a certain community ____ and not much else?

If the Original post had some merit towards another aspect of this topic, then i could see your goal more clearly, but as it is, this just seems like a flame post without a point?

is it to hit them on their noses? say "bad" and hope they'll realize the error of their ways?

or to warn the rest of the MMOG community of a potentially hostile group of people?

or to incite more rabid responses from them, towards you?
