Well, there are ppl wiling to play far worse games than Vanguard, so it's not dead IMO. Also subscriptions number suggest that WoW is best PvE.
  • RinicRinic Member Posts: 715
FFXI always has had the most challenging PvE. Hands down.
  • zensaberzensaber Member UncommonPosts: 787
i liked Final Fantasy XI's PVE much better then i did WoW's. It's just i could never get into FFXI because of the huge grid, as in it taking forever to level up versus world of warcrafts to easy to level up

VG is dead? can you elaborate on that a bit more? from what i hear and from what i'm going to play VG is very much alive and although not finalized with the polish (rushed due to funding) it will be "complete" within the next few months. FFXI is the best? yea...riiiiighttt... maybe a few years ago...I dont think it's called trolling when you speak the truth so hear goes:

I've played FFXI since the beginning of may '04, i'm a 75paladin and i've done the endgame scene, the god armor, the HNM camping, the sky farming etc... FFXI has sucked over half a year from me in play time (yes, play time and no i dont bazaar). Now i get on FFXI every few days, i turn it on excited and ready to play...but then it hits me, i sit in jeuno and lfg or talk to people on my FL or LS, waste some money at a local casino and just sit there, nothing exciting just sit there. FFXI was at its prime when the full content of the Rise of the Zilart (1st expansion) was released, the other expansions were good, but not great and didn't really make the game much more fun. The noob end of the game is severly lacking and if you start playing now your most likely going to get bored with being "gimp" and having no low level friends and move on. Just yesterday i did a /sea all in carbuncle server around 7pm, 1600 people were found, then i did a /sea all 75...550 level 75's....yeah and me and my friend were leveling some of our 40's, not to mention all the other people with 75's who were. 75 is the new level 50 and the game is just bland anymore. the PVP system is terrible and just plane boring unless your with a group of friends. Going to specified zones at specified times and paying for PVP just isn't really a good system. Brenner was very fun (your probably thinking wtf is brenner) it was that game where you had to attack your opponents goals while the npc drones protected it and it was like a pvp game, it was very fun and there was always a mass of people wanting to play...3 months later no one played it anymore and still dosen't.

in simple terms...FF may have been the king, but the crown is lost, WoW might have picked up the crown (i hate WoW but the crowd of 12 year old kids that think its "fun and challenging"  are hoarding to the game by masses 7mil players now blah)

and to address my first point, if you think VG is dead why dont you check out all the beta players posts and comments, the game is getting a lot of praise.

FFXI is great because it is very difficult and rewarding. No game has normal experience mobs that can wipe a party if not everyone works together. The difficulty is just unmatched.

The problems FFXI has is the grouping, which is good and bad at the same time. You face the usual prooblems with cookie cutter or burn parties and it can get frustrating for a non standard class.

Endgame is very frustrating and time intensive, then again, the little impact gear has (unless you get a full set of great gear) makes it easier not to go on Dynamis or God runs, there are good alternatives. Those who played know that 2 more DEX do not make that much of an impact.

I still think however that FFXI is the MMORPG with the deepest story and immersion that has been done so far.

Highly doubtful they will ever give out trials. Played FFXI for almost 4 years and they had never given out free trials.

FFXI is an AMAZING game! Ive played it for 3.5 years now , 75 war, 75 nin , 75 thf, 63 whm, 62 mnk, and 62 smn, lol ive played it quite a bit ,and i love it! It has soo much content ,always a decent challenge, and always something to do. however ive been looking for something new. Ive followed vanguard for about a year now, and have been playing the beta for a lil over a week.... I absolutely love it so far! my only complaint is the low FPS i get in towns.

I think vanguard's PvE and the game in a whole is going to be a great success! I think i may have finally found something to replace my beloved FFXI

Disapointing, guess I wont be playing this game then. I refuse to buy a game without playing it first.

They don't do trials because 14 days or whatever is not enough time to make a decision about FFXI.

It takes a lot of time commitment to get anywhere. If they offered a trial everyone would try and then cry when they can't do anything.

Not to mention, RMT would abuse the trial so hard.

I hear ya on that.  Made many mistakes, so I require a trial before I play a mmo.

Not to mention, RMT would abuse the trial so hard. Yeah most people won't be able to find a group in 14 days, if you really want to know what FFXI is like just look at a screen shot for 8 straight hours.  The game is horrid, but the fanbois will tell you the game doesn't start until the later levels.  So all you have to do to really experience the "magic" of the game is put up with a couple months of mind numbing gaming (if you can even call it gaming)  The worst control scheme I have ever experienced and all the elitist pigs that run this flaming pile of  ****.

Yeah fanboi to the rescue!  The game isn't hard, I never said that.  I'm just giving possible new players the correct description of the game.  I'm trying to help people, don't hate on me because I'm right.

    Problem is, you aren't right.

You say we tell people the "game doesn't begin until later on".

Every time I talk shit about WoW I get one response. "The game doesn't start until 60!"

Which is the same thing as this, except in FFXI you start having fun after 30 or so.

If your not having fun from level 1. The game isnt worth playing imo.

In WoW I had fun from level 1, but it ended at level 60.

We aren't talking about any other game here.  I don't care aboout WoW.

in FFXI, Dynamis has more content then all your little instances...  truth is, the second gen mmops are far and away better then the third gen, now first and second gen mmos, realy lack polish... but not FFXI. nothing in FFXI is missing or out of place... this is an area where WoW does well but most people just dont understand that there are games that are far better then WoW.

IMO at the end of it all, it all boils down to how important you feel your time is worth.

If you dont care about your investment in a game, then WoW is great, if you want your time to mean something then wow...

    well

    as we say in FFXI

     Vanguard is dead  because

    It does nothing new

It does nothing better then FFXI

Its combat system is mind less, it tries to steal FFXI SC system but it “flails”. It has a crafting system that borrows ideas from FFXI (example the idea of crafting equipment) but “flails” to deliver anything that is thought provoking… It “flails” because instead of trying to pick up the ball, and provide an immersive world along with a plot or story that draws the player in, it goes the EQ route and just 100% ignores it.

Presentation and polish is so important in these games. Because you cant challenge players with skill driven mechanics, you need to present the game in a way that really sucks the player in, FFXI does this better then most and Vanguard does it the worst.

As FFXI was the evolution of EQ, I thought Vanguard could be that… after months and months of beta testing … Vanguard “flails” because it sucks…

    Vanguard is cookie cutter

Vanguard uses a very powerful graphic engine, but produces the mostly ugly fake looking character models I have ever seen… bottom line it cant even come close to the art direction that FFXI has, people in vanguard bitch that they want more realism in there mmos lol, guess what we’ve had it for years.

People complain that they want their mmos to be harder, check. FFXI is the most rewarding and also most time consuming mmos on the market…

Truth is, most of the mmo players are not interested in a challenging mmos. Sure they will come here and try to sound like an elitist (IE anarchyart, anger etc) but at the end of the day, they’ll quit and be right back in WoW…

Most of the people that come here and bash ffxi do so because there into pvp… guess what, the conflict system in ffxi … its better then your vanguard rule set servers….

JP devs > NA devs… sorry.

Oh yeah, not going to comment on your “beta praise” cause it’s a joke. I have games for my old snes that have better animations then vanguard

Geez...you're such a hater.  Not sure why you (and the OP) have to slam Vanguard to sing the praises of FF XI.  I've never played FF so I can't comment on it's difficulty, depth and "hard-coreness". I worry that perhaps you confuse slow, painful leveling with a fun, immersive gaming experience.

I have played a bit of the Vanguard beta though... the diplomacy system was quite different (so much for nothing innovative) it improved on many aspects of previous MMO's (as I would expect), graphically was a bit weak (I have an older computer, I'm sure an upgrade will resolve that problem) and did in fact have an immersive storyline... i was helping Orcs drive off invading raiders, Humans battle undead, dark elves escape slavery and earn their blood right to dominate...etc etc etc....

Best in Pve... hmm, not really an honor I look for in my game, makes me want to avoid FFXI.  Decent PvE with great PvP is more my goal, but I do appreciate being to explore a large, immersive game world,

As for the JP Dev>NA Dev comment,  I agree...those damn New Agers are a really poor at programming games...
