1 hours, 25 hours?!

I would ask this on the Silky Venom forum, but it appears to be down.

I am downloading the updates for the pre-order client. It got to 1 hour remaining, then jumped to 25 hours remaining.

From there it has counted down the time normally (no sudden jumps, the seconds ticking as usual).

Does anyone know what is going on?!

I installed the beta client from the pre-order DVD, and then started patching it.

When it first go going, it told me I had 5 hours or so. 4 hours later, it jumped up to 25 hours.

Why is that? It's now down to 22 hours.

Tachgb is right, it is a 17gb game so you should check your Vanguard folder.  I dont know how many gb's is on the preorder disk since I had the client already.  You can always exit out of the patcher and start it again at the same point.  While patching to my client I came home to an est. time of 626 hours .  I restarted and was just fine.

Just not worth my time anymore.

I braved it and exited the patcher. I was very reluctant to do this because back when I used to play SWG (talkign about 2 years ago, right up to NGE), if you cancelled a download it started again from scratch.

Oh, and the DVD was 38gb big, so I'm guessing most of the game was on there, probably patched up to the time that they shipping them to the stores.

Edit:: Vanguard folder is 13gb, so god knows what the rest of the DVD had on it!

Hmm, well,  I don't really know where I stand now - It has finally finished rescanning and is now telling me 9 hours... oh, now 8... well, between 8 and 10 basically.

Hopefully it'll be done if I leave it overnight, but I have this horrible suspicion I'll still be waiting well past 6pm (GMT - when the UK can start the game).

Of course it doesn't help that my shitty ISP has a pipe to the US like a hair so I only get 60kb/s on a 10mb line!

The preorder DVD is just under 4gb in compressed form. You're right, the beta client on that DVD is old, gb's of new content was added throughout beta, that is what you'll be downloading. At least you're almost there. :)

I installed my VG with the pre order dvd and i guarantee you that it is not 38 gigs. It is about 7 gigs and took me a little over a day to patch.

I also have a 3 mb dsl line, should give you an idea to about how long it should take.

It does that for some reason. I assume it first guesses it only needs to download new files. Then it realizes that the files from the CD are all going to have to be replaced, too. Same experience here - 8 hrs to "finish", then it jumped to 25+ sometime in the 7th hour.

Look at it this way, the game is still 19 hours from release, so at least you're not missing out on anything for a good portion of that time.

Yes, you are correct. I read the size wrong. It's 3.83gb, not 38.3gb :)
