    Called that one.  :)  Hopefully they'll put all of my dissapointments to rest.  Hooray for Funcom wanting to put out a polished game.

    ohmigosh!  they postponed to polish the game, total WoW-copykats!  ( ' ;

    Seroiusly though, considering how it looks so far, it's good to hear they have the time and the resources to postpone long enough to iron things out further.  Plus, there's your new window for beta.

    Hurray!

    I hate the fact that it's delayed... but we can only hope it's because they need to put more work into it, and not because coffee was spilled on the last 5 months worth of work :)

    Retired from WoW
    Rebellion - 60 Warlock || Kalaa - 60 Warrior
    Littlerebel - 60 Hunter || Albie - 60 Shaman
    Played: Erm, a lot more.

    I haven't had a gaming computer since last May so I am all for the delay. I would like to say this is not only because it gives me more time to get myself a really good gaming pc but also because the game will be more polished, but the only MMORPG that was ever released polished was WoW. All others were no better for the delays.

    Though I have faith in Funcom.

    We can only hope they don't follow the Blizzard pattern and delay the release multiple times like BC was....

    So that makes the game 1 year delayed.
    I was going to wait for AOC, but since it's delayed again, i'll buy Vanguard.

    damn!  well . . . looks like it's time to fire WoW back up, and get in on this LOTR beta this weekend . . . shoot, maybe back to ffxi?  who knows!

    This is good news!

    This is how I see it.

    It's going to take a few months to shake out Windows Vista and Direct X 10. Currently there are not many cheap video cards out there that can do pixel shading 3.0 and Direct X compatible.

    Plus Vista isn't out full swing yet, and most likely full of bugness goodness, and most likely SP 1 will be out then.

    This means, It's most likely better to upgrade you rig in sept when back to school sales kick in.

    Plus, The added benifit of game polish. Right before the hollidays where you can goof off and live in the gameworld.

    I rather have a delay, then having to rush it because lack of funding to release!

    How can this be good news?

    I am bummed.

    How can you all call yourselves AoC fans when we can't get near this game.

    Funcom, YOU TEASE!

    Just delay the XBox platform. I want to play this game now!

    I must say when a customer base is as patient  and hail a delay as wonderful news as this one is, you truly must have one hell of a game in the works.

    AoC is so freaking awesome!  So it is obviously a bummer that the game has a new release date, but for me I was planning around that time anyway because I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of AoC on the Xbox 360.  The only question for me is, how long into 2008 am I going to have to wait for it to finally reach the 360?  Well, there is no doubt in my mind that the final version will be more polished and balanced so that is good.

    W00t!!

    I CALLED IT!!!

    I knew when they anounced the first push-back (it was for Q3 2007) that they would then push it further back to Q4 (i posted that here on this board).

    Let's face it, summer is a bad time to release one of these games.  I want to be at the beach and partying during the summer!!  I don't want to get addicted to a new mmorpg and waste all the sunlight of the summer.  Better for that to happen in the winter, no?

    October isn't winter, at least not the last time I checked.

    But in any case, statistically, summer is the second best season to release a game, very close to being tied with winter. It seems like people don't agree with you about wasting summer daytime

    Well, if it releases Oct., I won't jump in til around Nov.  I'm not gonna buy the hype, even though it looks perfect.  I'm gonna wait for the established gaming sites to weigh in with their reviews first.

    I'm very gun shy, being a DnL victim and all.

    Well, as disapointing as it is to see it delayed, It gives me more time to play all the upcoming big titles, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Crackdown, so on and so on.. Hopefully around October there'll be a dead season for new releases and i'll be able to delve into AoC guilt free.

    I think it sucks that I won't be playing AoC this summer. However, I think this is very positive. I'm so damn tired of companies pushing out half finished games to an eager public. I think we are starting to see a trend amoung some of the other studios that want to take the time and get it right the first time. I can only applaud it, and say it is about damn time!

    Maybe it's finally sinking in that gamers are getting tired of having to wait 6 months before we get the game as it was intended to be at release. With a game of this complexity, I say take all the time you need. If I can log in on release date, and not have to worry about tons of bugs, and a huge nerf bat swing after I've already gotten 3/4 of the way to the level cap, it will be worth it.

    We will see how bad that is going to hurt Vanguard. People are getting sick of the release to get the rest of the cash needed to finish the product SoE crap.

    I think that this is good news.

    Developers are not publishing half ready game. They have learned something from the Anarchy Online and its' catastrophic launch.

    Don't release until it is ready.

    I guess Funcom learn something from the AO release after all. Its a good thing they have the nerves to pay the extra costs it will take to release a finished and at least fairly polished product. 6 months to release and no open beta was kinda obvious it was gone be delayed.
  • TinybinaTinybina Member Posts: 2,130

    Horrible news, Warhammers name only will insure that this game hardly gets anyone type of population.

    AOC's only chance to compete with Warhammer was to make sure they launched serveral months before or after it, but it seems Funcom didn't learn from the last time it tried to go agianst a big name MMORPG.

    Funcom pulled this crap before during one of its expansions that not only was bug riddled but was total crap and a complete opposite of what Anarchy Online was all about. Add that with the fact that SWG was released within the same 45 day period and you have a total failure by Funcom. There population plummeted which soon led them down the track of having to offer the game for free...

    I just don't know what these guys were thinking here(as usual), even if they do have a pretty decent game it would have made more since to avoid going agianst another big name tittle... They should have hired more people and put in more hours to try to avoid the Juggernaught that will be WAR.

    I hope for AOC's sake that WAR doesnt get released within 4 months of it. If it does they better hope that it lays a egg and sucks, which I doubt.

     While some of you will say 'they don't want to have another AO launch' thats fine and all. But just because they pushed it back doesn't mean they still won't have one. Remember most of the reason for the bad launch was due to the game engine, and they are still using THAT SAME ENGINE but a so called updated version of it....

     If I was them I would have enlisted more people to help out rather then try to go up agianst WOW2(Warhammer).

    I agree that, timing of AoC release is most likely going to be bad (unless Warhammer is also delayed). However, I hope that you are not software project manager. If you are, you should read The Mythical Man-Month: Essays on Software Engineering (by Fred Brooks). It explains one big basic phenom in the software projects pretty well: "Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later".

    Where did you get information that they are using same engine?

    Market timing is a tricky game... since most MMOs are delayed some, good chance WAR will be delayed as well.

    Strong-vs-weak release is not a tricky game. It's definite. If you suck and are not polished out of the gate, the mountain is oh so steep. (D&L, DDO)... Why do so many companies think like "we will come out with X, and just fix it thru time" .... NOTE: I'm not saying 'tweak' or 'add-content'... that's fine. But performance so bad it's unplayable? "crashing out of game" like I did 1-week before vanguard was set to release? ( I'm not going to buy VG now until I get a trial that works on my rig without crashing... and I'm pretty sure most other customers in the world think the same way).

    So get it right, or stay in your room and keep working. Come out too early with bugs and you will waste years of investment...
