It would be better if either of you could (without breaking the NDA) explain WHY it sucks. Otherwise we have no way of deciding if you are just bashing it for fun or if you have good reason for your opinion.
Actually the game feels nothing like LOTR....does feel like your in the world at all....it feels more like a i'm playing a less than stellar version of WoW....and I also hated WoW.
Yeah man when I play any game it feels like WoW... and I hated it to... so I guess anything that has any similarity to WoW will suck from now on for me which sucks because that's a lot of games.... sigh... Ah

and It's true what the OP said... if you don't know what the hell a hobbit is don't touch it but even if you've just enjoyed the lotro movies and didn't read the books it's worth a try.
I would suggest that everyone gives it a try if they can. The game has strengths and weaknesses just like every single other game ever released. I think the OP just holds some of the weaknesses as more important, but that's just his opinion. There are a bunch of people that really love the game. See if you can get in for the stress test this weekend if you aren't in beta now and give the game a try.
I am a LOTR fan of the books and movies and find this MMORPG a vanilla version of WOW. Picture every aspect of WOW just downsized. Between LOTR and Vanguard, this year is starting to look bleak. If you get into the stress test this weekend you will not have enough time to see the shortcomings.
Okay I have to post. Simply enough, this game is pretty much NOTHING like WoW. At all. Sorry to ruin all you trolls fun, but it's not. It's like WoW in that it's an MMO, and you have lots of quests. Besides that, it's nothing like WoW. And come on, if anything, WoW is like LOTRO, simply because 90% of the things WoW uses builds upon lore and stories that came straight out of the lotr series (Read - Orcs)

Simply the fact to mention any knowledge not publicly know, or even mentioning that one is in beta but can't say anything, is already a breach of NDA......

Give one example on how this is not like WoW. This is through and through a WoW clone. Oh, except WoW is better, and I'm no WoW fan.

Do you have the ability to make custom songs or dances in WoW? From what I know you can't. The trait system works in a completely different way, with most of your traits coming from completing quests, using a skill so often, wearing a type of armor for a period of time, etc. The graphics are a lot better, and it has a completely different story. Oh, and no gay minotaurs. What else? A much better crafting system, and a seamless world.
I'm not in the beta nor do I know anyone in it and I know all this.
Currently: Playing EVE Online Previous: FFXI, Dragonrealms, sad little stint in WOWland. Awaiting: Fallen Earth, Hero''s Journey, Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan.
LotRO is similar to WoW with it's interface and even some of the questing but it's storyline heavy gameplay really sets it apart. The time slicing mechanism allows for some great quests. One of the early ones for man has you defending your town from invading bandits. If you are successful you are able to drive them back but the damage to the town and people of the town doesn't go back to normal. The town is burned and quests begin to center on helping to rebuild the town. WoW's quests are not focused on storyline very much and the world never changes. It is similar to Guild Wars in this way I guess. I've only played the first part of Guild Wars though so I don't know.
The achievement system and trait system are other ways to improve and customize your character through storyline based goals. Everything is focused around the storyline. I've played both games and I wouldn't consider them the same. I think if you've only played the newbie levels and area you might be mislead into thinking it is a WoW clone.

First of all WoW was a EQ1 clone, just a lot more polished is all. Now with LoTRO you have MvP, the trait system, more intricate and detailed crafting system, graphics are beautiful and artistic side are much more realistic than WOW, no play dough hair ala EQII and Vanguard thank God. There are more but I just might be under a NDA and all that.
