For those of you not playing WoW, let me tell ya something.
It's getting worse. I can't tell you how draining it is overseeing children in 5 man groups. I'm telling you it's freaking killing me. I understand that there are young people out there that can conduct themselves in a mature manner.
And I admit, I like to goof off quite a bit. But when I'm running an instance that should of been done 45 mins ago and I have to get to work in two hours......the wipes and what not are starting to drive me bat shit crazy.
For those of you who've played WoW, you know, the 5 man content isn't incredibly difficult. Clear a room. Pull mobs from last room into the cleared room. Risnse repeat.
However, more and more I have to contend with these snotty brats who can't take even the slightest advice or criticism without flying off the handle with there 133t speak. Or they'll just say 'fuck you' and hearth out wasting nearly half a day of wipes.
Now I could be wrong in my characterzation of these people as children. For all I know they could be my age. For all I know Age of Conan, despite the M rating, will have the same types of personalities.
Oh well....
One can dream, no?

It is probably foolish to hope for the same kind of thing from AoC, but who knows, maybe they'll surprise me.
As for fewer kids, well, to be honest I'd be surprised if there were any fewer. Mommy and daddy bought them WoW and paid for the subscription with their credit card, there's no reason they won't do the same for AoC despite the rating. Especially since American parents have generally shown a complete refusal to take responsibility for the things they buy their kids. Besides, if the only things "mature" about Conan are a few spectacular decapitations, it won't be any less appropriate than what their tykes watch on Saturday morning cartoons nowadays.
First off, I agree with you whole-heartly on the first part of your post.
As far as parents buying AND maintaining a sub for their 11 year olds......
Yes, there will be crap parents who will do this. As a matter of fact, I think these people that maintain subs for their 11 year olds for WoW (some of these people I've had to contend with HAVE to quite literally that young) are awful parents.
It is one thing to allow your kids to play a single player Hello Kitty game. Quite another to allow them to interact with thousands of, what are suposed to be, strange adults over the internet. If I were a parent, my kids wouldn't even have their own computer. Are you kidding me??! When I was growing up, we had to do chores up the ying-yang for my folks to get us our Atari (oh boy am I dating myself here). Forget about them maintaing a monthly sub for something.
In any case, yes there are crap parents out there that will buy their brats anything. The good news for the AoC community is that the M rating will lessen the amount of them in our game.
Well there will always be kids in a mature, adult oriented game. There are the dimwit parents out there that spoil their kids and feed them their credit cards, not caring about what kind of game it is or if it'll be age-friendly.
Compared to World of Warcraft's maturity level, this game will blow it out of the water. With the new combat mechanics technology, storyline, and overall difficulty, this sounds like something a child won't want to gear, unlike WoW. Call them easy mode, call this experienced-gameplay.
What we need is a game with no shitty elves and humanoid females with barbie bodies. If all characters were unattractive to jerk off to the game would not attract many of the unwanted players.

QFT. I think if Blizzard didn't try to make one side look ultra appealing and the other the complete opposite, it'd be a mixed maturity level on both sides, and there wouldn't be the huge problem of younger audiences biasing for one side.
That's a very bitter thing to say, and personally I think you're only saying it because you're annoyed at the amount of children you seem to be forced to play with.
I don't see anything wrong with children playing WoW, if i were a kid i'd definately be bugging my parents to get me it. Just because we played on spectrums and had no internet, doesn't mean that's what todays kids should be doing. In-fact, when i was 14 i was out at my local park with friends getting drunk, and acting like a chav (google it).
I'd much prefer if my kids (if i had any) to be playing inside with their friends, and now-a-days it's on a PC playing something like WoW, whereas when i was a kid it was playing Mario-Kart on a Nintendo. I think you need to "get with the times".
Again, i would have loved to play WoW as a kid, and if you don't want to play with the children have you ever thought about... ya know... not doing so? Perhaps i'm lucky, as i play WoW with friends and i rarely come across those annoying little kids you mention, but then i don't do instances with random people.
My advise to you would be to find a mature Guild and do instances and such with them, instead of using LFG.
Edit; Forgot to mention that i'm playing on the Horde... hmm, could it really be that kids tend to choose Alliance? I find that hard to believe, as i know if i were a kid i'd pick some evil looking character, not some "cute" little gnome.

The thing is, 14 is perfectly eligible and presumed to be mature for WoW. I was also getting wasted at my friends' house when I was 14, until I got WoW, which cut that right in half. I've met a lot of 13-14yr olds playing WoW and most of them are cool enough, some are asshats, but then again you get the 30 or 40yr olds who are asshats, too.
Imo, it's the 8-12 yr olds who you gotta avoid. The ones who are old enough to play the game but not old enough to know what to do, how to talk in general, or get themselves into an instance. It's usually these struggling young mishaps who find out how to request for groups from their older brother and then ruin a good portion of a PUGs time as they realize the are playing with a pre-pubescent, immature little brat.
Here, the OPs argument comes in valid. From my experience, kids these days sit at home. I haven't seen any running around with their friends, and I spend about 2-3 hours in the afternoon lying and reading in front of my window. In fact, it is very rarely that I see a kid outside unless it is school dismissal time or with their parents. So, if they stay at home, they either watch TV or play video games, and that is the source of your problems. Assuming the drugs and bad-assery start at gr7 or 13 (again, this depends where you live at...), you have a lot of kids without much to do.
I don't think an M-rated game will solve your problem. In fact, I think it will do little. I must've been 11 or 12 when GTA: LC came out, and I spent a lot of time playing it. The thing is, parents are really lenient these days, and also a good deal of them don't believe that desensitizing crap that video games purportedly have. Can anyone tell me if their parents refused to let them play a game because it was too violent or contained sexual content? Mine didn't, and neither did a good deal of my friends.
Honestly, I think ratings are gay in earnest. Half of the people don't care. The other half's kids will find a way to get around it anyhow. Little stickers do nothing, you can't prevent it, especially when the majority of sales clerks are teens. I agree with something I read eariler (was it in this thread?): What's the point of altering the perception of the world to save a few innocent minds? I bet about 90% of the kids at my high school have personally experienced what would be rated "R" or "M" in a game or movie, be it sex, drugs, or (to a much lesser extent), violence.
Back to your problem: Find a Guild, or don't stress. I keep it chill, even when someone's really fuckin annoying me.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Chances are, they'll build a PvE keep on a PvE server so that they could never be touched by other players.
If so, at least I won't have to deal with them personally, our guild is joining an RP dedicated PvP server upon launch.

Which is precisely why I would like to see AoC go to total nudity. Wait until mom walks by the computer and sees her precious little monster looking at a naked woman, full frontal. He will be off that game so fast it will make his head spin. Mom may live with junior decapitating people, and the blood, and the gore, but nudity for her precious, no way....
I would also like to see a warning on the game box "Gameplay includes full frontal female nudity". Now you have a game that mature adults can play without the teeny boppers. Teenagers should never be considered adults, even pets are more mature and better trained. No exceptions....
A mature behaviour is not totaly related with a specific age.I for one been in WoW and I was lucky enough to get in avery mature guild.
And I include there some 16' or 15' persons. As for AoC the M wil not garantuee a more mature player base imho.
As some poster said above they have choped heads on the morning breakfast cartoons nowdays. In the end is all up to the person to try to orient and find people who suit their peronality/gameplay style.
What I really hope is the AOC complexity will make little pricks go away since will not be smooth enough for them.If the game will have half of skill style AO have I will be happy.
In the end I am more then sure AOC will not appeal as much as WoW does to the "l33tness" kind of crowd.

I'm not certain it does, there are many examples of games that have both RP and PvP servers but none with the two rulesets combined, in fact I'm pretty sure the only game that has RP-PvP designated servers is WoW.
And have you played on any of them? They are generally treated like just another PvP server.

RP PvP servers are just about everywhere, at least in the older games. The newer ones... not so much.
A couple people I know of in fact are of the opinion that its the only kind of server worth playing.

I also hope AoC eventually finds a good way to make sure underagers don't get in lol. (though as discussed 100s of times.. its doubted)
Though it's still good Vanguard still feels like EverQuest 2.5 or something. From what I've seen so far it looks like it beats about anything EQ2 will ever be or become.
