WoW copied the ideas for their models from the tabletop warhammer game which has been around for a few decades now.

    Problem solved!

The way I've seen it is WoW's tones are much more vibrant and cartoony compared to the Warhammer tones.  While War's can be considered cartoony in a sense, it's not on WoW's level.  Its tones are much more realistic compared to the brightness of WoW.  That's what has always stood out the most to me.

There's other things too, polygon count, detail, but mainly it's the tone that's the most defining.

I've never seen much of a similarity in WAR and WoW's graphics myself personally.  In my eyes, they look like two entirely different screenshots.  Other than the fact that there's orcs and dwarfs and whatnot, but that's an entirely different arguement that most already know the answer to.

I have to agree with you.  I always thought people saying they were exactly alike was kind of weird.  To me, the textures in World of Warcraft are just to simplistic and boring.  The screenies of orcs in Warhammer really show off how it isn't exactly like World of Warcraft.  On a secondary note, the only similar races that WAR and WoW share are goblins.  Dwarves, humans, and elves don't really count because in most games they are universally depicted.  The orcs in WAR I think look far more badass than the ones in WoW but that's just personal opinion.

All in all, I guess it comes down to personal opinion.  Some people see the graphic similiarities to be the same while others don't.  I only care about game play myself.  If the game is fun and runs well then I am happy.  I quit WoW basically because it was getting boring, and I knew the expansion would be more of the same stuff only in a different setting.  Here's to hoping WAR's a good game

A few decades (30+ years)? Try since 1983. Just over two decades.

I played WoW, and i admitt that i was addicted... but when i researched and found war, then i was really, like this : ... the graphics are nice for being a mmo, i really like the lighting they add , and the environment looks amazing.. the waterfalls made me cry, because some people say that wow has better graphics than WAR? They should research a bit more. I have also noticed how people that play WoW are really protective about the game... i remember me being one of those people, they probably dont realize how mistaken they are sometimes.

i can't wait to see chaos and empire screenshots because 1. i am excited to see them 2. people will relize (well atleast i hope) that the game isn't like wow because orcs and dwarfs look alike in alot of things....chaos,empire,high elves, and dark elves also play a part in the game they have only released info/screens about orcs and dwarfs (well now they have empire and chaos info) so please don't say stuff until the game comes out

    thanks for reading

Say all you want to about WaR looking like WoW, there are similarities and differences of course.   Just watch the Alpha PvP movie from the Warhammer website.    Even though its alpha there is still something that the polishing of beta cant cover up.   The combat looks absolutely horrible.   I love Mythic but lets face it, its not what it used to be.    This video drove that point home.

I agree, as long as its dark I can live with it.

Its alpha, ALPHA!!!!  Give it time, the game isn't due out for a couple months at least.  You can improve lots of animations by then.

Yes I know its alpha (it even says it up in the post)  and yes you are correct it will get better.   Warhammer was always dark (yet semi-cartoony) but the character models look like something from an 8 year olds console game.   If they want to be a competitor in the global mmo market like WoW or EQ2 they might have a problem.    Cartoony has been done to death.   Tone down the cartoons and add more realistic character models.    Anyone who played the tabletop game can tell you that Dark would always describe the setting before the word cartoony.

I'm surprised that you played the TT game and you don't think that the character models look like the miniatures.  I think they look almost exactly like the miniatures.  There are some new screens floating around now, and the one of the black orc looks exactly like the black orcs from the black orc regiment in the TT game.

I played WoW and I thought "8-year old", but when I look at WAR I think "Warhammer."  I don't follow the 8-year old part, because the character models look like they came directly out of one of the Rulebooks or like they walked off the Table.
