New to FFXI

Heya

I bought FFXI today with the two Expansions, Rise of the Zilart and Chains of Promathia.

It's currently patching (3 hours left), I don't know what to do in this time. :(

I also have few questions about the game:

1. Stats & Skill: Do I get stat/skill points to get new skills or increase the stats?

2. I heard that it's hard to get a group to play with, is it so?

3. Do I need to pay additional 1€/2$ for each Add-on?

4. How long it takes to get max. lvl?

5. What server you recommend to start on?(my languages: English, German and Russian)

6. How many online player are online in average on each server?

That's all.

Thanks!

    1. Stats & Skill: Do I get stat/skill points to get new skills or increase the stats? No.

    2. I heard that it's hard to get a group to play with, is it so? Not really.

    3. Do I need to pay additional 1€/2$ for each Add-on?  No. You pay the 13 bucks for 1 character slot. Each additional character slot is an extra 1 dollar.

    4. How long it takes to get max. lvl? If you know what you're doing a month or two. If you're brand new? Probably close to a year.

    5. What server you recommend to start on?(my languages: English, German and Russian) You can't pick servers, it randomly assigns you to one.

    6. How many online player are online in average on each server?  On average? Between 2500 and 4000. All day. Never drops below that because all time zones are on the same servers. So when the North Americans are going to sleep, the Japanese players are getting home from work and logging on. And then the europeans have their own time. So the servers are always filled.

    That's all.

    Thanks!

    Thank you for the answer!

The registration was a bit confusing so I thought that each Add-on costs additionaly.

I picked Elvaan Warrior, took me a while to figure out the control. (Compact)

Well...my Nickname is Xauron if somebody want to add me feel free and do it.

I don't know. Where can I see it?

!!Edit: I'm on the Leviathan world. Is there a way to minimize the game without  shutting it down? When I press ALt +TAB an error appears on the PlayOnline Viewer and it says that I left the Fullscreen and closes the game.

Sadly, the only way to be able to alt+tab out of the game is to download a windower which lets you play FFXI in windowed  mode. This is technically against the ToA, so you can get suspended for using it since SE consider it a illegal 3rd party tool. Which kinda makes sense since there are lots of plugins for it that show party members TP, distance to target etc. The chance of getting suspended/banned is pretty small unless you tell everyone you meet that youre using it.

At least this is the only way I know of.

    Some things to add.

    1.  Actually the answer is yes when you hit Level 75.  Your experience points can be converted into merit points which are used to upgrade stats and learn new skills.

    2.  It can be difficult to get a group depending on what job you play.  Mages and tanks tend to get spots faster than melee, which is quite common in most games.

    3.  Yes $1.00 to add a character, but remember 1 character has access to all jobs (advanced jobs must be quested) so its kinda like having more than one character, you are just limited to one race.  There are pluses and minuses to this feature.  The main benefit of having one character is that you don't have to repeat quests, which would be the case if you rerolled a new character.

    4.  Since you're new it will take some time but it depends on how ambitious you are and what kind of friends you find along the way.  Group play is key, if you find the right people you can easily get to 75 within a few months.

    5.  World passes allow you to choose which server you would like to play on.  If you have no preference you will be sent to a random server.

Very misleading, there is no way on earth you can level to 75 in 2 or 3 months if you are actually playing the whole game.Farming alone will take up 2 months of your time to get to 75.There is tons of quests, wich alot of them take a long time to do,the same goes for many many missions.Limit break quests AF armour quests, the list is endless.Your reason for playing should be about ENJOYING the game not to be worrying about how fast you can hit end game level. The designers have put a ton of content into  this game and it only makes sense that you get your money's worth out of it by enjoying ALL the content.

Getting a party is VERY time consuming because 1/not everyone has exact same play times every day and that includes your friends list.

2 In real life many many things come up that would never allow even a static group to accomplish things EVERYDAY.

I think in deciding on wich server you may want to check out the online AUCTION HOUSE website.I can't remember the name of the site something like FFXIAH.com .This will show you wich servers have the worst [broken] economies in the game.Pick a server with the lowest economy.

My personal  suggestion to anyone joining this game now is , talk to different people and try  getting into a LS or better yet a static party.

For some reason [i have no idea why] ALOT of the JPN player base refuses to play with english players. Unless your jpn this will limit your chances of a party /LS by at least half.It wasn't like this when i first started playing, almost every party i was in was JPN,so i don't know what happened along the way to change this.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Well it is possible to get to 75 in a few months, however that is if you have done you SJ quest, Genkai and have alots of Gil.  So for instance, if a level 75 THFwanted to get SAM to 75 he could do it in a couple of months.  But yes, there is no way you could get from 1-75 as a new player in a month or 2. ^^

Personally, when my friend started the game it only took him 2-3 months to hit 75.... but what you need is actually to research on how the game works and stuff so you spend more time playing and less time figuring out...

When the latest expansion just came out, seasoned players took a week, give or take, to hit 75 with new jobs.

this game is hard to get a group since there are a lot less peeps playing and when you do get a group its either god offul or it lasts for 30 mins. There is NO way to solo at all, but you cold 2 box a healer DPS to get though the game heh
