Looking For a New MMO... Suggestions Appreciated

Hey there...

Im a launch veteran of SWG and I LOVED the way that game played until the NGE.. now I find myself looking at some of these new games and wanting to try a new one..

Here are the games I have tried already...

Matrix Online - Great until they stopped caring about it and SOE took over and took out all the live events

Everquest 2 - Really fun just not my cup of tea.

So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good game that is very populated and fun.. that plays somewhat like Star Wars Galaxies (If it doesnt thats fine too)

So please post your suggestions here.

Thanks really appreciate it.

***Qualities I Like In a Game***

  • Player Housing System (Star Wars Galaxies has a great one)
  • Sci-Fi themed (Not a HUGE fan of dragons and magic and stuff)
  • Complex Skill System
  • Large Variety of Character Customization
  • I tend to be a big PvE guy, but at the same time I like for there to always be PvP going on.
  • Sandbox style of game.
  • Group Play
  • Not a big quest fan
  • Never done "raiding" so idk

Well, personally I've never played SWG so I'm not too sure what was really enjoyable about it.

But here are some games I have played before that I really enjoyed...

Guild Wars: a very popular game. No monthly fee. A player can take up two professions. PvP very well balanced. Entirely instanced though, execept for towns where people can congregate to look for a team. But from my experience with it, it is a very solid game. I would encourage you to give it a try if you haven't already.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes: I've never played this but from what I've heard, its turning out to be a pretty fun game. It launches on January 30th so you won't have to wait long. My friends, who were in the beta, tell me this is sort of like everquest, but I don't know too much about that because as I mentioned before, I've never played it.

If you can tell me what you liked and hated about SWG or TMO or everquest II then I can point you too some other games that you could look into, either based on what I've read or from my own or my friend's experience.

What do you look for in a MMORPG? Do you enjoy PVE, PVP, crafting etc... ? Do you like quests? Do you like raiding? Do you like solo or group content?

If you are an EX SWG player the best place for you is EVE online or Ryzom

They are complex, skil based games, and sand boxes, like SWG pre CU

PS. Vanguard have more similarities with EQ than with SWG. Vanguard have a good crafting, like EQ2 , housing like SWG have and a sandbox world, but not like the other sad boxes, were you can go were you want freely, you must grind levels to go to other places. The rest is like EQ1, raids, grouping,quest,quest,quest...

I actually am looking for a good mmo right now too. I haven't played many, have been more of a console fan. I really liked WoW and i like straightforward games. EvE seems like the opposite game for me but im willing to try new things, the skill system looks great. In fact I'm downloading EvE right now, wish me luck. :)

    5) eve is a pvp game mostly, but new pve content is added a lot (more missions, cosmos stuff, exploration)

    6) yep

    7) yep

    8) don't have to do a single mission at all if you don't want to

    9) there is no raiding (wow-type raiding that is)

I recommend the Saga of Ryzom at first place, but EVE online is certainly worth watching as well.

Permission to hijack this topic, if I may.

I am also looking for a new MMORPG to play. I am a (relative) newbie to MMORPGs, having played only WoW on and off for a couple of months. I loved the PvE aspect of the game and mostly went through the world solo, grouping with people here and there along the way. However (and this happened to me several times), I found myself being bored with my character and starting a new one every time I got to approximately level 20. Now that I think about it, I think that the gameplay became "more of the same" after a while - the items got better, the monsters got more health and mana, but the combination of buttons that I used to kill nearly every monster was pretty much the same. A different combination of buttons (with a new character of a new class) kept me entertained for another 20 levels, but then I once more got bored.

Is there any MMORPG out there at all that sounds like a good fit for me - with content that a player can solo, availability of light to moderate grouping, and fresh and exciting challenges to keep players interested? I'm aware that it's quite an ask, but I figured that if anyone knows, it's the people on this forum.
