Not quite as sandbox as they lead me to believe

Quite a lot of steps to go thru just to start crafting or be a diplomat.  I feel like I'm being railroaded toward a goal like in WoW.  Not getting the "Here's your tools... go make yourself useful in the world" feeling I got way back in SWG.  Anyone else feeling this?

Well, quite honestly.  I did expect more of an SWG feel seeing that this game was recommended by so many SWG vets on there boards.

I'm a SWG vet. While this game isn't SWG, it is still fun to play.

Wookie Master Commando/Creature Handler named Azla (been so long I really dont remember my server but the guild I was in was called Nexus) I left after the CU.

    anyway...time to kill.

If you weren't in here complaining that they made you do a tutorial on the tools, you'd be in here complaining that you don't know how to use the tools, or that they should include a tutorial, or whatever.

Well using that logic... I guess i should complain that the game is in English as well huh?

That's almost a direct quote from what I read in the SWG boards.  Only replace "Age of Conan" with "Vanguard".

It takes a lot of money and time, but we're working on it.

Looks good in theory.  Not alot of info on where your at development wise.

Nah, I'm sure you'd just always have something to complain about.

If you're looking for the pre-cu SWG feel, then you'll always wish one piece was more like it.

Tell me this, would you rather have them do a small tutorial on how to use the tools and benches the first time through, or would you rather have to figure it all out for yourself?

I bet you'd ask someone else to explain it to you, which is the same damn thing.

I think I'd rather read it in the manual then figure it out from there.  Because then I only have to learn it once.   Not everytime I roll up a new character.

A lot of beta testers complained about this as well.  The first 10 levels are pretty much linear in nature.  After that, there are a few branches you can take, but most people looking for sandbox get turned away right form the start.

How far along did you get in the diplomacy/craft line?

Just finished the starter line quests and am able to do regular crafting and diplomatic errends.  I just dread the thought of having to do them again for my next character... and the next ...etc.

What I was trying to get across on my original post was.  I know how it works.... stop making me do the tutorial.

In diplomacy you can skip the tutorial. I think you may be able to in crafting as well. Make sure you read carefully as it will tell you how to do so.

Dont give up on the crafting , once you get the hang of it , it's easy and you can make pretty good coin by doing job orders for Npc's  there much like quests really but your crafting things for them, they supply the base metal you need you just have to buy fuel or oil or whatever it is your using . And once you get up a few levels in crafting , which doesn't take long one job order will pay enough to buy the mats to do 10 more easy

    Karandor:

How do you get your diplomatic cards or your crafting tools if you don't do the quests?

AoC is a class and level system.  That by itself means that it will never feel like the original SWG skill based system.

    - How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?

    - I don't know, but some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?

Vanguard is trying to establish the 'huge open seamless-world' as the standard in MMORPG's.

If Vanguard was to fail, your chances of seeing those SWG-like features (really, UO features) ever again in the future are slim.

Thankfully, Vanguard lives up to the hype.
