Sup Guys, Dark Age of Camelot Rocks, Sure it sucks for lowbs but im not a lowb so that dont matter to me :P
If you get bored of the game you can always go to a pvp server for a month, then you will be dying to come back to a real server and do some leveling again lol. The new rvr is gana be crazy cool with the new towers and all and the new RA system.
All servers have the /level 20 command, but only 2 realms on the Lancelot server now have the /level 30 command.
I have played DAOC since day one, but when SWG came out i decided to check it out for 6 months. I'm back to DAOC because SWG has horrible PVP and no end game.
DAOC is the best online game i have ever played, and i've played most of them !
I enjoy playing in the Battlegrounds in all 3 realms
Originally posted by Nihilx DAoC was a great game, one of the better MMORPG's I've played over the years and had some of the best character related feats I've encountered in the genre. Imo, the biggest mistake Mythic made was to almost solely focus on the highest lvl's, leaving the new characters and players out in the cold. Since the strength of this game is largely made up of RvR and levelling alone is tedious and nearly impossible, you're pretty much a dead weight at lower levels.
I Agree....
For anyone that is thinking of picking this game up might want to get with a friend and level two toons)not a Bot) at once. It will help get you through the lower levels and will also teach you how to work in a group setting.
Originally posted by Billius8 The reason, Tenebre, is that we (or a lot of us) are hopeless MMORPG addicts trying to get our fix anyway we can until better games like EQ2 and UXO, etc come out.
<- I too am an Evercrack, DAoCrack, AsheronsCrack, etc...MMORPG addict.
The early levels of the game are no big deal and go quickly. The problem is that most people are too lazy to solo or do anything for themselves. A lot of people want to be spoon fed their levels, armor gold ect.
Also, I totally disagree with the statement that the "early game is dead." Every server ive been on has low lvl toons being rolled out. Granted, many of them are people's alts, but they are still low lvl toons.
Mythic has pretty much done away with the /level 30 command which means Thidranki will be used more now which gives a newbie a chance to test his/her toon in battle sooner.
With new Frontiers, new RA lineup and the new expansion coming out at the end of thee year, DAOC should continue to go strong for a long time.
I don't think DAoC will be severely effected by the release of the new mmorpgs this year. Yes they will lose some customers, but from my experience with the game and Mythic, I know they will compete. They have improved the game continuously from day 1. They are still making plans to improve it. The new engine, the many patches, new features, etc. The gameplay has always been solid and fun. I just recently came back and I am finding DAoC to be my favorite mmorpg once again in a crowded market full of very good mmorpgs.
I will be one of the players that leave the game when Everquest II and Dark and Light comes out, but I will most likely return, especially if the games I just mentioned are not what I expect or just not as fun as DAoC. I have left it before and here I am, and I am confident it will pull through and have a long life though it all.
On my last few weeks on daoc (lanc alb) i would do a /who keltoi, catacombs, plains, barrows etc. Dungeons/areas that would hold 4 or 5 groups at one time would have a total population of one or two 50's levelling alt bots or artifacts.
Obviously i can speak only of the lanc server but the lowbie (and for me some of the coolest parts of the entire game) part of the game appeared dead.
Sure Daoc will keep its higher level people playing for some time to come. I think partly due to friendships forged ingame and their unwillingness to part with all they have earned in the game.
I try to get back into this game (about 4th or 5th attempt), but it seems so boring now. The low level game is lifeless (maybe 4 or 5 folks your level). The upper level game, I've heard, gets old after awhile.
I think this game could have been better served with more content in less zones. Keep folks together, so you don't feel like you're the last person on the planet when wandering through a zone.
Shortly after release, this was a very nice game. Now it's getting long in the tooth.
Aye, on the Bedevere server(Albion), the sub 20 level population is almost non-existent. You can run forever through Salisbury plains and see nary a soul. What used to be popular camp sites are now completely deserted. Prydwen Keep area, Camelot Hills, SI low areas, etc, all deserted. I really feel bad for anyone trying this game from scratch, as they will have a tough and lonely go at it.
Altho, our guild just picked up some true noobs.....a mom and dad and son. They are enjoying it, because they all are the same level and always have each other to group with. If you're starting this game from scratch, that is the way to do it......start with a friend or a group of friends.....then at least you'll have a group most of the time.

Right on kermi....I had some of the best online fun of any mmorpg in daoc. It saddens me to see such a good game go to waste. I believe the /level command has been removed from the lanc server but this will do nothing to increase the level of people picking up the game. (any one who will make another alt will most probably powerlevel it. It is not only the lowbie areas that have suffered either. barrows is almost dormant, house/tree gob groups are just a memory and what are withers?? such a shame....
DAOC will hold me until EQ2. I have a 35 Armsman on Percival that I play off and on. Will grind out a few more levels then jump to the game I really want to play, which is EQ2.
I don't know why people keep saying the combat system in the game is good. Frankly, it sucks. The reason there are some classes that do really well and classes that just plain suck is because the combat system in the game is shoddy at best. Unfortunately, rather than fix the problems with the combat system Mythic is choosing to try to 'balance' the classes by giving and taking stuff from them. It will never work.
I've started and quit this game a total of three times already. Every time I've quit has been because I get frustrated over the fact that the game has great potential that is just not being used.
Keep in mind that the highest I ever got in this game was lvl 24 and most of my knowledge comes from reading guides created by tech leads and personal experience. That being said the first big problem I have is the stun/mez factor. I think there is too much emphasis on stun/mez spells/styles in the game. I don't think that combat should be based on who got there stun/mez of first. I think the max time for a stun should be about 3 seconds and mez spells should require the caster to stand and do nothing while they mez people. What I mean by do nothing is that the caster can't cast, move, fight, or do anything but stand still and concentrate on the spell. I also think that if the caster takes damage the spell should break.
I feel that the skills Shield and Parry need to be more balanced. Right now it seems like everyone takes shield and parry is a secondary defensive skill. They need to make parry as useful as shield skill so that both or required for a good defense. If it were me I would have shield only protect the front and left arc of the character and have parry protect the front and right arc. So if someone doesn't raise parry they are defensively weak on the right side. I also think they should add shield styles that chain from a parry. It makes sense to me that it would be easier to parry someone's weapon away then rotate and slam them with my shield than it does for me to block with my shield then hit them with it. There just is not much flow in the combat styles.
I think archery needs to be alot more lethal. I think the archery based classes should be own just about all classes that don't have a shield. I thought that was the whole point to having the guard skill in the game was to protect character who do not have a shield from characters that do. I think they should also make it so /guard and /engage can work together. That way you would need your fighters to protect your casters/archers against other archers rather then having them run up and pummel the other guys casters.
I could go on for a while with gripe/ideas but I will not. To me it seems like Mythic needs to make up their minds on how they want the game to play out. They want everything to be group bases but it seems like they don't necessary want group members relying on other group members. It all comes down to having a certain combination of spells in your group and who can get them off first rather than any kind of strategic/tactical gameplay.
Finally, I feel that class identities are very misleading or off the mark entirely. It seems like some classes fulfill what is perceived as their role in the realm while others are not given the skills to do so. A classic example of this is the Hunter. What exactly does a Hunter hunt? Assassins are given a better ability to find stealthed characters and can in most cases kill a Hunter even if the Hunter does get the drop on them. Also, Hunters are required to spend realm points just to get the ability to 'hunt' other stealthed classes while assassins get the abilities they need to perform their job 5 lvls after character creation. If your going to call a class a Hunter, then give them the ability to hunt. If your going to call a class a Scout then give them the ability to Scout.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that they should give all classes a specific role to play and make them good at it. Also, change the combat system to reflect this. That's my opinion.
I played DAoC for a few years, and played every class except for some classes in ablion maybe...though I think I may have done all there too. Highest I had was a lvl 50 savage, but even that became stagnant. I thought I couldn't find the class for me, but in the end I realized it just wasn't that good of a game. I was an mmorpg junkie and after figuring that out I quit it and began to look around for something else. Shadowbane, E&B, and a bunch of games I can't even remember I tried or beta tested. I found FFXI and that was a great game that was better than DAoC in almost every way but had its flaws that made me quit that too.
After playing all these games I'd say that DAoC wins the trophy in the developmental league of mmorpg's. I know what you're thinking, that was just a bunch of rambling that says absolutely nothing new....but wait....DAoC might be the best around so far...but that doesn't mean you have to play it. Play free games, get into betas and just plain look around. DAoC is that old girlfriend you just can't help but come back to....but she's just keeping you back from experiencing better games out there. Let it go no matter what if you don't like it, you'll feel better about it in the long run.

What level range of lower levels? Is it the 1-35 range? or just 1-19?
