I have a Core 2 PC, 2gig of ram and a ATI 1600xp Pro 512mb graphics card, This game is no where near as good as SWG was or even close to EQ2. The Graphics look horriable am I doing something wrong? I'm on Balanced the game lags and the graphics are such a let down. maybe my settings are bad please respond if you had this problem also. Thanks Ajax
as someone said.. defrag, also update drivers, turn of antivirus programs (or atleast "realtime" scans) and shut down any un-needed applications that are running in the background.. for me this ment that i could go from Balanced to 1280x1024 with High Quality, with almost no FPS loss at all (i lowered the clip-distance abit tho, so it isnt 100% High Quality anymore)
My computer is a A64 3400+ 2 gigs of ram and a ATi X850PRO GFX-card, even managed to play it on my laptop P4 3.2Ghz 1Gb RAM and an X600!! gfxcard.. tho on that i had to set almost everything to lowest but still 1440x900 resolution (as it is widescreen)

your biggest issue is your video car, 1600's are mid range type cards. so more than likely the most you will get out of it is balanced settings.

I dont care for bugs at least if a MMO is new, its normal... the only reason i didnt continue playing was the bad graphics even at highest settings, its not the polygon count and stuff like this, graphic art is just bad same like it was in EQ2, to much grey, brown everywhere ah dunno the whole picture just doesnt fit together somehow, looks very weird.
Good graphics for me is something like Gothic3, Guild Wars, WoW is also fine could have some more polygons and higher textrures tough but the art is very good.
I really cant point my finger on it why Vanguard & EQ2 looks so horribly bad, it just looks like crap even with high polygon count, high textures etc etc ...
But to be fair overall I cant say anything about Vanguard, it might be a good game but I just care to much about graphics.

Your reading skills=2nd grade level. I never said I never played WoW. I have played it and enjoyed it. I also beta tested Vanguard:SOH for several months. I was actually a Vanboi like yourself, having attended both Fanguards. Vanguard game just sucks and I am disappointed that I got caught up in pre-game hype for a game that fails to deliver.

Its not a pile of shit at all. It's not the type of game i prefer or how I would have personally wanted my virtual experience in Middle Earth to be like. But its fun in the same way WOW is fun to people, and more polished now than alot of 3 year old games For veterans of MMO's it sux..but theres alot of new people it could draw in.

You should be able to play on Balanced, but it depends on so many factors in your machine. Defrag your HD, and tweak with the recommendations stickied on the these Forums. Start with High Performance and work your way up. As far as the game, coming from a Pre-CU Jedi, SWG Beta Player & someone who Mastered every Profession (most twice) the game gets MUCH better as you advance. Crafting, Diplomacy & Combat become more complicated then anything Pre-CU offered. I will add I still HATE Combat Levels, but oh well.... take what you can get when it's fun...

The first time I heard about Brad's vision i though, "Meh, another guy from EQ1 with big words". I changed my mind only after playing in beta. The sheer amount of things that VSoH promised to deliver, minus the amount it didnt deliver equals the amount of things VSoH has right now. That amount is much more then pretty much any other MMORPG out there. Right now most games follow one path, leveling with occasional decent crafting to supplement leveling. VSoH added a third sphere - diplomacy. Its not to a full potential as yet, but even what it is right now - its fun. I dont know how long I can play VSoH if I would ONLY do diplomacy, maybe a week, maybe two, I dont know. The fun part is when u actualy do get bored with combat, you can switch to harvesting, when you do get bored with harvesting, you can switch to crafting, when you do get bored with crafting, you can switch to diplomacy. Each sphere is a stand alone one, meaning its not a 5 minute job, nor is it mindless click-wait-click. If you dont pay attention to any single sphere, you will fail. You wont win diplomacy if u dont use your wit and play smart. You wont create an item if you keep geting complications and you go too far with quality without leaving points to finish the product. None of these spheres feel subpar to ther other spheres.
You dont realy need a great combat or lots of content to make a good game. if your options are limited, you will eventualy get bored. What VSoH brought to the MMORPG market is options. The more options you get, the better that game is becuase you will never be bored with it, as long as you dont concentrate on one sphere.

Dunno about releasing one year sooner, got a link to that? but I dont realy care what the final product was in Brads mind, I only care what I play now. Right now, at level 10, the product is about 80-85% finished. There are lots of bugs, mostly cosmetic, a few bugs did influence my gameplay but not enough to stop playing it or annoy me. If someone promised me a car with rocket engines to fly to the moon, but instead gave me a car that just flyes... heck, id still be happy.

With a heavy heart and a twinkle in my eye---actually, just a twinkle in my eye---I must tell all of you Vanguard fans a secret. If I loved you my next statements would be called hard love. But, I don't even know you so this is just going to be hard.
When what's-his-name McQuaid, the "visionary" developer of Vanguard announced that the game should not have been released for another year because it wasn't finished, but it was being released any way as his company had run out of funding, your radar screen should have lit up. At that point (if not long before because the clues being dropped in interviews and in the Vanguard forum were large as billboards) you should have known that Vanguard would suck massively, and would be following the World of Warcraft income model to the letter!
The first time I heard about Brad's vision i though, "Meh, another guy from EQ1 with big words". I changed my mind only after playing in beta. The sheer amount of things that VSoH promised to deliver, minus the amount it didnt deliver equals the amount of things VSoH has right now. That amount is much more then pretty much any other MMORPG out there. Right now most games follow one path, leveling with occasional decent crafting to supplement leveling. VSoH added a third sphere - diplomacy. Its not to a full potential as yet, but even what it is right now - its fun. I dont know how long I can play VSoH if I would ONLY do diplomacy, maybe a week, maybe two, I dont know. The fun part is when u actualy do get bored with combat, you can switch to harvesting, when you do get bored with harvesting, you can switch to crafting, when you do get bored with crafting, you can switch to diplomacy. Each sphere is a stand alone one, meaning its not a 5 minute job, nor is it mindless click-wait-click. If you dont pay attention to any single sphere, you will fail. You wont win diplomacy if u dont use your wit and play smart. You wont create an item if you keep geting complications and you go too far with quality without leaving points to finish the product. None of these spheres feel subpar to ther other spheres.You dont realy need a great combat or lots of content to make a good game. if your options are limited, you will eventualy get bored. What VSoH brought to the MMORPG market is options. The more options you get, the better that game is becuase you will never be bored with it, as long as you dont concentrate on one sphere.
Are you saying that 2 years into WoW release people are still blinded by all the "amazing promises" from the devs? People arent stupid, especialy when they are paying money for their entertainment. If someone is not entertained, they will NOT pay money. Dunno about releasing one year sooner, got a link to that? but I dont realy care what the final product was in Brads mind, I only care what I play now. Right now, at level 10, the product is about 80-85% finished. There are lots of bugs, mostly cosmetic, a few bugs did influence my gameplay but not enough to stop playing it or annoy me. If someone promised me a car with rocket engines to fly to the moon, but instead gave me a car that just flyes... heck, id still be happy. Carefull, I posted similar things with different user names and got banned. For the record, this the longest I've kept an account on MMORPG.com!!! I guess I offend to many of the people that pay for ads on this site! The truth does hurt. Its not what you say, its how you say it. Theres nothing wrong with constructive criticism (thats what forums are all about). Theres everything wrong about 1-line flames like "This game sux". If you want to communicate to a community, you have to speak comprehensively and not in cryptic sentences.
