it's got its good and bad but it also has alot of potential. I'm playing and having fun and I guess in the end that is all that matters.

theres three kinds of games imo.

    1) outright craptastic games.

    2) games that "have potential".

    3) great games.

great games dont have potential because theyve already realized it.

Here is a great review written by mmorpg.com member Elkial

Honest , well written ... except he doesnt mention how high PC requirements the game has , so take this into count

I have a really crap computer (P4 3.0 - 2 GB cheap RAM - X1950 pro which work at half its capabilities due to MB limitations), yet I can play VG at decent FPS at Balance setting.

If you have a Core 2 and a 1 year old graphic card with 2 GB RAM, the game is good looking enough to play at decent FPS so don't worry about performances.

The game looks quite interesting, it is similar to EQ2 first version before the nerfing, but it has also a good feel of freedom which EQ2 never had.

Yes the first 10 levels you are guided through some long tutorial quest (either for Adventuring, Crafting and Diplomacy), but then the game starts to give you more freedom to do what you wish.

Also this game is strongly made for people who likes to group.

First 10 lvls it is mainly solo, but after that you need to group to achieve your goal faster.

IT looks good so far, not sure about the end lvl, since i am just lvl 17, but definetly has potential, an I am not saying it in a DnL sort of way.

DnL was totally crap and unplayable, Vanguard plays well (except few bugs like the occasional disappeareang mobs when u fight), almost all features are already in and working, so there is no comparison between Vanguard and DnL, Vanguard is defineetly lightyears ahead in the development area.

If u have a Station Access Pass you MUST buy it, if you don't, I suggest you to buy it, you won't get disappointed.

I read the review linked above and while it's well written and makes a lot of good points, its written purely from the Adventurer point of view.  But there are really three games going on in Vanguard: Adventurer, Crafter/Harvester, and Diplomat.  Adventurers collect X and kill Y to complete quests, entering areas, caves, or dungeons to further XP, collect armor/weapons/etc. for sale or use and level up.  Nothing new here, really.  Yes, as described, if you don't want to  - or don't feel it's possible to - retrieve your corpse, you take an XP hit.  And if you solo, you WILL die.  But, you don't have to adventure in this game to enjoy it.  During the beta, I spent an entire Saturday, from 6:30a to 10:00p playing Vanguard and never once killed anything.  I spent the whole time crafting and working my diplomacy skills.  I had more fun that day then I'd had playing WoW in well over a year.  One reason, I came to realize, was I never gave leveling a thought.  In WoW there seems to be this fervent rush to Level UP! Level UP! Level UP!  I don't feel that in Vanguard.  It's so easy to switch back and forth between adventuring, crafting and diplomacy that I never feel pressured to focus on one aspect, and I enjoy all of them.

The reviewer mentioned a lack of backstory for Vanguard.  It's true to a point, but if you really work on diplomacy you will see stories emerge.  You become entwined in the game's politics, and using levers, you can actually change political outlooks of entire cities (albeit for limited times).  The diplomacy system does still have bugs and needs some more content, but it looks like it could be a huge step forward from anything yet seen in MMOs.

IMO crafting isn't for everyone; it can be tedious.  I spend several hours crafting in EQ2 and enjoyed it.  Vanguard is similar in process.  On the plus side the actual process of crafting is more polished than in EQ2, clearer steps and defining icons and very clear formulae.  However, actually gaining new recipes seems harder.  When I reached LVL 7 Artificer I was tought one new recipe, at LVL 8 my trainer had NONE for me!

I love the game so far.  It's harder than WoW, which I really enjoy.  It's beautiful.  You get your mount at Adventurer LVL 10.  I rode out to the east coast - through a lot of empty plots for new home sites which we can build  - and came upon a cliff overlooking the ocean.  It looked real, and I mean real, it nearly took my breath away.  I'll keep playing this for awhile; I just hope the patches will keep up with players progress.  Despite the bugs I rate this 7 of 10 so far with the potential to go all the way 10 or all the way to 0.  We'll see.

I love the game so far.  It has a few bugs that need to be shaken out, but nothing too bad.   The game looks and plays great on my system, my FPS has gone up tremendously since beta.  I think it is already a great game!
