Can someone recommend a MMORPG for me?

auryxauryx Member UncommonPosts: 93

Hi All,

OK, I've never played any kind of MMO game before and would like to try an RPG. Looks like there's a pretty good selection, but I need some advice, hope you can help.

Basically, I don't have a great deal of time, maybe a couple of hours a day max - is it possible to really get into an MMORPG w/o spending more time on it? Problem is, I'll need to be able to leave the PC and resume Real Life at regular intervals, so I don't think I'd be able to spend lots of time online arranging to meet other players for quests etc.

My ideal criteria would be:

- opportunity for solo play, just exploring the world, interacting with other players when you wanted
- not just hack n slash or based on levelling up your character all the time
- game where people try to role-play and act "in character".

Any ideas? thanks!

Auryx

Anarchy Online is a great MMORPG. The community is great and there is a lot of roleplaying, probably more that any other game i've played. This game is very team oriented, but if you like soloing, play as a Martial Artist or an Adventurer. There is alot more to do than level in this game. You can do missions which can give you great rewards, and just roaming around the beautiful landscape is great. It's a great game and i strongly recomend it.

Asheron's Call is the best MMORPG ever, but people don't always act in character. You don't have to interact with everyone all the time though.

I suggest you get yourself: Neverwinter Nights

No monthly fee, and is very kind to the casual gamer. It 's not a MMORPG persay, but it shares similarities. Spending monthly on a game you can only give about 14 max hours a week to is not a good way to spend funds, unless you have a surpluss of it. Look around and if you really desire a p2p game go get it, but most MMORPG's are for hardcore pc gamers with a lot free time.

Il second Neverwinter. I played this game myself for 2 years before quiting. I would recommend playing online if you can buy the two expansion.

The games work with a a lot of different modules, created by the comunity. Take Server Side Vault as u don't want hacker to import their char.

U can also choose to show only Role playing server, or Action... or anything u want, wich is really good. I had the best Rp experience i ever had on Nwn, and also the best action/power gaming on some other server.

IMHO u won't find better go for it dude!

P.S.: WoW is not out yet, due to end of August... wich is a bit far.

Wow, thanks for all the replies - it's great to find a forum where people are so helpful!

All the suggestions sound good - I've played the single-player version of NWN, but never really thought of doing it online - you're right, sounds like a good compromise seeing as how I don't have too much time on my hands (unfortunately!)

With luck, one day I'll be able to devote a bit more time to online gaming and really get into loads of MMORPGs.

    cheers,

    Mike.

Well, City of Heroes is definitley for the casual gamer. You can get groups in the matter of minutes, or just solo. You can also fly around the city and explore a bit. And at release there will probably be a role-playing server.

planetside is a fun game for a casual gamer. though not a rpg type game, it is still fun if you cna only play a couple of hours a day. another fun one is fungwan online. i do not recomend buying lineage2 though since it sucks and all
