Can Lineage II really live up to its seige battle's promise

The Devs for Lineage II say they promise that when these HUGE siege battles take place that there will be a lag free game play event (at least I think they stated this, but besides that). But how can they see this possible when (if you have been playing the open beta like a true MMOGer) there is lag in the cities and dungeons everywhere, even during the middle of the night when hardly anyone is on? Does anyone else tend to see this as a false hope for the game’s devs, and do you think this game can really deliver after all the grinding it takes just to be at a suitable lvl? Your thoughts please~

Also how are some of you testers beating the lvl grind? As in how are you getting over the mass amount of time it takes to lvl, your opinions are helpfull::::31::

I really dont know how it will work out but just as an FYI there have already been some sieges in the Korean version I believe.  I am sure there must be some posts out there somewhere that tell how those went.  Maybe check on L2Orphus or if you have a translator some of the Korean sites.

As for lag with current game play I rarely experience any unless I am in a city center with 50 people with personal stores or in an equipment shop with a ton of other people smashed in.  In regular play or even in large groups out front of cities I get little to no lag.

The level grind hasnt bothered me at all as I never notice it.  I am always thinking about how much more money I need to make to afford the next weapon or armor so thats the grind that gets to me not the exp.  The exp seems to just flow in as I struggle to make enough adena.  image

i could not stand the leveling in this game, its just horrible. the game its self seems fine, not bad at all. the leveling is more time consuming than everquest from what ive seen. ive played everquest for 3 or 4 years and L2 beta for like 3 months just FYI.

as for lag, i laged ALOT even when soloing by myself. i really dont see how they will make it lag free during 100+ people sieges. if they do though, that would be quite amazing.

im not going to P2P at its release but i will defientily check it out later... which i hope isnt bad due to all the high level players that might kill newbies lol.

I myself was laughing at Misti when she used to boast on "how good L2 was going to be"

    I must say..I am impressed

the game is wonderful, I could play for 5 hours straight today and not get bored... (and for a mmo and me, that's good)

I would actually preffer this game over EQ *gasp*, not eqii of course..lol

I just need to find my way around, and explore, things like that..

    it's a wonderulf game though

Im not sure what you have been reading Murt but Lineage 2 is not a game I would boast about...

I love the graphics, some of the class/skill ideas and the monsters and such but there is as much bad about this game as there is good. image

Generally when I post about Lineage 2 its to say I love the art style or to correct what appears at least to me to be incorrect information about the game (most often I am just trying spread as much helpful info as I can since I played some in closed beta).

Overall I think a lot of people who try the game dont really stick with it long enough to see where it shines at higher levels but then again if they arent having any fun getting there I cant blame them for leaving.

There are many things I would give this game a 5 out of 5 on but overall I consider L2 a 3 out of 5 star game.

I'm going to answer your question as objectively as possible.

    1) How could they possibly guarantee lag free PvP siege warfare when we see significant lag in crowded town center?

Ans: From option menu, try to reduce screen resolution to minimum with 16 bit, remove some of the layers of decorative element as well as reducing object draw distance. You will see dramatic improvement. Now even if you set graphic detail to minimum, you will see your new screen to be not that much different from original one.

My computer with current spec (ATI 9800) and settings has NO lag of what so ever in the crowded town center like "Gludio" or DE Town.

L2 dev team attacked this issue for Chronicle 1 in a big way and as far as I know they are trying to further improve it.

There are real-time in-game footage of castle siege in some L2 fansite, you just have to check it for yourself.

    2) There are definitely some ways to dramatically speed up leveling up process in L2 besides duping/exploiting.

I know few secrets that I only keep for my clanmates. But to be bold about it, I tell can you few things: First search the distribution of Mobs in the map. Look for mobs that drops medium priced items (500a-1700a) at higher probability. Locate spot for farming and exping. If you are ranger look for place that spawn mobs with slower speed. And remember most of those who reached lvl 40+ by now are power lvler who uses soul/spirit shot combo extensively (it evens out at the end).

Now grouping is absolutely recommended in dungeon area. Grouping in village like Olm Mahum base, Cruma Tower can give you as much as 15% to 20% benefit in your exp over time.

So soloing in those area are discouraged.

    3) L2 dev team are listening all the time. L2 isn't by no mean complete. They keeps adding content at each chronicles. The last I heard is that for chronicle 2, they are planning to add some minigames, etc as some distraction from non-stop continuous grind leveling.

I got bored very fast, graphic is nice but the lvl grind is really bad and you almost get punished for teaming at low lvl..

Very little content when you level up.

...and so extremly many kids(or adults that act like them) shouting profanity and spamming...

yeah your right the level grind is quite a drag. you are mostly being bussy with leveling in stead of roleplaying however the adena you find is very balanced. items are quite expensive but you really need to save money for buying the wanted item. the graphics are superb only its to bad when you are wearing an helmet and you dont see it on your chars head.

The siege battles will be major lag fests, a town with 15 people in it brought my P42600 with 1gig ddr ram and GF5950 256 ddr ram vid card to a dead stop. Yes I know it was beta, but they wont optimize the servers that much more, plus its all really null and void cause the treadmill to get that high was just to sucky IMO.

I played the closed beta since early March, and have been logging in every night since.  I am finding Lineage II to be a lot of fun.  Overall I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.  Here are some of my comments:

The game is beautiful.  What little downtime I have (as a Mage) I use to just look around at everything.  I love the art, style, and production of the whole game so far.

The battles/combat are fun.  There could be some more animations and little details, but I like the way combat works.  Battles are not too long, there seems to be a good balance.

The grind is ok for now, but I have played a few characters since I began and haven't gotten past level 20 yet.  I heard from some people that after 20, it gets bad.  As long as there are goals to strive for, the grind doesn't bother me.  If I am grouped with interesting players, the grind is non-existant.  I recommend making friends, joining a clan, and basically socializing while hunting, it makes things much better.

The content seems ok for now.  I am looking forward to the high-levels, if I ever get there.  Quests are basic, and seem the same type over and over, but they are interesting enough to do them and the rewards are alright.

My biggest complaint is the character customizing at creation.  There should be many more options to make our characters look more unique so everyone doesn't look the same.

I get very little lag.  I have a pretty good PC - Intel P4 2,4 Ghz, 1 gig DDR PC 2700 RAM, ATI 256 Radeon 9800 XT, so I crank up the graphical settings and the gmae runs smooth.  When I get into busy cities there is some lag.  I think Castle Sieges will be different that in cities, because Personal Stores seems to cause a lot of lag.  I think there should be Consigners to sell items, like in Horizons.

I like the PvP system.  I think it is working alright.  There could be improvements, but the balance of things seems to be working.  The punishment for PKing is severe, but I don't like to get PK'ed, so I am happy if things stay the way they are.  I still believe that at higher levels, Pking individually will be less frequent, and the clan battles will be the focus.

Overall, I agree with Misti about Lineage II.  It is fun, it looks great, it runs fine, but there is so much that can be improved.

Back to the original post. No i dont think there will be for a long time. First off there going to loose alot of people because of the level grind. It is worst than EQ. Some people might enjoy doing the same thing over and over but they will loose a big chunk of people who are sick of the formula.

If they want Large Siege battles. They need to first lower the Grind tremondously, And no.2 take off exp penalty for dieing in pvp. In lineage 2 you can loose a level if you get low enough. Sick.

There's no chance they'll have lag free seige's. I think anyone that's played open beta can clearly see that as having a large number people in a small area just crushed their servers.

The games great once you get more into it level wise. I hate the grind and love it at the same time its odd but good. The open PvP is really what i love the most.

Wow... I can't beleive most people rated it 5 or 4 stars! Come'on...

1- The threadmill is so slow and boring

2- PvP is based on Lvl/equipment

3- Crafting system is worse than ever

    4- Character customization (LOL)

    5- Very bad economy

    6- Farming

7- Lvl 30 doing farming lvl 18 quests for money

8- I could give more but Im bored.

Your pictures got me thinking Gunblade.  I dont really experience any lag unlike some of these other posters even in very large groups unless there are personal stores.

The thing is, I play with names off in every mmorpg I play since I think it looks silly to have the names floating over everyones heads.  Maybe the absence of all those names cluttering up the screen is why I dont lag?  Just a thought.

    Lineage 2 = Re-Skinned FFXI with seiges.

I liked FFXI more though because it has a better story line which is important to me in a RPG. However, in the end Lineage 2 failed to deliver for me. It wasn't that I was pked three times before I reached level seven or the fact my avatar had about 11+ clones in the same area. What really bothered was the character animations, and NPC's names are not capitalized. The game gave the same feel as Ragnarok Online. Can be somewhat fun if you tried really hard to make it fun, but then again why should you?

    P.S.

    So mean.  image

Actually like I said above I do lag in small stores with lots of people or in town centers with all the private stores.  I dont get the lag in groups of people outside town though really and thought it might be the lack of all the store and name text but who knows.

Lineage2 is a decent game. I give it a 3 stars. The Graphic is nice and everything, but everyone look all the same. It's like I'm a clone like everyoneelse. Is this suppose to be an rpg game? I don't think so. There is no content, story, or any interesting quest. The Comunity in Lineage is the worst I ever seen. People who play this game are jackasses with childish behavior. The charactors creation is a joke, worst ever. The skills system is very simple, and there's no charactors devalopment. The items are also simple and  boring. The combat system is okey, although there's no strategy in using your skills, which get boring very fast. Basicly this game is unintelligence, it's all about level grind. The Korean might like that in their game; straight foward grind with no strategy. The PvP system is just anoying because of the huge penalties for pking some jerk that steal my kills and loots. Castle siege suppose to be the main event of the game, but no one get a chance to try it yet, not to mention you have to be like 40+ to participate in it. It's a good game to pley for about a month or 2.

I had high hopes for L2, as I had for SWG. Now, I´ve been burned again. I think L2 has FANTASTIC graphics though, and I like the PvP. I also like some aspects of the movement/controll system, but hate others. For instance I like the possibility to run in curves, as opposed to running in SWG, and I like how the click-in-front-of-you feature makes a comfortable autorun function. But I hate the lack of not being able to toggle between enemies/targets, and I hate how you sometimes get stuck in a movement/direction when you are being chased. The lack of char customization don´t bother me very much, but it still is a problem. I love the possibility to participate in siege wars in the future. Now to the big probelm: GRIND! I HATE the grinding, and that´s the only reason I´m not going to play the game. If they had more fun quests, multilegged, interactive, PvP-involved and so forth, I would definitly buy the game. Now it´s just about camping, farming, and eating a sandwish while you watch your char rest or kill mob after mob. Booorong. The quest system in for instance AC2 is soooo much more fun then tha one in L2.
