This game is making people crazy!

I cannot believe what I have seen people say they will do for this game....New graphics cards, more ram, new computer altogether!  I just cannot believe that people would spend so much for one game.  The recent post about buying a new harddrive just to install this game makes me question on earth our priorities are with our money.......oh well, to each his own, but this is just crazy!

MMO's make people do crazy things.... 15hour aday, spending money on new computer parts, buyiing in game money with real money. my girlfriends ex played WOW ALL day and she said he spent $5'000 dollars in WOW gold. he called it "an investment" LOL!!!

Do you mean $5000 real dollars converted to WoW gold?  If so, well, that is just ridiculous....

I think most of us have similar priorities with our money.... food, shelter, etc

I also think that the "upgrade talk" is normal.  Vanguard is just highlighting how technology is changing and that if playing the newest games is what you want to do... then be ready to do some upgrades.   The same threads popped up when EQ2 released.  In fact... I'm sure if you look back on it... people were talking about upgrades when UO came out as well.

I completely agree.  I just hope that whoever buys stuff to play this game alone LOVES this game when they can actually play it.  I haven't played it yet,(waitng for trial or buddy key), but it just amazes me that we can spend tons of cashola for something that could very well dissapoint or not meet expectation.  I think the game will be great, but man, what a bummer for those big spenders if they actually hate it....ugh.

Upgrade talk is normal. It's not really a priorities issue. The thing is, usually it's when games like this come out that push system performance a bit, that people finally come to that decision "maybe it's about time I upgraded". Gamers upgrade all the time. It's not uncommon at all to consider if its time to upgrade when a game you've been waiting for comes out and starts showing the age of your current system.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

upgrade talk is not normal, it is a phenomena of the last two years. It is the bi product of a booming economy and an accelerated rate of discovering new technology. Compare this to the previous 20 years of gaming and you will se people upgraded at most once every two years. Now it's once every six months. This is not normal, but will be normal if it continues for another 20 years...but that won't happen because you suckers keep feeding the industry and inflating it to hell,....

I bought a whoel new computer, main reason:  Vanguard = all the money worth
  • FlemmonthangFlemmonthang Member Posts: 41
I'm glad your new computer was worth it for Vanguard.  It is always good to hear of a new mmo meeting expectation after spending tons of money just to play it.  As I said before, I hope everyone that shells out the cash LOVES this game as much as they expect to :-)

When someone spends 10 grand on a set of golf clubs they are thought to be wealthy refined gentlemen.

When someone spends 90 grand on a new sports car people say, "I wish I could afford that"

When someone spends 3 million plus for a mansion on a hurricane prone sandbar they are part of the 'jet set'.

Yet, if you upgrade to the latest computer technology and play a game that takes advantage of it, you are insane and have a problem.

I never ever said anything regarding the 3 stupid types of people you listed.  What a waste of money.  What is crazy is buying a car to keep it i your garage when it was made to be driven.  Or, buying a really expensive house that you live in for 1 day a year just because you can.  I think we can agree that this is a little a crazy.  Spending tons of money to serve one purpose is fine, but as long as the person uses what they paid for and enjoys it then it's all good.  I recently upgraded and bought a much higher quality computer out of neccessity.  My old one fried, but I use me computer everyday and don't think the purchase was for not.  I feel as if my general comment has made some people assume that I meant the comment in a way I did not intend......people seem really touchy right now....hmmm.....I'll solve this....

-VANGUARD IS THE BEST MMO EVER!

-VANGUARD IS SO OVERRATED AND BUGGY, WHAT A WASTE!

-WHAT THE CRAP IS VANGUARD?   GIVE ME WOW!!!!

-PEOPLE WHO UPGRADE THEIR COMPUTERS ARE COMPLETELY SANE!!!!

-PEOPLE WHO UPGRADE THEIR COMPUTERS ARE NUTS!!!!

There, I covered all the beses that make people edgy and I find myself in the middle.   Plus I had an irrelevant rant which means I totally fit in here.

I dont think its extreme to upgrade your computer to be able to play a game. I mean 90% of the people will upgrade their computers when the game techology surpuses their current setup. Games usually is what demand the most of your computer, and the mai reason to get an update. Last two times I upgraded my computer was 2 years ago for everquest 2, and bout 3.5 yeas ago for Morrorwind. Those two previous games made me understand that my setup was becoming obsolete. This time around I had trouble running Oblivion, coulndt run Gothic 3 at all. So when Vanguard came out I decided to go ahead and get a new setup. New dual core proccessor , faster ram, new gpu. This will allow me to run the games that came out last couple of months and the games about to come out next year ie Hellgate, AoC, etc . Probably in two years from now, I would need a new setup, but thats life

the best time to actually upgrade an old system is now, due to the fact that DX10 has been released which itself will make a huge impact on future games.

The new breed of gfx cards supporting DX10 in hardware is on the market, new breed of CPUs also out, QuadCore etc etc right now its a technology shift so if you need a new gaming rig the time to build or buy one now would be a nice choice, it wont get back to you later and bite you in the ass.

The only question you have to ask yourself as a consumer, do you want to be a pioneer exploring the new features RIGHT NOW you have to bleed a bit to get it, its not cheap, the other option which most people will probaby follow is give it 6 months time and let the stuff become more affordable.

Personally im in the pioneer category mainly because i develop games and program the DX API, and i have fun doing just that together with gaming online as well, so i guess that my excuse to spend a crapload of cash on a new rig, i had to bleed for my new one i recently bought, but i dont feel bad about if because i did not have to sell my house or anything to afford it, but thats just my way and its just as acceptable as dude02 buying a similar rig just to play vanguard.... its the fun factor people pay for what they have fun with.

I dont see people as crasy/idiots or retards because they buy a new rig because a new game is released, i mean for some people gaming is actually a hobby like playing golf, i never saw the purpose in golf but i would never call "golfers" retards, its not for me to judge i can have my opinion which is fine but posting on a message board calling people weird, retards or whatever because their financial aspect in life and how the maintain fun is different from yours.

    thats just my 2 cp.

This whole thing is a missunderstanding. MOST people are upgrading their systems because it's time. Vanguard just HAPPENS to be the game that shows them "Hey your pc needs a boost". Same thing happened when bf2142 came out and when NWN2. People buy the game because they havn't played anything recent or squeeked by with low setting and all of a sudden a game they wanna play comes out at TODAYS pc level. They see this and upgrade. I'm upgrading my pc too because it's about 3 years old Radeon x800 pentium 4 all that nonsence. Mainly in anticipation of Vista and DX10 but also because games recently: THIS, nwn,bf, etcare becomming more demanding. Also Conan, Spellborn, crysis pretty much EVERY game being released in the near future will require more than what most people have. The majority isn't splurging for THIS game but this has been a Catalyst to drive people to actually upgrade what they should have already.

Brother, you said a mouthful there.

You are 100% spot on in my case, sure Ive had other games dog-it, notabley Oblivion and Company of Heroes, but Vanguard was the frist one of those that I really wanted to spend time playing.

So... yes I think your right, it is a generation shift in hardware now, duel core, DDR2, DirectX10 compliant video cards, PCI-E slots and SLI all things that are realitvly common now (except SLI),  which simply werent necessary for last years big batch of games.
