lol, sounds like you need a better rig. and yeah, you are right, Vanguard is not the answer, it's good in it's own way, but won't replace what we lost.

I cannot agree.  I know at least 5 of my buddies (yes all of them swg addicts since pre-cu time) quit swg for Vanguard and will stay.

    BS.

Why would anyone need a better machine than what they use to run today's games?

So often repeated, so often ignored. Visuals don't matter in the long run.

Look at this: "A game is fully playable today" vs. "you'll need to upgrade your computer or wait 1-2 years till prices of hardware drop"

    Lessons are out there.

When Diablo 2 launched, 3D accelerators were all the rage. Yet D2 used 640x480 graphics. People were in uproar, blizzard was put down for screwing big-time, D2 got mocked into oblivion. And all those great games used Voodoo to deliver real-time 3D immersive experience.

Diablo 2 and battle.net are still running. How many latest greatest 3dfx GLIDE optimized games can still say the same?

If you have a game that uses state-of-the-art bleeding edge graphics that only a handful machines can handle, then your game was designed by engineers, not game designers. Engineers don't make great games - game designers do.

Obviously, they quit the NGE. That just means they don't smell their own fingers when they put them in strange places.

I totally agree here. Vanguard is not a placement for pre-CU SWG.

    Nothing is.

However Vanguard can be good in it's own way, and so far I am enjoying it.

There hare people who played pre-cu that thinks wow is fun to, does that make sense to?

Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway.

    Lol, Im one of those...

I think it comes down to the polish...

I know that wow is not as deep as SWG was... BUT then I value the smoothness, polish and the fact that MY SPECIALS FIRE,  or that QUESTS WORK 99.9 percent of the time.

Yes, elves suck and the dynamics are not the same... detail is not the same and colorful..

BUT the polish, pvp and system works.   ALSO there is people and success floating around in the air of that game.

It is amazing to see 300 people in a city again.... a MMO should be about that,  not about making it so you have no loss, decay or worry.

SIM vs ARCADE is the key phrase... when they took the SIM out of SWG it failed, bigtime.   We warned them, they did not listen.

Now what's left?    WoW getting around 10 mill subs and SWG now considering server merges-- lol YEP, looks like they fucked up.

I am having tons of fun on Vanguard. It isn't by any means a replacement for SWG, though. SWG was my game, you know? Heard about WoW and I was like "Bah! I have my SWG."

And before SWG it was UO.

Anywho, Until someone realizes how much money they are giving up, I'll stick with Vanguard. =)

Even EQ II is better than SWG these days.  It actually has a ton of content, voice overs, etc. The art work blows SWG away which frustates me sunce it is the same engine...

Vanguard- you need 2GBS of ram, at darn good CPU, and at least a 256mb video card.

  • HandsomeRobHandsomeRob Member Posts: 113

It baffles me that players who got the shaft in SWG would give $OE another chance to 'ram it home' and take up another game from them.  Yes I am a SOE hater! Yes I will never offer them another cent to provide me any online entertainment! Yes I started laughing when the 'Why did Vanguard launch with so many bugs' threads started.

To think pre NGE players would return to SOE just cause a "OH! New shiney!" came out, and forgive and forget 11-05.... Now many may say "get over it, it was over a year ago". Yes it was, but with so many new games comming this year, under development, or released... Have some pride. To return to them now, after how they treated our game is almost as criminal as them handing us ToOW, then NGE......

Mankind is not limited by imagination, but the courage to reach....

Isn't Vangaurd another one of those shite fantasy games?

    Nuff said.

  • yep, bought the game and it really seems still not fully made by Sigil. Looks as if $OE have rushed that game out. Terrible looking character models....

Doesn't feel right at all, looks like we got to dream on everyone. Maybe for SWG2 made wothout $OE!

The lag makes the game unplayable. And if you have an Nvidia card your going to have serious issues.

Everytime I entered a body of water the screen went black, everysingle time. I had to find ways to avoid crossing a nearby stream because I would have to reboot.

In the starter village there were 3 noc guards that patrolled around. Whenever they got close to me, I lagged out. Each movement became very choppy. I accidentally bought the same item twice from a vendor due to the lag.

My system is top of the line too. I spent $6,000 on the best alienware system a few months back..AMD FX2, 4 gigs ram, dual 7800 512mb video cards (1 gig total video memory), and a 30mbps internet connection. Yet the game ran like i had a 486 8 meg ram system.

I tried it for 3 days. Its boring, pointless, bug-filled, laggy, and just plain boring. Skip this one

dunno, but i got only a p4  3.2 radeon 9800 pro 256, and 1 gig ram, and i get smooth at highest quality while onyl turning aa and shadows off. Stop blaming companies when you obivously cant take care of your own pcs. And my friend is running it on a damn nvidia 6200 turbocache, sur ehe playes on high performance, but he can put clipping to highest, tree distance highest, a whole list of beautiful graphics and he DOESN'T GET A DAMN HITCH. People, clean your pcs, get older video card drivers, but for the love of buddah don't blame a game for your problems. As for network lag, also don't forget to check with ur isp, 99.9% of th eitme someones lag is their isp fault. BUT TRY THE GAME YOURSELF! Do not get sucke din by these indivduals who think they know eveyrthing and what they say is the end all for everything. Indugle dammit.

I am running the game with all the settings maxed out and 16x anisotropic, with 2Gb ram and an ati x1900xt-512. It runs smooth as silk, the game is a real beauty.

VG does not currently support dual cards (yet). But anyway, if it is really as you are saying then you have some serious problems with your PC and your internet connection.

Sorry but I find that very hard to believe that your Radeon can handle the game "smoothly" it's more likely you have alot of the other settings turned way down.  Vanguard is a pig when it comes to hardware and the engine needs optimizing badly, I can run the thing on my rig maxed and smooth but you shouldn't need to fork out 3500 quid for a rig to play a game that looks 4 years old - bad choice of engine and bad coding.

Well the truth is it is running great. Indoors, ever sinc ei reverted to an older omega driver, i get 50-70fps, and wilderness is now a 25-45 fps, which is FINE for this game. (this inclused a full party +3 other parties, in a tight cave.I love scorpions)

Don't assume another person's feelings, emotions, or system behaviours, you just can't win. Like I said before, perhaps you should look into your pc if you can't enjoy the game. Or perhaps you just hate this game because of three letters, SOE.

I am not gonna assume but my opinion is people need to make sure this game goes overboard just caus eof old events on totally different games. Lucas arts were the dumbasses who AGREED with soe for the changes. Sigil know a lot more about quailty games (in mmo field) then lucas, so I highly doubt they would let soe turn this game " in a different direction".

    ummm i run a amd x2 5000+
    1gig ram
    x1600 ati radeon pro 512meg pci-e
and i only paid about 600bucks for my system

game runs very smooth at balance (30+fps in city 50 outside) and 20 - 25 fps on high in city

btw reading your sig...i hope your using winxp64 and not the standard 32bit...cause it is your ram thats killing you, along with your dual sli vid cards...cause Vanguard does not support dual sli cards, and winxp (reg / pro) does not support >2gigs of ram. To support >2gigs you need the X64 version. If you know this already..thats fine, just trying to help :)

erm what are you on about did I say I have a problem running the game? the game runs very nicely on my system every setting maxed and at 1900x1200.  Regarding your last point -  I work in I.T. so I do know that
