Intrigued...but can I play it?

TheroosterTherooster Member UncommonPosts: 70

I think Vanguard is beginning to shape up into something worth at the very least trying.  but I'm worried I may be disappointed because of a lack of a top system and a lack of wanting to shell out money for a better one.  So for those with experience with the game and knowledge...could I run it?

Intel Pentium 4 3.07 GHz.  1 gig ram (can be upgraded to 2 if needed).

GeForce FX 5700 LE

Your card will just cry if you try to play this game.  On the bright side you can get a 7600gt AGP for around $150 U.S

If you get a new video card and another gig of memory you can play the game without problems.

I too have a machine on its last legs, I picked up an ATI 1950Pro, 2 gigs ram and overclocked my 2.40Ghz to 2.80 and I can play without too many problems.  I do switch back and fourth between bump maping levels, but that can be done on the fly so its quick and easy way to improve FPS when I need it.  Cant remember the setting has a name like "Normal Mapping" or something like that.

Grab a buddy key from a friend and do the 10 day trial, thats a pretty good way to get a feel for it.

The big killer, as with most large texture SoE games is going to be memory. The more you have of it the better. Basically, you want to reduce the swapping of textures as much as possible. A graphics card would definately help as well, but RAM would be a cheap alternative that would help alot.

You need a new video card, and another gig of ram.

    What about somethign like this:

    XFX GeForce 7600 GS / 256MB GDDR2 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card

And thanks for all the help!  Rumors of the "mean"  Vanguard community are largely exagerrated methinks.

Looks like it would be a decent card. May want to consider BFG tech for manufactuerer however. Thats just a personal preference I have though. They tend to produce some quality parts. Out of curiosity how much are you willing to spend on the card, and what kind of memory does your system use?

That should handle the game just fine... ^_^

You don't have much to do. A new video card and a Gig or RAM and you should be all set. You're getting off light compared to a lot of people.

Here are a few links to help you compare/contrast between the cards.

For a few dollars more you can get the X1950, which beats the 7600GS in most tests.

Card isn't too bad and another gig would help.

Your rig is quite old and will not be able to run everything at full (but I assume you realise this).

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Pentium 4 is old?  Shows what I know.  I use DDR memory, for the one who asked.

And the X1950 is actually about $100 more than I would be paying for the card I have listed.  I don't want to spend more than $100 on a card.  the one I listed can be bought for $80.

If you are thinking about that card, you should strongly consider a 7600GT instead.

It doesn't cost much more and the 7600GT's are considered to have probably the best cost/performance ratio of any cards on the market.

    Probably already posted, but:

    Your processor is fine.

Your video card absolutely needs an upgrade.

You can get by on 1 gig of RAM, but I recommend you upgrade to 2 gigs.
