I bought the game because I am desperate to have a timewaster untill Darkfall or AoC.
So here I am with the game installed and all. I can only play on lowest settings because otherwise it goes in slowmotion mode.
The game tastes, feels, sounds and acts like EQ2. That and that bitter aftertaste of SOE. I truly cannot see any differences with EQ2 and VG. Everything from the launcher to the skill book feels EQ2.
What shocked me the most were the level differences that almost was as strong as in EQ2
I started fighting a level 5 spider when I was level 3 and it whooped my ass so hard. I later came back as level 4 and beat it easily with 33% health left. This is the most utterly disturbing feature I think any game can have and I for life cannot understand the meaning of it.
I have no idea if the game gets "sooo much" better when you level more and gets into it. But I get the same feeling that the server I am on right now (the ONLY FFA PVP server there is now) will be so low populated in a while you cannot play it. The same issue that made me leave EQ2. It's SAD they cannot figure out a system that works both ways so that more people can play on the same servers. Really feels stoneage to me.
Anyway, I have little pleasure playing this game so far and probably play 30 min per day or something. Still gonna make it to the house building and flying mounts just to feel if they work smoothly and if it will be something interesting in any next gen mmorpg that comes out.
Over and out ^^

- A huge open and zoneless world.
- An interactive crafting system unlike any other MMORPG.
- You can use diplomacy to advance yourself, and the act of diplomacy itself is a skill based card game.
- Player/Guild housing.
- Boatmaking and customization.
- A more interactive combat system of reactions and sympathetic powers.
- A more advanced character creation system.
The PvP free for all server is also well populated.

At level 3 and 4 you were shocked to find that a level makes a huge difference when fighting a mob tougher than you?? You were level 3 man, of freaking course having another level will make a huge difference....ugh. As you get farther away from level 1 the levels make less difference but I find it exasperating that you were that shocked about dying to a level 5 at level 3. You found this "utterly disturbing"?? Holy crap man, did someone hack durahells account and is now posting spastic rants to try and make him look bad?
Also, there is a tweak thread stickied in this very forum which has many ways to improve performance. If you can only play on highest quality either you haven't tried them or you are playing with less than a gig of ram and a 128 mb video card.
I commented how boring I found this matter to be. And I am very stunned by the EXTREME fact that the levels matters that much. If so only in the beginning it's still a very rough difference compared to many other games I've played.
I hope it's true that it gets less drastic by time as you said. Though I doubt it really unless you get better items and so on. I don't really see the point of having TWO difference making factions like items and levels in one and the same game. This is only how I find a game to be appealing but others might like this system. Personally I just think it's lame.

Sounds like Vanguard is at the end of a long list of mmo's that you just dont find fun , perhaps you should stick to single player games
Sounds like Vanguard is at the end of a long list of mmo's that you just dont find fun , perhaps you should stick to single player games
So you're saying that leveling is the only reason to play a MMO?
Hey Abraxos! Thanks man! You've voiced exactly why I cancelled my EQ2 account a couple of weeks ago. I didn't hate the game by any means, I think it has a lot going for it. But I just couldn't figure out why I couldn't immerse myself in it. You voiced it exactly! And I totally agree...The whole instanced box thing just broke it up for me...
...and I think I'm going to go out and give Vanguard a try based upon your input as well. Heck - I REALLY WANTED to like EQ2. Again, I didn't hate it but it just didn't draw me in for the exact reason you mentioned above.
Thx bro!
You sure you like RPGs? o.O
