WoW here, WoW there!?

I wish people could stop mentioning WoW everywhere you turn and whatever you discuss. No wonder people are so furious about WoW. With so many players there are so many dumbbones that post tons of crap everywhere.

To me WoW hardly even exists and I've had greatly enough of explaining over and over again why I don't like it. Another thing is that all too few have the nerves to ignore the game when it's mentioned. If you really wanna make them stop the best result will be to simply ignore them when they start! If we all could co-op the forums would be a much nicer place!

So you come to a website about MMORPG's to bitch about the fact that all you hear about is the most popular, best selling, most played MMORPG in the history of MMORPG's???

Am I the only one seeing the irony here?

Anyways, to more directly answer your "statement". World of Warcraft is an industry changine game, much like Metroid was for the NES, or Civilazation, Red Alert and Half Life were in their time.

It's a game that has quite literally changed the face of gaming history, it has done more for the genre then every single game in the genre has done collectively and it's yet to hit a plateau. So yeah in other words, get used to it, because it's going to keep going.

And IMO, it's nothing but good. Even if I don't play WoW, it brings people into a genre that I love and believe has incredible places to go, it brings new faces, young and old, male and female, from all over the world to play collectively and have fun. How in the world is that a bad thing?

    1.  This is a contradiction. (Hardly exists, yet have to explain dislike)

    2.  WoW is a popular MMO.  This is an MMO message board.

    3.  The amount of hate geared towards WoW on this forum would lead me to believe the fanboy and supporters have a bigger problem defending it.

Well, first and foremost it has become that successful cause of a hundred million dollar heavy marketing strategy with full page

adverts, bought reviews and so on.

That doesnt tell much about its qualitiy and at least its just standard, not more not less.

Ya obviously not a WoW fan, but saying blizz bought high review scores is laughable, supose they bought their high review scores and numerous game of the year awards for starcraft, warcraft games and diablo too?

No amount of $$$ spent on marketing and advertising will sustain a bad game for 2 years. A game whoes player base is still growing btw.

Well, the reason people mention WoW so much is that it is the benchmark of the MMO genre. Look at its interface, not only is it flawless, but every future MMO has copied it in one way or another (Point in Case: Vanguard).

Secondly, most people who have played WoW can admit that nothing has diverted their attention to a game more than it does. I never had the craving to play a game like I did WoW. Beforehand, it was Oblivion, but WoW blows that feeling out of the lake.

Darkfall fanboy! All your posts make Darkfall look like the Second Coming. Maybe you're an employee of the small company creating the game? I could start pulling out the numbr of YEARS your game has been in alpha, but I'm gonna stick to the, you know, TOPIC AT HAND.

If there is any sort of Interface work in Darkfall, it will bite off WoW. It's not because WoW itself is flawless, but its interface definitely is.

Please stay on topic instead of advertising your favorite game (that you've never played?) everywhere you go.

Yea....i guess you can hang onto the whole Darkfall thing for another 2 or 3 years....even though its been like five already, and its still in Alpha stages...

Was Wow your first MMORPG game?

Cause the feeling you descirbe happened to me back in EQ1 in 1999. Nothing has given me that feeling since.

WoW was fun but got old and didnt come close to grabbing me like EQ1 did.

the WoW interface was good but, flawless? hince the 100s of UI mods for the game.

And considering WoW's UI came from other games as well and WoW took the good and imporved on it.

Bad thing = Fanboy who don't know anything about the evolution of MMORPG's who pop their cherry playing WoW for their first time.

The thing is, that it's mentioned everywhere and where it really shouldn't be mentioned.

If people just could learn more about theese types of games and their past many of theese arguments wouldn't even start to begin with.

Omg here we go again with the goddamn sale numbers!

How many packages of cigarettes are not sold per day? How many McDonalds hamburgers are not sold per day?

How come theese products sell so much even though they contain no quality whatsoever?

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying WoW is bad, but that only a truly ignorant and lame person would go with sale numbers as their only responce towards a question. The point is no matter how good/bad something is it can still be WIDELY POPULAR.

Noone can ever say WoW is the best because it would only be flaming that most people will find incredibly immature.

Fixed.  With games like Age of Conan, Warhammer, etc coming out soon, WoW will probably lose quite a few players...  and then more when the servers get low on population..  just my opinion though, and i probably won't even notice if you try to prove me wrong, so might as well save your time.

Noone can ever say WoW is the best because it would only be flaming that most people will find incredibly immature. So your counter arguement are Cigarettes and McDonalds hamburgers?Aside from the fact that I think its rediculous to compare MMO's to Cigarettes and McDonalds, Cigarettes provide a good feeling to people. and many people love McDonalds Hamburgers. these products ARE quality, just because you don't like them doesn't mean they are not of high quality.

World of Warcraft has received the highest average ratings of ANY mmorpg given by reviewers. not only that, WoW has also received more awards then any other MMORPG. Also that WoW has 8 million subscribers certain helps prove its quality. FYI, the next mmorpg in terms of subscribers is Lineage 1, with only 1,5 million subscribers.

WoW is the best MMO, but that does still not mean its for everyone. if WoW isn't the best, then what MMO is? Its silly to assume they are all of the EXACT same quality level.

It's not rediculous if you understand my point. Anything can sell well, doesn't matter what it is.

Relying on NUMBERS rather than actual game content when comparing WoW with other games doesn't tell anything about WoW at all. Just that it sells well. But does that mean it's the "best"? You know, maby you didn't notice but there's no such thing as a "best" game.

People crave different things. WoW has no sandboxing whatsoever, if WoW was the "best" it would appeal to me aswell? Right? Because it's the best game. It would contain world lore engagement for the players, it would contain world RvR, it would contain city building and you would be able to do about anything any online game ever invented. But guess what, you can't do anything of that in WoW.

WoW is what appeals to the largest amount of people because it's so simple. The majority of online gamers wants to rely on something they feel they have control off. Why can I say something like this? Because the majority of online gamers plays WoW. As simple as that.

Let's draw another example, sure there are lots of more people who play tennis than there are people climbing mountains? Even though climbing mountains is rougher, harder and more advanced than playing tennis, more people are playing tennis. Because they wouldn't wanna go through all the hard work to climb a mountain.

Look at the differences between EVE online and WoW. They gap is about as far as it ever will be. Theese are night and day, black and white.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
