i hear ya....and b4 im largely mis understood...complaining about true problems that a game has is one thing, and its not what im referring to. its more the interperson relations on these forums that cracks me up. and also i dont remember specifically saying anyone in particular except for knives only and only because he is the first person to respond with a "prove it" post...nothing directly personal with that member.
800k does sounds very hard to believe. Wouldn't that put it in 2nd place, behind WoW, in all time best selling North-American MMOs ever? The Amazon sales rank is ALL video games, EVER, isn't it? Ranking in at #55 so soon might be good for a PC-only MMORPG, I don't know.
WoW has really muddled our interpretation of the numbers. Used to be that a few hundred thousand box sales would be considered a big success. A hundred thousand in the first week? Even that's pretty damn good.
..but no, it's not a million. It's not WoW, but it's as if WoW isn't even in the same playing field as any other MMO out there, past, present, or in development. So using it as a yardstick is just ridiculous.
How about comparing Vanguard to Auto Assault. Look how successful it is!
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Originally posted by Harafnir He pretty much sums up the Vanguard community perfectly. Willing to believe or spread any amount of lies as long as it is making a game they are paying for look good. Sigil must be happy to have raving fanatics as a fan base, its cheap marketing, but it sure as poop make normal players avoid it like the plague.
Haha, and Sony Online Entertainment is hosting it right? I can't believe how stupid some gamers are... You're all gonna get effed in the ass just like we got in Star Wars Galaxies and in Everquest II...
Stay away from Sony! Smedley! *hissssss*
I'll ignore the SWG whine but EQ2 is 10 times better now than it was and I think that's pretty much agreed with by everyone with brain cells.
listed at the top of PC on EB Games (not exaclty certain what time frame this covers though)
its #29 (I assume in PC for all time, again timeframe not given, but this was insinuated) on Barnes and Noble
It is not on Best Buys top 10 for PC... but when I checked it only included 7 items in the top 10 list and one was FFXI. May be suspect.
Worth noting: If you ordered the game online, which a fair number of people obviously have (not saying 800,000 here), you stand a good chance of not actually having the disks yet. You would therefore not be able to make a character. Also people with a slower internet connection may be faced with update time before character creation. Many people may not start playing till the weekend and just pick the game up during the week. The system requirements are steep on this one, and people are mega-stupid about reading the box before buying.
What does all this mean? At this point characters created are a lousy indication of boxes sold. And boxes sold are a lousy indication of game quality and how many accounts they will get. In other words...none of us know crap. We don't know exactly how many it has sold although it is obviously doing at least respectably well for the first few days (at least selling in the high 10s of thousands perhaps in the low hundreds). The OPs numbers seem really high and he did not give good support. However the nay-sayers have no real support that it is selling poorly. None of us know ANYTHING.
Vanguard number two on top sellers, yet no where on the top 100.
These charts can be a week or month old, the game has been out 3 days ffs.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
If you scroll through the video games rankings on Amazon there are only 4 PC Games ranked higher than Vanguard. WoW, Burning Crusade (a few varieties here), and a Sims expansion (this games sales life is amazing).
Final Fantasy 7 is ranked like 300 something so this must not be lifetime sales as this one should still finish fairly strong. It must be sales in some period.
There is a lot of hardware in the Amazon sales rankings for video games.
There is a lot of Wii stuff there too. 1 and 2 are the Nintendo DS. This thing is amazingly strong, it outsells everything else if you count its different colors as different items.
I see no reason to assume Amazon's sales ranking is based on one week. Might be a month, might be a day. completely different time frames would make make sense for different types of products, and Amazon sells everything. I couldn't find any info, other than that it's updated hourly. Doesn't mean it's in the past hour though, right?
Also, different sellers get a different sort of clientele. e.g. EBGames gets a much higher ratio of serious gamers than Amazon, of course. Somewhere like BestBuy might be more in-between the two.

Exactly my point, YOU dont know. Doing a little research I found a lot of charts are one week. Makes sense as record/cd sales are also one week.
Give it a week before disclaiming that VG has done very badly or whatever make the naysayers happy.

welll folks; it doesn't surprise me that its selling well, i'm an ex-Vanguard beta & WOW player & despite all the VG bugs + performance issues i've always believed it has the potential to be great.
Quite simply there is no other mmorpg that has the massive graphic world of Vanguard or the amount of features to keep casual - solo - core & hardcore gamers happy.
People will bitch & complain about the bugs but the majority will still play the game, i bumped into a player ingame that was struggling with an old celeron pc and he was as happy as a samboy jurking his way through the game solely doing crafting and diplomancy!
Now that's dedication for you!!
Call me a fanboi if you want because i really think Vanguard has the potential to be a Wow killer.
People need to quit comparing or saying this is the WOW this and that. WOW is the exception not the rule in the case of MMOs. And most of myy friends who play WOW as I do not...have never even heard of VG. People for the most part that play wow are perfectly happy in azeroth. People that play VG will be perfectly happy in Telon. So why compare the 2. And no they are not fair comparisons. EQ2 to VG would be a more fair example. If VG reaches EQ2 subs it will be about where most expected.
and if VG eventually reaches 7mill Wow's subs it will exceed all expectations - perhaps hard for many to believe now but who knows where it will be in a year or two from now.
It's the #2 best selling MMORPG of all time for the first week period. Amazon.com lists it as their 22nd best selling item of all time. EB games has sold around 300,000 copies. Supposedly total sales are around 800,000 and growing.
I was surprised because Vanguard seems to not be making much noise on the forums - But I think that's because most of the gamers are just so involved in it right now.
LInks please? Unless you provide them then this is all hearsay at best and outright lies at worst. A game doesn't need false hype to make it succeed. All that does is piss people off and give it much worse word-of-mouth. A good game can stand on it's own merits.
Yet nobody questions how 8 million WoW Subscibers play on under 200 shards LOL
Only diffrence is, that WoW actually based its press releases on facts, and it clearly points out who are counted as subscrer. Nobody questions it because there is NOTHING to question. its all FACT.
You have to wonder how many of those 8+ million subscribers are really one person playing on one account. Personally, I know 3 guys that have 2 accounts each. I have one. One of my buddies has two roommates that play on his account. So there's that variance.
Also, are they counting lapsed subscriptions? They hold accounts for what, 6 months? A year? Right off the top of my head, I don't know, but I'd be willing to bet these accounts as well as free trial accounts are/could be counted as well.
And then there's farmers... How many accounts with how many macrobots farming how much gold?
I would not and am not calling Blizzard liars. I'm merely pointing out the fact that any set of numbers can be skewed into a favorable light, and any company that is not a non-profit will do so if it benefits them in the public relations department.

Good, I hope that means they can afford to finish making it
Since when is a game that sells well automaticly a good game?
Oh wait, people always use that argument to prove that WoW is good....
Ok, nevermind.

OK
Right now Vanguard is: (no I am not linking these just type in the address and search for it lazy bum)
#56 on Amazon video game sales

not that it matters.. but if it was selling extremely well they would have a soe press release..
you know like the wow 1 days sales of 2.4 million boxes for TBC..
the suits arent gonna let great press like that go by.
Hate to say this but Amazon is not the only company selling this game you know.
For instance play.com

Incidentally, this http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/videogames/229575/ref=pd_ts_vg_nav/104-8751049-0695144 was the highest set of rankings I could find for Vanguard. It helps when you filter your search to only PC games. Still, the OP was off, at least as of today, in that Vanguard is ranked 6th.
Don't trust the number of characters list :P
Most of them are people doing this:
Infact outta 190k character 70k are level 1's : That leaves 120k and 80k arn't above level 10 :
So it really shows how many people are spamming characters, making ALT's and who arn't playing the game lol.
I say less than 100k people own the game.
