Funcom has released a new video for Age of Conan. The amazing terrain in this upcoming MMO is really shown off in this movie!

Errr... I hardly fail to understand why it gives you a hard on. It's on par with the current market landscape, nothing more. <shrug>

I disagree with you, but maybe i've not played the same games as you. Which games do you think match it?

The movie is nice, but I guess the big question is can you actually climb those mountains and go to those valleys?

Pretty much ignore anything this guy says.

anyway, it does look good for a MMORPG.

Allthough, I am so glad I am getting a new system cause wow are you gonna need a rig to play that.

The preliminary requirements dont seem to be that bad(so far) lower than i thought. We'll know better in a couple of months

True. But to get the game to look like that and be playable at the same time. I got a feeling itll take a pretty good rig. Luckally I'll have one in a cpl weeks hehe.

I suppose if I notice something different, it's that it looks darker then most mmo landscapes. Allot of mmo's sort of over do it with the bright, sparkly, fantasy landscapes. They just don't create the mood. I think it will be either horribly sluggish because the graphics are way overdone, or it might run really smooth since they're at least putting in the time and effort and it could be that extra time is going into optimizing the code and engine.

I am very much interested in playing AoC this year; however, I am growing more skeptical of this game with each new movie release.

The scenery is gorgeous.  Fine. We get it already.  I want to see a few dozen reporters play the game and battle each other.  Warhammer Online recently released such a video.  When I watched that I could instantly tell that the game works!  Functionality is not a minor achievement.

I understand that WAR has a bigger budget and staff but that is not the point.  AoC has been in production longer, has been significantly delayed twice, and now both games are scheduled to be released at the same time. My confidence level is much higher for WAR.

I think the most important feature for many of AoC’s fans is the player-skill based, siege combat.  Show us a video of a 15 vs 15 press event and then let us read the impressions of all those participants.  I want to hear that the interface and movement controls are smooth and intuitive.  I want to hear that 30 people can fight—particularly given a combat system where players have to manually aim their attacks—without show-stopping lag or crashes.  I want to hear that the classes are intriguing and most of all that the game is just FUN!

Believe me, I want to play this game and I want to be pleasantly surprised.  However, the lack of unscripted demonstration videos and multiple delays is very disconcerting.

Ah, finally someone who see's through my eye's. I want to see some PvP action video's, we got the landscape, its great, now show us the combat. What really attracted me to the game was the border kingdom PvP and crafting. Crafting well be amazing in this this game sense they state we dont have to "grind" to get that particular piece of armor we wanted. As you said, i personally am attracted to WAR as well because they showed some sweet descriptive video's on RvR and PvP.

Yeah, I've said the same thing for ages now on their forums, but they still don't get it!

What WAR is doing is ACE marketing! Mythic is a machine and they're showing everyone they have full control and will deliver no matter what.

I even said on FunCom's forums that their little NDA breaching  PvP movie captured by someone in the beta did more good than bad because it showed PvP instead of PvE / landscapes. Imagine if FunCom released an official PvP video. That would give people something to talk about, but no, right now it's all about graphics and DX10 which is something people are not impressed by anymore.

The graphics just start dieing out after 20 same exact videos, with thier landscapes and DX10. By the time they release the game the graphic's would'nt even be surpriseing anymore.

Gorgeous landscape yet again, i particularly like the atmospheric music in this short clip. For those of you who are impatient to see more - then sure lap up your WAR vids, yes they are good, but the release date for AoC has been set again for the end of October. Plenty of time, also factor in that when people watch a vid they soon forget it, im sure Funcom will be getting us more hyped up soon, when its ready for a big advertising push, right now its just teaser stuff at regular intervals. And its all appreciated!

FUNCOM releasing stuff like this makes me feel very nervous and concerned. As I said in another thread this kind of marketing does nothing to increase the confidence of potential players. It's time to give the "we have great graphics" marketing hype a rest. In fact this small footage does nothing to increase the appeal of the game. Whilst the graphics give a feel for the atmospherics, landscape and genre of the game, they are no better than those offered by Aion and Lord of the Rings etc, which looks to have even better graphics if you like the Lineage 2 style. It's time FUNCOM gave us some demos or videos on PVP, game play and border skirmishes or melees. Give us a feel for the way the game will be actually played.

It's also about time they announced when Open Beta Applications will start.

I love exploring in MMORPGs. Thus this video made me drool all over my keyboard.

I actually have only seen this once for Age of Conan when they passed through the valley that was incredible.  I have seen the combat and seige system in action.  It looks to work pretty good from the videos; much better then in other mmos.  I don't think they can honestly have that 30 vs 30 man siege like everyone wants until they are in closed beta testing.  Its a bit premature now.

I also am not too woried about the system specs.  Most of the lush lookness is really from deco layers and speedTree which don't really clog up the processor as much as typical static meshes which are used sparingly and are relatively low poly.  What I am worried about is the nemesis of all twitch based internet games, Lag.  Its obviously going to require an enormous amount of additional bandwidth then your typical mmo.  The lines in the US just aren't good enough to host a single US server branch.  It would need to be split West Coast/ East Coast sorta thing for sure; but funcom hasn't released any of thier plans yet.

P.S.  This is one of only two upcoming mmos that actually looks next-gen.  Huxley is the other one.

    Now that's world design.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Although I liked what I saw in that video, the video itself didn't last that long but it showed quite a nice scenery in Field of the Dead though from that video I wouldn't call it a field, more like a valley

So which current mmorpg have landscape that come even close to that?
  • MyskMysk Member Posts: 982
The scenery and music were great. I have not followed this game, but I am liking what I'm seeing.

Lots of folks are commenting on the DX10 stuff versus game play.  I completely agree, however, let me toss out a thought on this.

Vista just launched, and as far as I understand it - please correct me if I'm wrong - the XBox 360 will not have DirectX 10; it's a Vista-only thing.

I suspect that these videos are for the folks who have ordered Vista or who are considering it.  They're specifically labeled as DX10 videos, so it makes sense (to me) that they're intended to be hype for Vista's graphical potential more so than hype for AoC specifically.  The fact that they make AoC look so good is just icing on the cake.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right.  It's just a thought.

Anyway, I too would like some videos with real meat to them.

Great video with beautiful scenery and the snow covered area looks awesome, but just one question.  It's call the Field of the Dead..... I didn't see any bodies, or signs of death.  Come on Funcom.  Push this Mature thing in every way you can.  Death, Destruction, Decay.!!!
