Is there an mmoRPG out there?

Right we all know what an MMORPG is right? Massively Mulitplayer Online Role Playing Game.

Game designers - dont understand this

Game players - generally just play games and dont care as long as they can kill stuff

I am looking for an MMORPG.. He who finds one for me will be rewarded greatly.

Ok... now you are going to post the link to this site's homepage? They are not MMORPGs... For example I just noticed EVE online... I play that... its an MMO.. NOT an MMORPG.. there is no roleplaying in that game. Jokingly maybe.. But nothing serious.

You are missing 1 game however.. Planeshift  [OK NO LINK TO SATISIFY YOU! HUH?]

That is a good MMORPG! I came from there, but the people annoyed me... So I am now hunting again. For a game with RP like that... Which is actually good... Find me one.. and I will give you many many riches!

Thank you very much for your time and responses.

Try Roma Victor. It has quite a lot of room for roleplaying. Another one to consider is the Saga of Ryzom.

a strange suggestion, but give Second Life a chance as well.

I've played 3 games (and I have tried 50= altogether) that feature a lot of in-game RP - Ultima Online, Ryzom, and Shadowbane.

There's roleplaying in EVE, but it isn't widespread; it's mostly corporation based. Check out some of the corporations like Jericho Fraction. They have a pretty strict application process and an in-character interview, and everything they do in-game is based on their in-character ideology. If you're looking for an MMO where the default behavior of the playerbase is roleplaying, however, you're not going to find it. There was very little of that in the Everquest days, and there's even less of it now. Roleplaying has moved more and more towards guild/clique-based activity than public demonstration. It's unfortunate, but very few players these days have any experience with tabletop or online roleplaying, which really limits their tolerance for it. Additionally, as games like WoW get deeper market penetration, you get more and more people in the genre whose only previous experience with video games is action-oriented, which again dilutes the number of roleplayers you'll notice due to sheer weight of numbers.

If you're looking for lore that gives you fuel for roleplaying, however, you could try an older game like Asheron's Call (loaded to the brim with backstory and world information) or a newer one like Myst Online: URU Live (again, tons of lore, but not all that many people due to the fact that it's in semi-beta at the moment). Your only chance to find an online game that's 90-100% roleplaying now, though, is to go back to MUDs and MUSHes. Since they're developed by hobbyists rather than corporations, they can target their games to specific groups rather than targeting them to the largest money-making demographic. In the strictest of roleplaying MUDs, you have to fill out an application and have your character's history approved before you're even allowed in the game. As a result, everyone who's playing has a character that fits and an attitude to match. You're just not ever going to get that level of control in any game that begins with "Massively Mutliplayer."

My gf is a big roleplayer... she finders plenty of rp'ers in every game.

Course she also spends so much time doing it that she levels at the speed of a snail.

Oh, it wasn't my intent to say it doesn't exist in MMOs, just that it takes actual searching to find. You rarely just "stumble into" roleplay in any of the MMOs I've played. It almost always requires dedicated effort to locate. The one exception to that I've found was the old SWG, but even there you'd usually find the roleplaying was exclusive to cantinas, and typically interspersed with lots of non-rp activity. The way the original poster phrased his request, it sounded as though he were looking for a place where most of the players roleplayed most of the time, and I just don't think such a place exists outside MUDs, dedicated Neverwinter Nights shards, and other privately-operated, small-scale games. MMOs are all about generating profits, and roleplayers just aren't a large enough demographic to support them on their own (or haven't proven to be so far).

any sand box game is RPG as long as you stay ingame (no RL chat).  lets see: grudges, alliances,  fractions, intrque.

get off your high horse and realize that by playing in a sandbox game you are playing A ROLE.  just because its not going through a preconceived/predictable story line does not mean that you aren't role playing.

no one ever said role players had to be of average intelligence.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

well, then you dont know what roleplaying is. infact, EVE is the mmorpg where you can roleplay the most, since is the most open-ended one, and the game that gives you more tools and options as a player. if you cant roleplay there is your fault.

but some people just cant see roleplaying outside of elfs, dwarfs, magic projectiles and fire balls. very sad.

There is some RP in EVE as I believe I said.  But it is merely playing the game... No one really acts as if they are there themselves.. what im trying to say.. its not an immersive RP experience..

I know there are RP corps out there.. I am looking for an.. RPG! Where... get this... there are people... typing... words... not... "omg liek i just g0t pwnt by a n00b in an ibis lolz im t3h ub3r n00b"..... That is just plain depressing..

Anyway thank you those with Positive help.

If you want to help more I am looking for a game LIKE... Planeshift [this isnt an advertisement its to help with my problem ok people?] www.planeshift.it

I left that game due to community problems... If there is a game slightly similar to this with an RP community.. where noobs who speak leetly are crushed... Please thats what I want.. Otherwise.. Be quiet and dont post.. Thank you:)

There is no MMORPG out there. They all suck and you'll just continue coming to this board to bitch because all the MMORPG suck because they don't have an aspect you like.

    I'll second Ryzom.

I'm not a roleplayer myself but I ran into a lot of rp'ers there.

    To the OP:

You will never find what you are seeking. Even if the game is directly geared to the RP community, you will those who do not RP. It is the nature of the beast. As has been said, if you want that, return to MUDs. When dealing with MMORPGs, you have a mix of people looking for different experiences. One is not better than the other, and it is arrogant to consider what you look for more important than what others enjoy.
