Simple, if you don't like it, don't play it. Why is it so hard to comprehend this philosophy? Yes it has bugs, Yes it has problems. You either deal with it like many are doing, or you hit "cancel sub".

There's a problem with this philosophy though. Regardless of whether a person hits the 'cancel sub' button they're still out of $50 for the purchase since most stores will not allow you to return opened software. Maybe as a consumer you should know better and do your research on the company.

Even still this doesn't bypass the fact that the gaming community has allowed game makers to completely disregard their own ethical responsibility to the consumer to produce a product that isn't so highly bugged. Fine, Sigil banned an exploiter, it's within their rights to do so. But, what of the rights of the consumer to have a polished product for their hard earned money? Anyone that believes this game wasn't rushed to release with no regard to what flaws it possessed is fooling themselves.

Well, I guess it's not the companies to blame for the buggy games. Consumers only have themselves to blame for continually purchasing sub-par software. I'm happy I waited to see the response to the game instead of rushing out to buy it. Like someone else said, I'll wait until they've patched the game to a decent state and buy it for the cheaper price, or, do like I did with Matrix and download the trial and get it free by way of Station Access. I'm sure that was an exploit too...

It's been very well documented here and elsewhere that the game needs work. It's not being kept a secret, even Sigil admitted it was being released prematurely.

Sure all MMORPGs have bugs....but Vanguard suffered from having very few testers that actually could play the game and beta test..  The vast majority....very vast....downloaded the game (if they had room for that 10 ton elephant) and didn't get past level 1.  Their forums were full of people trying to find ways to just move in the game, with very little actual discussion of bugs.

Actually it was kinda hard to call something a bug when everything was bugged (except the trees, great looking trees), When you can't even move wo stuttering or finish a quest or even finish a conversation with an NPC wo crashing, it kinda puts a limit on the beta testing.

I had high hopes for this game and understand the realities of running out of time and just plain HAVING to get income, but there should be a limit to being understanding.

Every single person who paid $50 for that beautiful box with the expectation of enjoying a game and weren't able to should be able to a full refund.  Hell, if you paid $10 for a CD and there was ANYTHING wrong with it, you would return it.

When you buy a product or service and it doesn't work properly, you should get your money back...I see no reason why a game should be an exception.

You would get banned for doing this in ANY decent MMO.  EQ, EQ2, WoW, etc.  Any of them would ban you and rightfully so.

You defend exploits with amazing tenacity.  Sorry this isn't Diablo and no one finds exploits to be cute.  Move along.

No, is it possible you are going to keep your word and give up  Someone who condones exploiting is someone I don't want within 1000 miles of the game I play. Good luck with finding an MMO you like, sincerely.

Surely not MMO so full of bugs that every other quest is broken, and you die on regular basis due to bugs. But for certain game company that is AOK

But when the same quest bug makes you more experience than it is sopposed to , than you are a EXPLOITER!

    And are banned !

So if someone gains 25 levels in one day in the exact same location without reporting anything to a GM, they should be given a free pass?

Why not?  You want a free pass for releasing a buggy, incomplete game don't you?

This one's on Sigil, not the player. So what you are saying is, "If the game has 100 bugs, abusing those bugs for personal advantage is OK. If the game has 1 bug, abusing that bug for personal advantage is NOT OK.". Is that what you are saying?

The bugginess of the game is not in question here. What is in question is actions of an individual, why abuses something to get unfair advanatage. If he was not permabanned, then why should I report any bugs? Why cant I just try to use it with a chance it might go unnoticed? At worse, theyll just reset my level or remove my money or item.

I dont think you understand what exploiting means. They arent banning anyone for finding bugs. They are banning people for EXPLOITING bugs to level and/or farm coin etc. I really think you, like several others here, need to move on. There is quite obviously, and by your own admission, nothing for you here.

It's real simple. Sigil looks out for the best interest of the game. When they are able to fix a bug, they fix it. When they're able to make the game run smoother, they do it. When they find a player exploiting the system and feel it degrades the experiences of others, they ban him. Their actions protect their time and financial investments. What's so hard to comprehend about this? Are you really shocked that someone in an MMO was banned for cheating?

Every MMO has issues on release, just because Sigil is up front and acknowledges there are issues doesn't make VG worse than every other @launch MMO, it makes them unique.

Exploit in any online game and expect to get banned.

    so...

  • betheoopbetheoop Member Posts: 37
Good job sigil.  Exploiters should be banned forever.

That means the guy was probably aware of the bug during beta and did not report it.  He then exploited it.  NO MATTER THE STATE OF THE GAME.  You don't exploit.  You agree to it when going in game.

To the others saying it's sigil fault.  Nice one haters..... Do yourself a favor and go play your favorite game.

Good morning. Sorry, I posted this and went to bed. The Thread is gone (due to flaming I'm guessing), and was on a main Forum. I believe it's against the rules here to "promote" other Forums, but it's easy to figure out. Ok, now to go through and read this thread...

I don't believe there is a single MMORPG that hasn't had exploits pop up, especially in the early days, from which people were banned.

The good thing is they are catching them early, before the economy can be wrecked like it was in Anarchy Online.

    not very smart at all...

Or you could just manipulate the flow of data that is transferred between the client and the server, preferrably in a way that's beneficial to you.

Or you could just manipulate the data that is stored in the memory of your computer, preferrably in a way that's beneficial to you.

But hey! You knew that, right?

You can't manipulate the flow of data unless you control the ports to the computers that the data is traveling to and from. Data isn't something you can just change while it's being transfered over a line, signal, wire, etc. It has to be recieved, inputed, altered, and sent back out. In other words you can't use a hex editor to change information stored in the virtual memory because the only information stored in the visual memory only effects the cliet.

Yes i knew that but it's impossible. Unless you can speak 22,000 langauges. That would be the equivalent of having all the relative knowledge for decrypting packets of information manually.

The amount of stupid written in this thread has made my eyes bleed.

To the Sigil employee, thanks for confirming that t he ban occurred (screenshots were nice), pay no attention to the exploit supporters here and tell your bosses they did the right thing. Keep up the good work.

To the Vanguard haters here (who did not buy the game) - I don't care if you played from the beginning of beta, and I don't care if you decided not to play the game.  I play the game, I enjoy the game, most of the other people I'm playing with seem to enjoy the game.  We know about the bugs (they haven't been nearly as numerous or damaging as many of you claim).  Please, leave our forums, we understand your position, you've been quite clear.. go  back to whatever" perfect" game you enjoy .

To the Vanguard exploiters (and those who support them) - You are rulebreaking vermin.  You are the same people who used radar in DAOC and claimed it was no big deal.  You cannot justify your actions saying that the game has "XXX" number of bugs, so we have a right to exploit them.  Or we lost some experience, so we deserve to get it back. (quit you whining you crybabies).   Almost everyone knew the situation when they started playing, you don't like it, leave...(or don't start) but dont cheat.  The guy they nailed was level 38 in a few days...while i'm patiently working my way up to.. level 11.  If he was on my Pvp server he would have a huge advantage over me... and I'm really glad he's gone.

To the one idiot who keeps claiming you can't hack MMO's w/o the source code i assure you thats not the case.  Every game I've played has dealt with speedhacks, money cheats, radar and a host of other problems...and none of them came from stolen source code. If you understand the games packetflows, you can hack them.

To anyone still on the fence about playing Vanguard.  Please don't judge the entire game from the posts here and eslewhere.  I won't lie, it has bugs like folks say, and I completely understand if you'd rather wait a while to see if they are resolved and the game gains some traction.  But if you're bored and looking for new worlds to explore and interesting things to do... consider giving it a try. (but do bring a reasonable level of patience, and not expect anything close to perfection.)

How about you spend less time posting and more time fixing the fps lag in that pos game of yours?

VG isn't my cup of tea, but for you to treat a Sigil rep like shit, that's taking his time out to watch the community and see what they're saying, is just plain ludicrous.  Do you honestly think they do this for their health?  Jeez man, go back to "Learning to be Social 101", or just shoot yourself in the head and do Darwin proud.

It is not good for us -> You are playing bugged game, but you actually found a bug that is TO YOUR BENEFIT - Than we kick you

News Flash. You exploit you SHOULD  get banned. Yeah, the game is really buggy and they should have waited 2-3 months to release it. But you also dont have to buy it or play it right now.  Im glad they are banning people that exlpoit. Should they have waited to release the game? Yes, I think so. But SOE did exactly what alot of us non fanbois expected and rushed the game out.

Personally I dont like the game, and would not spend a dime on it. But no matter if the game has got lots of bugs or not, exploiters should be banned. Period.

LOL Cant believe how ignorant some people are. If you exploit you are banned!!!. Dont know any other languages so hope you know English. Every game I have tried had bugs and as far as i know nothing is perfect. If you think other games are perfect you havent played them or are lying. My hats off to Sigil for posting here and watching how things are going and peoples opinions. They have been working their heinys off fixing this game. Every knew it wasnt ready but I for one was very glad they went live with it. I am having an absolute blast playing. All my friends in eq2 wondering when Im coming back and I think only when the servers go down. So much fun being one of the first to see and experience this game. Showed the game to three people here at home and all three are playing now. They say its the best game they have ever played even with the bugs, and by the way we have all played WOW, EQ2, EQ1, and I have beta tested every thing i could get my hands on. Friend from out of state called and said his whole guild from EQ1 was moving to VG.  Got to say if you dont like the game thats fine we dont care. I play what I want and aint no body gonna change my mind on that. So if all you got is time to troll here then the game you like so much must not be that good. Yea Im playing on my other comp at this moment for all the guys getting ready to flame me for that statement. Get a life .
