Been playing for a week and this has been my experience thus far...
I am currently a lvl 8 druid trying to do this quest that is impossible to solo
Yet its impossible to get a group to do it
If I can only get past the lvl 10 mobs that surround the quest objective without dieing
Well, I died, so I run back to corpse but die along the way, soon I have three tombstones scattered about
Instead I just release corpse for a nice penalty.
/Log....
Return the next day, take a different approach, lvl 10 snake floating in the lake I was trying to traverse kills me.
Can't get my tombstone so I just release for a nice penalty.
I finally sneak by, (not really the fun way of sneaking, more irritating than anything)
The mobs I need to kill are lvl 7, wonderful.... lvl 7's surrounded by lvl 10's. (Who thought that would be a good idea?)
There is a huge difference between a lvl 7 mob and a lvl 10 mob in terms of difficulty but not in the XP department. Mobs two lvls higher than me give very little xp, they give about this much "| |" And I am lvl 8.
I patiently wait for the right time to pull the wisps. The mobs tracking is messed up. So instead of it coming straight for me it takes the scenic route and aggroes two more mobs. So I run... and run, and run, and run, and run and run, and run, and run, and run and run, and run, and run, and run and run, and run, and run, and run and run, and run, and run, and run....
into a pack of lvl 10 basilisks, I keep running, then some snakes hitch a ride, a couple river frogs hop on in, and to had kerosene to already a blazing fire this lvl 15 four dot purple, floating mob with lightning spinning around its head joins the chase. So now I think I gave the term TRAIN a new meaning.
I die....
I /log...
Some quests are just plain annoying. I need to kill 24 of these wisps, which are in groups of threes, so I can take their essence and repair four shrines. Sounds simple? Impossible to solo three lvl 7 blue wisps.
The players in general chat would tell you its easily soloable rather than joining with you and helping.
I have helped several people along the way to do quests in which I have already completed, without even a thank you.
Community would rather tell you to leave and play that "other" game if you dislike or don't understand something.
Crafting at the moment, since I have not done it much, only the noobie quests, seems to be another time sink that has you running around for that rare mat or from NPC to NPC
Classes. Well. I only know about the druid. But in my opinion he is more of a wizard in my eyes. Just having a couple Root spells doesn't constitute what a Druid is. His nukes are crazy, do heavy dmg and I have two direct damage spells already with and a DoT spell with a direct damage component. I can drop even lvl mobs before they get to me but anything higher is suicide. Which is fine but if I want to do insane direct spell damage wouldn't I play a sorc? a wiz?
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes $50.00
Gas spent driving to Best Buy $3.00
New stick of 1GB DDR Ram $100.00
Being chased by a train of level 10 basilisks, grass snakes, river frogs and the roaming level 15 purple+++....PRICELESS

Uhm no not really. Stuff like that happens all the time, just get over it or quit. You did quit right?
ok, I actually lol'd at one point in your story. Funny stuff.
Oh, and sorry the community is a bunch of know-it-all elitists or are too good for "that other game" and certainly too good to help someone out. Seriously. It's too bad someone didn't volunteer to assist you even if it meant their grind would be put on hold. The game should be about fun, and since it's a MMO, about meeting people and hanging out. It shouldn't be about how fast you can get to the top and look down on everyone with your omnipotence.
Maybe this is one of those times the devs screwed up or maybe it's just that you were in the wrong place, or maybe the wrong times. /shrug
so...
Your discription of events really made me laugh, very nice.
The quest your doing isn't really suited for you lvl I think. I know one of the shrines you have to repair is guarded by lvl 10 mobs. You may want to do another quest in the mean time.
Dude, don't quit. I know what your going through, the other day I spent an hour and a half trying to recover a tombstone I was bound and determined to get it back. I REFUSED to have the alter summon my earthly remains. Between the mobs and the bandit players that kept robing me of my hard earned coin I was having a blast. I don't really mind dying though. After retreiving all of my belongings I simply went abut earning back the money that was stolen from me and went on a pk fest.
If you happen to be on Theridon and need a hand just send Kijo a tell, if I'm not to busy I'll be happy to help you train those mobs on other people so they don't kill you.
The OP raises a point that I've started to notice - it seems pretty hard to get pick-up groups (certainly at lvls <10 - I haven't got above 8 yet).
I don't know whether this is because of a new community finding its feet, or what, but for a game that at least in the publics eyes if not the developer is supposed to be focused more on the group aspects rather than solo it seems a little worrying that its difficult to get in a group in the first place. Yes I know guilds offer some sort of mechanism for getting groups, but I'm not too keen on joining a guild with a newbie toon.
Hopefully things will improve in this regard.
If this is the attitude shared among the majority in this game, then you should be saying the opposite. Because a game is funner with a bigger community, driving players away with that kind of attitude and non sense is what kills a game.
Find it too tough, quit! we dont want your kind here. Nice, very nice. If you enjoy empty servers, then please, encourage that kind of thinking in the game. He didint say he wasint havint any fun did he? He was saying he was frustrated.
And to the OP, just do a bunch of lower quests, gain a few more levels and you will have less trouble. Im always stuborn and wanna complete quests that are sometimes too difficult, resulting in me wasting time. So hopefully you get some help, and keep at it!
your story is funny , am a solo player in every mmo i play , all group to help other people but thats about it ,if your trying to do a quest and the mobs are to tough go level up on something else why beat your head against the wall lol
And the quest you are talking about i just did it yesterday on my level 9 ranger solo and like you i just sit and wait for the right time to pull and i had no problems whatsoever , never pulled more than one once , and ya that lev 15 mob got me once to , but now that i know he is there i watch for him . I see him all the time no big deal now that i know he is there plus theres some black panther thing around there thats pretty nasty makes it alot more fun for me , go figure
crafting is sweet Lhex you can pull in some fairly decent coin doing work orders by level 6 i had 1 gold and now at level 10 i have 3 gold but am a level 16 blacksmith now
And community well i can only speak for the role playing server and i find it great , theres no talk about wow or any crap . make a toon on that server my character is Soliss Emberstrike and all help you anytime cause thats what i find fun ,well that and getting rich lol
It's hard to get groups at 10 levels because, truth be told, all those quests are soloable. That changes somewhat above level 10, as does soloing. I am now level 16 sorcerer and I find I can mop the floor with most level 18-19 mobs. Three levels higher - something impossible to do at level 8. So the level difference, depending on the class, is much less important once you pass levels 12-14.
My advice is also not to give up. Simply play carefully, do not go alone into places you can't get back out of easily. It's easier for classes who got invisibility because we can practically run through the entire dungeon to pick up our corpse at the bottom surrounded with an army of mobs and not break invis. Very handy. If you are having real trouble getting your corpses, always remember to ask a sorcerer to make you invisible, if one is around and willing.
Anyway, it seems to me the game is perfectly soloable at 10 especially if you can snare. Just avoid multiple mob fights and anything higher level than you. If you can't do that group quest, level up two levels and in turn mop the floor with the mobs.
Soloing in this game is much harder than usual not because you can't find quests you can solo but because you need to stay alert all the time. Running away is definitely harder to do if you mess something up. Usually one mistake is enough to send you to a fast trip to the altar.
I was responsible for a right train wreck at the Arcanium last night
You talking about the quest in CB about the four shrine? well i soloed that quest at about lvl 8 - 9 (think got a lvl while doing it) and the wisp were quite easy to take on, and no they dont come in pack of 3, you just have to be carefull what you are doing. oh and btw i had no troubles taking on 2 at the same time but maybe thats cause im a ranger.

Too bad that's not true. Level 7 mobs aren't going to be surrounded by level 10 mobs.
There may be level 10 mobs NEAR level 7 mobs, but that's it. Prove me wrong, show me level 10 mobs surrounding level 7 mobs.
Nice attempt at spreading more lies though Jackdog.

which part of the last line in this quote do you have trouble understanding Blurr? I am not playing this sad little excuse of a game so I cannot verify whether the OP is exaggerating or not. However I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt since other posters have posted about the same quest in this thread

Accually Jack, I soloed the quest with the same class at the same lvl as well, it's a little tougher at lvl 8 but it's doable for a druid.
The mobs hes talking about are and around a lake near were the quest is at. If you go around the lake youll find some lvl 10 mobs but they are spread out enough that you can avoid them, and thus get to the quest mobs without having to fight off a bunch of lvl 10 mobs in the process.
For someone not playing the game you sure do have an awfull lot to say about it, but since you're not playing I'll take it that everything you have to say is complete BS that you rip straight from your rear in an attempt to turn people off of VG because as we all know LoTR will ship entirely bug free and more polished them some MMO's that have been out for 2+ years.
How about you play the game some and then you can be constructive in your critisism and your opinion will have some weight.
you don't have to ride the train to enjoy the wreck, I beta tested this turkey for 4 months

Funny thing is all the stuff he says is so completely bullshit anyways. He makes all these claims and then when someone calls him on it he changes the topic.
And by "Beta tested" he means "Ran around looking for things he can take screenshots of to bash the game". He actually took a screenshot and tried to bash the game because he didn't like the look of a rock in the background.
As far as the original topic, I'd say part of the game is learning how to accomplish your goals without having them handed to you on a silver platter. It's not an "ez mode" game as some people like to say about other games. Fariic managed to complete the quest so it's doable.

1) If you're on my server, the RP one, I'd be happy to help you! I'm a LVL 9 WE Ranger and right there
2) If you're a Wood Elf (as I believe you are) why didn't you use your Racial Ability to turn into a wolf and escape? That's EXACTLY how I got away from my "Train"...
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!
Guys... don't feed the trolls. Blast them with Flame Spear + Char combo!
If any areas have been thoroughly done concerning mob placement, it's the starter areas. I feel sorry that the OP had to go through all that frustration, but it is far more likely that this is a case of bad playing than of poor mob placement. It is quite understandable since the game is new and people are still learning the ropes. As I said, you can't easily walk away from a fight in Vanguard as you can in some other games.
So, watch out, time your pulls and you'll be fine.
Although it could be i play on Felendryl RP server that i'm meeting nice people who actually wanna help each other. I can see how it might be a different demographic on a FFA PVP.
Only problem i have with people on my server is no one knows how to use the OOC channel lol, AND the occasional WoW troll who pops on to tell us how much he hates the game.
But yea our post was hilarious and i am sorry you've met douchballs but there is a great community you just have to know where to look.
