I saw the other post about this on the Current SWG Players page here at mmorpg.com but I figured he was just making things up.  So is this really true?

It is with heavy heart that that I bring this to you all. After 3 plus years Star Wars Galaxies is finished. Low subscriptions and low server population have prompted SOE to close the door on the SWG project once and for all.

The servers will begin shutting down today starting with Bria, sorry guys first one in, first one out. This process will take approximately one week.

All accounts paid beyond that will be reimbursed.

Thanks for all the memories, and I will truly miss you all.

I haven't played SWG in a long time, nor have I followed the game very much.  I do know that such a major decision would be announced before the day it happens.  EnB gave more than a six month warning.  I just can't see this post being true.

It's a hoax, and the longer people believe it, the stupider they become. Think about it from a business standpoint. Shareholders would be notified months in advance so they can pull out of SOE's sharebase, or reinvest.

Aye it's a proven hoax that got a little stir.  The shareholders would have gotten the same notice the players did about the NGE months in advance.

My favorite troll thread of all time on the SWG forums was the 1 year NGE thread that got about 400 replys in about 40 minutes. Got a 2 week bad that day.

Exactly.  It'd be nice if the post was true.  I'd love to see the game just shut down, and if it died without dignity, at least we would know that we were right, that the CU/NGE was the beginning of the end.

We don't need to see the game go down without dignity to know we're right. We should all know that we're right. Gaming sites know we're right, critics know we're right, and we the players know we're right. The SWG devs can live in that fantasy world they call their offices and think whatever they want, but the truth is that they sold their figurative souls to try to get a larger fan base, but all they accoplished was chasing away the loyal and longtime vets.

Thats the part that makes it obviously false. They gave the Japanese servers about 3 months notice before shut down.

Who's to say they shareholders didnt get notice and they are choosing (in coalition with SoE) to keep quiet about it so people keep subscribing until the shutdown day...

Speaking of dumb things... yeah, they always tell the shareholders of bad news before it is made public. That's called INSIDER TRADING. It's highly illegal. Look it up.

Same old hoax that has been done dozens of times since the launch of the game LMAO, but I do understand why people do still play the hoax, especially when so many people will still fall for it, must be why everyone in this forum continued to eat bull shit for so many years of game play and paying a monthly fee LMAO. Bring it on down now.

I find this funny. Bobbyjr says the world is getting dumber. Yet he also says "stupider."

An announcement of SWG's demise would be an effort to KEEP shareholders of the parent company from selling.

If I owned stock in Sony .... and let me pause here to thank my personal deities that this has never been the case ... I'd be thrilled at news that they'd cut away the festering financial canker that is SWG.  There's probably no single move SOE could make that would have a more positive effect on shareholder confidence.

Given a choice between SWG remaining through all of 2007 and shutting down, I'd bet my money on shutting down.

Uh huh.  Just like you said in 2005.  And 2006.

Keep saying that, and maybe...just maybe in the next year or two you'll get it right.  Then you'll come back here and say "SEE?!? I TOLD YOU!!! I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG!!!".  Then all the other little preCUftwlolzer 'tards can come in and kiss your feet.

SWG may shutdown in 2007.  But it won't be from low sub numbers or SOE 'admitting they were wrong' or anything of that sort.  It will be because of 'normal' contractural reasons.  Not because of emu servers.  Not because of preCUftwlolzer 'tards.  Not because of some petition.  Not all MMO's last forever.  Not all games end up the way you want it.

You know who knows when SWG will be shut down?

Noone but the high rollers at SOE and LA.  And they aint talkin'.

Everything else is worthless hyperbole by a bunch of forum warriors that THINK they know what the public wants and what would be a mass seller.
