Recently i've been thinking about 5 or 10 years from now where will MMORPG's be? Will they have extremely superb graphics making even everquest 2 looking bad? Perhaps... But if technology increased tremendously in mmorpg's this is what i think will happen, or at least should happen....
Virtual Reality- Imagine yourself placing 3d goggles over your eyes. Before you know it, your connected in a massive world with your friends. Your walking around a huge bustling city of other players. Theres no keyboard for walking, no mouse for looking, simply moving around in the game as you would in real life. If MMORPG's are supposed to look and feel like your in a new world, there's no better way to do it than in Virtual Reality.
Call this idea silly, but in 10-15 years this idea could definitley be a possibility.

Pssh, stole my idea, I always thought about virtual reality with MMORPG's, that would be so amazing, it would make all the old MMORPG's in my opinion obsolete. I would never put down an MMO, being able to swing a sword, or shoot an arrow, or virtually doing it, would be amazing. I would love it. We will see what happens in 5 or 10 years .

I'd say 5-10 years from now?...won't have this idea as an mmorpg. This is an issue i have with people and technology...
Like before the whole 2000 future idea was "oh we are gonna have cars flying around, itll be like star wars and we will be living on the moon!" ha I see this has not happened yet,
I don't know maybe its just me, but I don't see that technology is really advancing as much as some people say it is, ya we go from atari and nintendo gaming systems to playing online games via Ps2 or Xbox and computers are becoming better and better each day, but these ideas...Id have to raise the years to actually I don't know, yes I agree sometime in the future it will probablly happen, but that short span of time, no...
Watch tomorrow all the cars get a lil device put in them and they are all flying...
heh, with my luck that would happen and we would have virtual reality and all and ...
Ill shutup now!
EDIT: alright i forgot to actually put in here...that it would be awesome to have virtual reality as an mmorpg!! ...oh wow would that be weird though? could they make it that advanced where just by starting the game your brain would have the knowledge of how to swing a sword correctly or short a bow properly to hit a monster between the eyes?...or would we all be noobs untill we took 10 year classes on these skills in RL! lol wow that would be funny to watch, but this would also get the adults of todays generations off of the kids backs about how they are all overweight and all..cause the kids would have to WORK to have fun! haha

Sounds like .hack.
While a completely "immersive" game is definatley in our future, it is extremely hard to predict when. There are many hurdles that need to be overcome before any of this can happen.
Remember Visual Boy? It was a nintendo system that you would wear on your head. Of course, it wasn't 3D, so it lacked the immersiveness that is currently being striven for. But back to the point, the thing would cause major headaches after only brief gameplay. There have been a few tech demos by console companies since, but none have been able to fix the whole headache problem, and thus nothing new has been released, and little effort has been put into the technology.
The other biggest problem I would say is the toll this would take on your system. Most games only show about a twelvth of the environment around you on the screen (90 degrees side-to-side, 120 degrees up-down). Such a system would require about 3 times more power (180 degrees side-to-side, at least 150 up-down).
Of course, complete virtual reality is every developer's and gamer's dream, but whether it will happen within the next decade, or even the next 50 years is pretty much unpredictable.
