Almost ready to lay down the green...

in Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
I played Vanguard during the last phase of beta, and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the gameplay.  Everything from the exciting adventuring, deep crafting, and catchy diplomacy I found very appealing.  The only problem that I have/had was that I found it to be rather buggy.  I know that is what to expect from a beta, but I am concerned because it was so close to release.  It seemed that there was a lot of work to be done yet.



Some people say, however, that Sigil made leaps and bounds between when the last beta phase ended, and the game itself released.  Others say otherwise.  I have found that many of the naysayers border on being anti-vanguard/SOE zealots, so I am trying to keep that in mind when I read what they have to say.



My reason for posting this is that I'm looking for a certain group of people or person's point of view on the game.  A certain slant regarding MMOs that I think closes mirrors mine.  Here's what I'm looking for:

  • I played Everquest for almost 5 years, pretty much exclusively on the Test Server.  I liked it there because the player base seemed to contain fewer "LOLOMGFARTBBQCHUCKNORRIS" fools, per capita.  There were a few, but that's why God invented /ignore.  Although, in all fairness, I had a good laugh at a few of the Chuck Norris jokes.
  • I played Asheron's Call on and off for 2 years or so, switching back and forth between that and EQ.  I played on the Darktide server.  I love PvP.  To me, it gives me a reason to play.  Although I enjoy a good group (note the word "good"), I find that I am more driven to gain levels and get better gear to, pardon my retard, pwn other players, than simply farm gear to kill better monsters to farm better gear to kill better monsters...
  • I played SWG at release, and was a Droid Engineer.  I love crafting.  Thankfully, I had left the game for Planetside before they completely destroyed it.  But I digress... Crafting appeals to me in a number of ways.  I don't think it should be something to max out just for the sake of saying you've maxed it (ala WoW).  There should actually be significant rewards, and a good reason to invest a lot of time in building up your skills, learning new recipes, etc.
  • I played WoW, and I had a lot of fun.  That's what that game is about, to me.  It's not about hitting level 60, or 70 as the case is now, and spending countless hours raiding countless instances to get countless purple items.  I never got a character to level 60, but I played from beta up until about 3 or 4 months ago.  Basically, I got tired of having my hand held, and doing the same "Go kill boars, collect boar meat, bring meat to me" quest that I had been doing since level 1.
If you, after reading that garbage up there, find that your opinions match on one, or all, then go ahead and toss me a post about what you think of the game since release.  I'd love to hear what people are saying about it. 



Don't worry about inundating me with bug reports.  I played on the Test Server for 5 years.  I know how to live with them.  =P

    Sigil has made leaps and bounds and continues to do so even after the game has released. Some argue that it is still in a Beta stage, but after playing Beta, I found that the game was ready enough to be released and am thankful that is did. I can play the game and enjoy it just fine and so can many others. Sigil will continue to pour their hearts into this project and expect it to be really polished a few months from now.



    Overall, I've had no bad encounters with the game. Sure performance and a few bugs here and there, but I don't dwell on those small issues like some people do.



    I'd give it a go for the purchase. If you have anything specific in mind that you want to know about the game, shoot me over an instant messege.

    What have you spent most of your time in game doing, Ethanael?  I'm really intrigued by the depth of their crafting.  Have you taken any cracks at that, yet?

    It sounds like you will like the game. Its just the whole SOE thing. Also combat is poop. But everything else is great

    What makes you say that combat is poop?  I mean, it can't be any worse than 99% of the other MMOs out there with the whole autoattack bit.  From what I experienced in the beta, there were at least counters and chains and the like.  They didn't dumb it down, did they?

    DONT. This game has severe issues! oh man its a broke ass game... Try end game wow its here where the fun is at, you just gotta have a good guild backing u and doing bgs and raid. Hook me up at Tichondrius server and i ll get u started :D

    Well, maybe if you could enlighten me as to some of these issues, that'd be great.  I'd be interested to hear what I'm about to get myself in to.  But, as far as WoW goes, I'm pretty much 100% done with her.  I've been clean for almost 4 months now, and don't plan on relapsing.
