AricBAricB Member Posts: 158

I was playing Vanguard and it reminded me of WOW in so many ways. Why did they copy WOW in so many ways like that?

    Bad goon! BAD!

Wow just did what all mmo's do,  Vanguard is doing the same except thing with a different look, I take it you didn't work to far into VG though.

Surely by now you've heard the old saying "wow just copied what made mmo's good", if not you just did.

What was it that was like WoW?  Was it any of the following?

Crafting gear and selling it to other players

    Doing quests

    Casting spells, buffs and heals

Putting your attacks in a hotbar to use more easily

    Riding a horse

    Talking to NPC's

    Gaining levels

    Eating food

    Opening doors

    Dancing

Grouping with others to take on tougher guys

    Dying

Last I checked... you could do these things in most MMO's.

    It was probally the chatting.

Wow invented the internet and chatting, it also invented the art of usig fire to cook food.

I heard WoW invented harvesting, dynamic lighting and the ability to have multiple bags.
  • RuffyDRuffyD Member Posts: 23

A lot of games allows the use of multiple bags and harvesting was in EQ2 and that was released before WoW, no?

    That was sarcasm... sigh.
  • AstropuyoAstropuyo Member RarePosts: 2,178

    Did you know (?):

    1. Before wow, all the internet was used for was porn/music/whining on forums about stuff nobody cared about?
    2. Before wow, the internet was a waste land of only 2 gigs of space? With wow the internet almost exploded (some say imploded) so blizzard donated 20 gigs of space in order for the internet to live.
    3. True fact: Wow really was the first mmo ever, you just didn't know it.

See with time displacement 2003 (Dev time) can become 1846! You had no idea did you?

    Thats how smooth blizzard is..

I can't see how someone would take that remotely seriously.

It hurt my brain, though I admit that is easy done.

I had this long drawn out rant but I think I'll give ya the simple version.

Name a feature in World of Warcraft, and one of us will tell you what MMORPG Blizzard stole it from.

WoW is a refinement of the genre; just as Vanguard is trying to be. I hate to break this to ya but its an old title. WoW is a generation old and to top that off it has nothing that hasn't been ripped from other titles. Like I said its a refinement. Vanguard is at least offering us new refinements in combat and world size and depth that will be used in the next generation of titles. Probably when Blizzard releases their next go at MMOs .

    Say it aint so :(

What about orcs?! Surely wow made those and everyone like J.R.R and and those crazy norse copied wow.

    TIME DISPLACEMENT PEOPLE!

WoW? I played it and felt it was more like EQ2, anyway at least it doesn't look like a cartoon like WoW, that alone attracted millions of 12 year olds. WoW was alright but the player base was rather immature and young.

Come now lets get real here.

This reality that we call "life" is in fact a simulation createde by Blizzard. We are simply pawns in the computer controled world that Blizzard created. Everything in fact was created by blizzard. Blizzard after all can be translated to "God" or "The All Father" in many many languages. This is in fact and I know some of you won't believe me, a beta stage of this simualtion and we are due to be wipped out of their data base in a few more years.

Ahh blizzard is the "god" that explains how diablo 2 sold so many copies or how those crazy asian countries still play ole star craft.

    Wait though!

A Hole have I found, If blizzard is god explain how it is that my epic sneakers are only +12 to hip and -4 to functionality.

Because Blizzard isn't perfect and if they would have created a perfect world our feeble human minds wouldn't except it.

Sometimes.. it just boggles the mind.  I swear some people think that if it's written on the internet , it's automatically true.

    Lets try something...

Blizzard has announced a new MMO based on the Starcraft franchise.  While little is known of the projects current progress or release date, the following has been confirmed.  The new game will seamlessly interact with another Blizzard published title. Owners of both the World of Warcraft and Starcraft will be able to merge both games together.  This will, in effect, open up new off world quest lines and space travel in World of Warcraft.  Crafters in World of Warcraft will be able to create player owned space ships and environmental suits.  Timeline of the new game will be just prior to the Starcraft Brood Wars.  Zerg will be a new player race option.

Now... lets see how long it takes for that one to take off.

Lats you check did the games you play copy the other game in such a way that you could not tell which is which? If you are about to go into combat  on one of the games you would not know which one your playing if not for the title. I mean the way the cool down timer works the hot bar,  the way you sell stuff the very same set up I mean I could understand it if the copied it it and put your own twist to it but they copied it and did not change a dam thing. The way that the npcs give out quest on the lil brown paper is the same as wow and the way the lil meter fills up when you use a spell power. I play alot of MMOS and not all them have crafting, crafters and tailors in them and the ones that do, do it diffrent from the others ones in a way that you can tell which is which and not use the same blue print all the way to the dam color of the thing.

Hey I have no problem with it I was just wondering why was it able to do that because someone in the SWG fourms told me that games could not do that so I was just wondering is all but there are some diffrent things in Vanguard but some of the same also.

Dude bottom line, nobody is copying wow, WoW took the elements of mmo's and converted them for a large scale audience.

If anything the 2nd gen -3rd gen are copying 1st gen like merdian and eq (Could say UO in some cases) and alot of DAOC which of course copied eq~

You see mmo's copy eachother mainly because all points are the same.

Quests can all be cut down to A to B to C,

Stats can also be the same in measure.

It's all the same, just a different look really.

Welcome to other mmo's aside from wow mate.
