WOW and RP? lol?

I played over a dozen of different MMORPGs, like Starwars: Galaxies, Everquest 2, Auto Assault, EVE and so on. So I tried in WoW in hope, that the community is not as bad, as everone says.

I created a character on a RP-PvE-Realm to have some fun. After I logged in, the first players came and wanted to duel me. I was level 1 and I told them in the spatial channel, that they are looking to dangerous to me I do not want to fight them (I looked for a RP excusion not to duel them (I hate pvp)). After that, one these strange guys told me via tell, that he wants to fight me NOW! I whispered that I am not a fan of PvP and I just want to have some fun with RP. And what does he do? This bastard told me, that I should go to hell with my RP.

Hello? This is a RP-PvE-Realm! I hate PvP and I just wanted to do quest, develop my character and do some nice RP. But there was no RP at all. I found no one I could invite to a small RP session and I could not finish any quests in dungeons, because every - and I realy mean EVERY - group sucked! In the first one the leader and two of his guild members went offline in the middle of the cave, because they finished all their quests and let the rest of group in the middle of the cave. In the second group, I looted several items, nothing special by the way, in a row and one guy said in a very unfriendly way that I use a tool which pimps my dice rolls.

I had to cancel my account after 14 days of playing and after 12 harrasments in this period. Did you ever experienced RP or a nice player in WoW?

Yes, but should try PVP servers. I tried RP servers but most of the time, people don't know how to RP. They use the global chat when they are bored just to annoy people who say back : "This is not RP, stfu noob !!!" or something like that.

They released RP PVP servers later in Europe. And if you can level up with one or two people who play just to enjoy the game, you will have nice RP/PVP moments... big fun. If you hit 60, just make one alt or two, end-game sucks big time.

/ignore is your friend. Seriously Blizzard needs to expand the ignore list from 30 people to 500 people. I tried petitioning Blizzard to expand the ignore list and I always get ignored. image

Yea, RP attempts in WoW are a bad idea. From what I have seen of the WoW "community", I can only guess they have learned their interpersonal relations skills from middle school and the xbox.

I have played a ton of games of every type, no game has ever come as close to an FPS crowd as WoW. When you get "ORLY" and "lrn2play" and "noob" spam in UT, it's kind of expected..I'm concerned for whatever game manages to attract a large percentage of the WoW playerbase.

Oh yea: RP servers in WoW are the worst, 80% of the players joined an RP server to grief people for wanting to RP.

I think the RP varies widely from server to server.  Never have I experienced that level of asshattery on any of the 5 RP servers I've tried.  Granted, most people don't actively roleplay even on those but the communities were decidedly less mind-numbing than the ancient PVE server I've been on for years.  (raid raid raid omg epix lol)

I'd suggest a newer RP-PVP server (like Twisting Nether or The Venture Co) for anyone looking for decent roleplay who doesn't mind the excitement of PVP thrown in.  Great folks there.

RP in WOW is truely a galctic joke. There are of course people that try and RP but for the most part its a recreational side bar to lvl and item grinding at best. Most RP guilds dont actually RP and the majority of the players are there to grief the few that do. I believe that this is largely due to the fact that WOW for all its attempts to be anything other than, is a childs game. It is literally something anyone ages 6-100 could pick up and play for awhile with little or no learning curve. And so many people play it atm because it is literally the only thing out there thats even remotely decent. But I have faith, as I am desperately croosing my fingers in hope that Age of Conan and Warhammer offer us all a better place to be.

As am I, but no peace for the homeless I'm afraid. WoW kiddies can smell fear and WILL follow to what ever is hyped as 'The Game To Play'. image

Sadly my short 2 or 3 week run in WoW was very very similar.

The best RP game i played was EQ1, maybe it was my Guild, or the server in general, but it wasn't even the RP server and we regularly had people playing in character and just were generally helpful to others.

Sadly, Eq has changed a bit and become a powerup game, not the fun and leisurely game I played for 5+ years

You know, there are mainly... you know the term "neostrada children" (it's Polish term). Fathers buy them net for birthday... this word is very good for them.

Gee...I dont know...maybe if you dont like PVP...you shoukld have not created a haracter on a PVP server? That would have been a smart thing to do. If you're on a PVP server you just expect to not have any one ever duel you ever? and personally I love the WoW community. Aside from the occasional spammer in the big cities which is to be expected I have had a great time on my RP/PVP server...both of them Emerald Dream and Maelstrom have great communities. I am also a role player, but I love PVP too which is why i selected those servers. YOu should have created on a PvE or simple RP server maybe you would have had a better experience

Maybe you just picked a bad server. If you really want to RP read the forums and find one that has some guilds that seem active. There ARE nice people in wow and people who can RP.

I found both, but they were much, much rarer than in other MMORPGs. I originally joined WoW because I read the description and rules of the RP servers, and mistakenly expected Blizzard to uphold them. The RP consisted of a few spontaneous encounters , and the friendly people were so few, I can still remember all their names a year later.

If you're looking for roleplaying and a friendly community, you made the right move by dropping WoW. I toughed it out until level 60, hoping to find the same thing you were, and never did.

i tried RP in Wow...big mistake, most of the people seemed to not get what it meant for a start.

In saying that on my normal PVE server im in a friendly helpful guild, most people are corteous and helpful (sp sry), and its generally a pleasant place to be,  i dont know if its because its a european server or not, but we dont seem to have lil kids running around spoiling things...and when a noob trains a huge mob, they usually get pulled up for it and learn from the mistake...i guess ive just been really lucky.

Best RP i ever experienced is still the pen and paper type...

I wouldnt say the community sucks, but since the average mentality in the game is 12 y.o. it feels more like Romper Room than an MMO.

    Then you should play http://www.argentumonline.com.ar/

    If you speak spanish... :)

They have some problems with RP but its more massive than WoW.

I play WoW and i agree ... THIER ARE SO MANY NONE RPERS ON RP REALMS! But i put up with it.. As i always say you need to know the right group of people... Moonglade is not too bad for RP and the new Darkmoon Faire is doing pretty well... Others i can not say for if you find someone who want s to duel you and does not rp and you do rp then just /ignore or just tell him to go away... It happens all the time.. With most MMORPG's you just need to be patient ... I hoped for a saviour from the noob comments for ages then i finally decided, WHAT AM I DOING!, So i made my clan from my old rp clan that ended up bad I have around 20 of the few horde RPers left in WoW and when TBC comes horde RP will die... Elves coming to Horde BIG MISTAKE FOR RP!

well PvP is just awsome, i dont see the point of playing an MMO for RP, RP would be more fun with like a long story line, like Zelda or something

Bah! Bah, I say! Come to Steamwheedle Cartel. We've got an excellent RP community and guilds.

I have never tried RP in WoW but I can imagine that it is impossible. Not because it is a bad game, but because there are no enforced RP rules on RP servers and then you always got some odd thousand out of a million who like to piss RPers off.

RP demands enforced rules and Blizzard don't keep that much mods on one server 24/7 to monitor that. Don't know any mmorpg that does. Neverwinter Nights 1 persistant world dedicated servers were the closest to great online RP I've tried so far.
  • TehWarsmithTehWarsmith Member Posts: 19
Yep. No enforced rules. Blizzard doesn't give a damn about us. There are very few roleplayers compared to non-roleplayers. Plenty of people who enjoy annoying us.

And yet we keep on going and having a blast. What does that tell you?

Wow is now out for a long time and at start ppl used to be freindly but after getting spammed by 1.000.000.000 NOOBZ, AND THE FACT that EVERY SINGLE QUESTION is answered 100.000.000 times online in web , we feel like noobs are only lame players who want everything served without any effort in front of them.

Fact is its an rpg in case of that everybody has its own role in a battle group.

fact is also that wow ofers great ammounts of dungeons and raids which can be finished successfully only with 5-40 ppl playing harmonic with each other being able to use their char AT LET LV 100%

Althought i have only a lv 70 Char (Hunter) EVERYBODY in a raid is not only aware of his own role but as well as any other, you know the do and donts.

I can only tell the only way to gt sick of wow is to spend at leas  1 month playtime on it ^^

I too shall be brought down by death. but until then let me win glory.

I am an avid rp'er , will always be to an extent regardless of how gooney my friends think it.

I started on silver hand during release, Rp was sub par. What do you expect it's wow.

Went to shadow council, and the rp was semi decent. Still it wasn't rp in the sense of how I feel rp was.

I gave the $$@^#@ up and moved to malfurion so I could play with my friends, rp is about as dead in wow as anna nicole smith.
