I cant stand WOW , worse game i ever played by far.  I really dont see anything in vanguard that reminds me of  WOW or i wouldnt be playing it .The way you sell stuff ? they have a broker it is alot like the action house but from what i understand i will be able to have my own merchant selling my stuff at my house , if i can ever get one that is lol.  Quests are quests there the same in any mmo ive ever played .

Because WoW stole that quest system from EQ2.  The combat is a mixture of WoW and EQ2 as well.  And before you say it after the faction UI comes out, no they didn't steal the faction system from WoW.  Most games, WoW included took the faction system from EQ1.

I'm not quite following how WoW stole their quest system from Eq2 when quest chains have been around long before either game.

Its like many others have said, They took what worked and refined it.  Many upcoming titles will do the same in the future.

Well the skill set up is straight from WOW, and I really don’t like that. I mean in EQ2 your skill level can be, apprentice, adept and master skill so not two Rangers are alike in skill ability. In Vanguard and WOW a 10 level ranger has all the same skill levels after they have bought them, only stats and equipment make them unique while EQ2 has that extra uniquieness.

Wow, the stuff you mentioned is common elements found in all mmorpgs, what a ridiculous post. With people like you I really have to wonder if there anything up top?

    So to summarize all this...

1.The folks over at Sigil decided to make their life easier, and go with an interface that is basic, and simple to use. Much like the one in WoW. Can you blame them, why make it difficult.

2.It will all come down to game play in the end. You can have the best hollywood graphics, and some REALLY cool features in the game. But if you can only keep people interested for the first week they play, then whats the point.

3.All MMO's take the basic ideas and concepts and try to put them into the games. There is no "stealing" when it comes to this. There is no copyrighting an idea and saying "Hey that's ours we thought of it first" Just because you did it first, doesnt mean that you will do it the best, or be the last.

4.VG:SoH will probably never be as big as WoW. Not due to the fact that WoW is a better game. More so, because to play VG you need to have a computer bigger then a 486 to play it. I don't by any means have a super fast PC. It's a 3.2Ghz P4, 2GB DDR 3200, and a GF-5900 Ultra card. And it runs on the lowest of the graphic settings. Only really lagging when I get into the cities. I'm sure this could be fixed with a video card upgrade. But, I could probably run 6 instances of WoW on my machine vs. the 1 instance of VG. Once the technology catches up a bit with this game, it may take off even more then what it already has.

All games appeal to people in different ways for different reasons. Why you would spend time coming onto a message board to complain, or pick on something that you don't understand is beyond me. It's not like VG and WoW are clones of one another. They are very different games, that will attract different types of people.

He admitted they took inspiration from WOW in ALOT of ways but tried to attract people who want more than WOW offers. Personally though i think WOW is better and Vanguard doesn't have any PVP worth taking about.

Except FFA, with risk & reward. Death means something again, though; I wish it was even more. They have already stated that they are looking into it however.

None of this instanced crap, capture the flag repetitive BS either.

    WOW PVP is a joke.

To the OP: WOW copied EQ. Vanguard is made by the people who made EQ. You would actually be more correct in saying that WOW is a copy of Vanguard.

Is doom2 simply a copy of a doom?

WoWs engine is Unreal made by guys at Unreal.  The art for the original Warcraft games was taken from Warhammer so in essence the art direction in WoW belongs to someone else.  Battlegrounds were done first by DAoC as far as I know.  Raiding was brought to us by EQ1, odly enough the same guys that bring us VG.  A lot of the quests in wow are drawn off of current pop culture, even NPC's are created from current pop culture.  RvR was done by DAoC, AO and god knows how many other games years before WoW.

You should inform yourself a little better.  When WoW was in developement they stated thier goal was to take the most popular features of previous MMO's and cut out all of the tedium, sounds familliar because every MMO developer since EQ1 has been singing the same song.

All of the features and elements you see in WoW were taken from previous MMO's, Blizzard has not come up with a single original concept, with the exception of the world and it's lore, in the two years the game has been out.  And this is a company that toted how they would be creating new and original ideas.

No ones copying WoW, everyone is copying UO, EQ1, DAoC, AO.

And the combat is absolutely NOTHING like WoW.  How else would you sell to a vendor, or get quests?  Outside of the UI can you show a single thing in VG that WoW did that wasn't in any other game previous to WoW, nope.  I can however tell you that the diplomacy sphere is an entirely new and original idea. So you have an engine created by Sigil (this is an original engine right?), and a game feature not seen in any other MMO. I would have to say its 2-0 in VG's favor.

Vanguard was a very different game in beta 2.  Of course everyone thought it sucked, so he bought the WoW behind the scenes DVD and re-designed his game.  First he stole the combat, ui, and quest system.  Then he took eq2's graphics and crafting, copied SWG's big empty world, and snapped on an MTG mini-game.  Way to stick to your guns buddy.

You mean the same quest system in EQ, EQ2, DAoC, SWG, L2, CoX, MXO.  How is the quest system the same as WoW when the quest system is the same in everyone of the games I mentioned?

How else would you sell to an NPC?  This again is the same way I sell to NPC's in every other MMO.

How can you cry that a game coppied everything it did off of another game when the game you mention has coppied EVERYTHING it does off of games that were made years before it?

Aricb . Sigil helped create EQ1 way before WOW. WOW copies things from EQ1. Vanguard comes out with some of the things in EQ1. Soooooo if you make the statement Sigil copied from himself you are more right than the statement you made. WOW was not the first MMO. LOL. Easiest yes but not the first. If you tried other games you might see that.

Anyone who thinks any game copied WoW is either like 12 or wow was their first MMO EVER.

WoW is not original in ANY way. Everything in it is copied from much older MMOs, including EQ, DAOC and the list goes on.

yep nothing original nother hack n slash troll game.

yeah this weekend was my first time ever playing WOW, then two days after I played WOW I went out and bought Vanguard so I guess thats why it seem like that to me. But now I see that  WOW has copied alot of other games, thanks for the info man.
  • AricBAricB Member Posts: 158
did not say I did not like the game , Hell I still play the game , but this is also my first time playing WOW this week end and for a bit there it kind of looked like WOW a bit to me but I never said it was not a good game.

To Say that Vanguard copied WoW is way off, every MMo out there has characteristics from other mmo's they find something that works really well an they they use that! WoW took a lot of things from everquest, an other mmo's.

Well lets see... Wow copied most everyhting from EQ1. The developers of VG made EQ1. So I guess Wow devs are using VG devs ideas.

Nothing... I mean nothing is original about Wow. Hell even Disney had those graphics first.

What a really stupid idea of Vanguard to copy a good interface, I mean if I was developing the game, I would reinvent the wheel, come up with someting completely different just for the sakes of being different, I mean that makes alot more sense to me.

Anyways I like the interface, its similar to wow, but it aint wow's. But saying that I've change the Arial font to Lucia Sans because that font is so much nicer and is the wow font, so ner ner ner.

Wow is a boring ass game compared to Vanguard, but the interface was great .
