So... how many are getting into beta?

jamz69jamz69 Member Posts: 7

I'd really  like to know a ballpark estimate of how many of the applicants will get in so I know my chances :P. I helped in the WoW:BC beta and it was some of the best times I had playing the game, but to me it seemed like there weren't all that many people that got in, since we didn't have many servers. I hope TR gets plenty so that the community will be pretty large when the game goes public rather then some other great games where they fell at the start because of community.

PS: CuppaJo, good to have you on board with TR, **cough** get me into beta**cough** lol. BTW, is there something wrong with these forums? All my spaces are messed up and in the wrong places....

Well they reported that they have had 20,000 applicants so far.

The first stage is of course the closed beta - we dont know how many they will have for that - but they are going to do rounds of invites. Closed beta of course being the heavy testing phase.

Before release there should be an open beta stage where the load balancing happens so tons of people will get in then - but that could be 3 to 6 months or more away.

Indeed, my very unofficial estimate for the first phase is that they will take in around 100-200 people. So don't get your hopes up too much for first phase ;) (btw don't put too much weight on these numbers their just what i think).

However if you have already signed up in the beta i think you have a good chance of geting in pretty soon assuming you got the right comp specs, live in america, and are over 18 years old.

Yea heh, I was signed uo Jan 11th then with my other account like 4 days ago, so I'm hoping one of them will get in. (One is actually mine and one is my moms).

I'd love to (the beta signup is mocking me in my PlayNC account page) but I need to build a new system first (I'm basing the new system off TR's specs so I'll have a good idea what games over the next couple years will be looking for).

I do not have a "ballpark" figure yet on the total number of beta invites we will send out - but if you have already signed up chances are good you will get in sometime during beta.

I'd gotten an email from them about being invited in and they were looking for specific specs on systems and had a survey to fill out.  It needed to be a bit more narrowed though because I think I may have messed mine up in the part about the processor.

They were looking for a minimum of equivilant to a 2.5 Ghz pentium and I put down that mine runs at 2.2 Ghz, but I use an AMD XP 3.5 processor, which supposed to be the equivilent to a 3.5 pentium, but they asked for processor speed so i put down what it runs at according to my system readings.  All other areas I exceeded the minimums on, but I've not heard anythign back since and am worried I might have put the wrogn data down in that one part and messed up my chances for this round of invites.

Still keeping my fingers crossed though, eager to test this baby and help make it good - we really need new blood in this genre and sci-fi types especially since SWG went the way of the dodo and AO is mediocre at best.

Hopefully I get into the beta...I signed up through my Play NC account. And what are the specs for the game? I put down 3.0 ghz processor, +2gb ram, and an ati radeon 550. I think it's good enough, I play CoX on high settings pretty good. But, I'm waiting to the summer to build myself a top notch pc

Well I joined the news letter in like early 2005. I also joined "A" beta in mid 2006. However I did just get my first news letter in a year or so, Its was a lenthy letter about the game and that beta invites were about to start and for me to go to the website and update my info. I had infact moved and got a new comp since I origanaly signed up so I did update it.

I am looking forward to my invite :). Play NC isnt a bad company. I am looking forward to a cross between AO, Planetside and CoH.

    Now go kill ten foxs.

Update: all the parts for the new system are ordered, except the video card which should be ordered within the next day or two. Just a matter of waiting on it all now. I'll apply for TR beta once it's up and running but it might be too late with over 20k players already applied.

Its never been said that it was a first sign up - first in thing.

What they said was they would be doing waves of invites, and choosing people to get a good range of different systems to test the game.

So I suggest you sign up now based on the computer you will be putting together in a few days time.

  • TalynTalyn Member UncommonPosts: 587
Good idea, I did that. I'm hoping the parts arrive this week during my couple days off, and I'll have it up and running a week later when I'm back home.
  • Lord_ZLord_Z Member UncommonPosts: 157
Yeah i signed up with the computer specs of the computer which i'm getting next week.

actually im pretty sure in the cuppa jo interview they did say that one of the aspects of being accepted was when you signed up.  thats just one of the things though.
  • _Shadowmage_Shadowmage Member Posts: 1,459

I think I remember CuppaJo saying the first wave would be people who won slots via competitions - like the auto assault one they did awhile ago.

  • DisastormDisastorm Member Posts: 318
yea she did say that.  i thought she also said one of the factors of being chosen was when u signed up but I couldn't find it in the interview transcript so I might be wrong about that.
  • TalynTalyn Member UncommonPosts: 587
Yeah I was actually accepted into the Auto Assault beta but at the time I was raiding so much in WoW that I never took the time to even download the AA client.
  • DisastormDisastorm Member Posts: 318
oh that sucks, I never played auto assault.  Anyway good luck with TR.  I was actually one of the contest winners in the Cuppa Jo interview so I really can't wait for the beta to start.

My original beta slot comes from owning one of those triskelion disks they gave away a few years ago. Can't wait to see the real thing
  • DisastormDisastorm Member Posts: 318
yea I remember those, that was before they changed right?  I hope the beta starts soon.
  • _Shadowmage_Shadowmage Member Posts: 1,459

well they did say February, but they were trying to get as much content and fixes in before starting. So I guess last day in Feb.

That would give me two weeks to finish all those games I never finished - Oblivian, Guild Wars - Nightfall, Dawn of War - Dark Crusade.

So just before Christmas break we started with outside beta testers—what we call "friends and family"—[and] we've been slowly expanding a few hundred at a time. In the next build, we're going to be moving up to the point where we'll be bringing in thousands of people at a time—and pretty soon going to closed beta within a month or so, where we'll have hopefully tens of thousands…then later in the summer to Open Beta where we have basically anyone who wants to play. So we're in that final push to launch at this stage. Tabula Rasa will come out this year. We don't have a public specific date yet, but definitely the light is at the end of the tunnel. We're tying up the loose ends and polishing it up so we can get it out the door

So according to the man himself - thousands are getting into the next stage.
