Inter City Travelling

Has anyone come across a nice "subway map" style kind of guide over public travel nodes? Or are they so simple it isn't necesary? I figured I'd take my fresh tier 2 char from Ca'ial Brael on Kojan to help my even fresher mate out on Thestra. He is currently on Konarthi Point. A guide combining inter contintental travel with simple city-to-city travel would come in handy... or is it only Kojan that supplies ships from one point of the continent to the other?

I'll tell you right now, that taking a level 10 char from the western point of Thestra to the eastern point, cross country, is NOT something you should try. I just did. I am still working on getting hold of my corpse and finding a safe spot long enough to recall...
;-)

So I restate; has anyone seen a map supplying all public transportation nodes so you can plan longer jorneys ahead..?

Thanks!

Ghoul, when I travel from Koja, the ship doesn't pass eastern Thestra. It shows up at the center of the continent - that's where I tried to swim ashore and run the rest of the way. Something that turned out to be a REALLY stupid idea. Maybe I could swim the whole way (if there are no swimming mobs), but it would probably take forever. Do you know of a shipping line that will bring you closer to the eastcoast somehow? Please tell me if so!

KombatJesus (nice nick, btw) - doesn't caravans require that SOMEBODY makes the actual journey..? You see, my friends chars starting position i eastern Thestra. Mine is Koja. We haven't actually met "in game" yet. If I am to get to him, I can't really use a caravan without having someone physically move from a point that I can get to, to where he is staying? Or am I wrong? I really don't know how caravans work.

    Thanks!

There are no water mobs, so you could just swim the whole way. I like to swim up rivers also, since there are no mobs in the rivers either.

Also, if you stay on the roads, you don't usually have to many problems with mobs.

Actually the run from New Tagonor to Konarthi Point is relatively safe if you stay on the roads.  I am a level 10 character and I have done that run many times, both on the road and off road.  Off road there are lots of level 20+ hostile monsters which are generally avoidable if you are very careful, but its not the easiest way.  On the roads, however, it is very safe as long as you don't go afk and you watch out for the bandits that line the road at some points.  Also if you're KOS in Leth Nurae the road might make life difficult for you.  It is, however, very possible, especially if you have some sort of speed buff which lets you outrun monsters that might aggro you.

Right now I do think it is possible to safely swim the entire way, but I don't think you have to.

Another alternative to swimming, as a druid past level 10, is to levitate. It allows you to run on the surface - and even to ride! With some speed buffs, travelling is suddenly a whole new experience. Made even better by people seeing you shouting "WTF!??2 etc.

It works nicely. I wouldnt go deep water, but staying of the coast is quite nice.

I would have to imagine that the lack of sea mobs is only temporary.  EQ and EQ2 had plenty of roaming sea mobs, granted their zone system makes things a little different.  WoW, which also sports a 'seamless' world has very few sea mobs outside of well populated coastal areas.  But I would have to imagine that Vanguard will need a populated sea to make sea travel by ship more of a necessity than a luxury, otherwise it negates a large part of the motivation for a private boat/ship.  Aggressive sea mobs, sea encounters, pirates...  Something that would make having a ship actually worthwhile.  Swimming everywhere with no threat of death would totally screw up game mechanics and the vision of what Vanguard strives to become.  I think it'd be great if they also implemented a system where the heavier the armor you wear the harder it is to stay at the surface, and if you wear plate or mail, you should just sink - to make it more realistic.  That way the only viable way to swim at top speed would be to swim naked (sans armor) or with specially crafted 'bathing suits'.  It would make it more realistic and add an extra element of vulnerability when swimming, which could also add a degree of realism.

Just some thoughts on this snowed-in morning!
