Because techincally the sale of ingame items, accounts, etc etc is against the User Agreement which all users of mmos click "I agree" to everytime they log in.    Its a very hot debate on whether companies can take legal action against players (such as suing them).  However it'd be very easy for them to go after Ebay since Ebay itself does not have accounts in the game.   Plus ebay has always been quick to remove items and actions from the system that are hot debate to avoid any liability.

I personaly think if your to lazy to make the money or build the character yourself you shouldn't be playing MMOs or atleast MMOs should just put up a server for people who play like that.  Its very annoying to be a real casual player and log on with 10 gold one day some bum next to you same level the day before had 10 gold but today he has like 1000 because he bought it.

Because they were afraid of lawsuits from MMO companies?

    They did?

I think you'll find there are still accounts for sale.

Sold my EVE account for $650 a few months back.

Ebay has never been one to "risk" anything, which is precisely why this occured.

How do you prove someone didn't send you the ingame money?

So many scams over MMO's happen over ebay.

So othe rthen getting sued they may not want to have to deal with all the problems associated with dealing with items that cannot be tracked ect.

Key words there, A FEW MONTHS BACK, this is a recent thing, and its due to its a law and eBay aint gunna risk their business.

"Why didn't they do it sooner", is my question.

I'm passionately against cheating, and when the game specifically does not offer cash-for-gold services and deems it illegal - yes - I very much do consider it cheating.
