Yup and although people say SLI isn't supported it does actually make a difference and thats what I have noticed - google search about how to create your own SLI profile for it using an existing profile and use the nHancer tool for it.

The only tweeks I have made is to slap every thing on full and fiddle about with the grass settings until it looks pleasing to the eye and set my res to my monitors native resolution which is 1900x1200 and that's it really.

Got another question you may be able to answer since you mentioned your ultra high resolution...
I use a Samsung Flatpanel HDTV (1080i) as my computer screen. I'll have to wait till i get to the house to give you the model number. It has HDMI input, and VGA input. I get a black screen if i try to hook up to the HDMI so i have to use a adapter to connect to the VGA. Because of this (i believe) i don't even have a choice for resolution above 13?? x 790 or so. (sorry for the lack of detail, i'm running on my memory lol)
lol, you made my soda come out of my nose. I'm in the same boat, getting frustrated just trying to play this friggin game which I hope is worth it. I picked up x1950 pro 256mb AGP and it won't work on my decent 6 month old machine.
I'm running Vista 64. Vanguard runs beautifully. Here's a couple things I did to improve performance;
Go through and shut down some of those services running like the Tablet PC stuff and the Infrared Detectors and crap like that. Then go out and buy a 4 gig USB flash drive because Vista will run its Virtual memory swap file from that automatically. When you plug in a flash drive it will ask you if you want to run the device as a ReadyBoost device. Then set the max size for your swap file. The flash drive memory is a thousand time faster then your HD. Also, Right click on Vanguard.exe and tell it to suspend highrez desktop while this program runs. You can even tell it that VG.exe should run as a high priority program and will get much better performance.
There are lots of other tweaks to check out. Use google search for Vista tweaks.
p.s. With that system there is something your missing here. There is no way in kansas that thing can only get 20fps. Do not remove any of that memory either... That was a problem on XP not on Vista. And it doesnt matter if SLI is supported (it will run as a single automatically..for now) you can run VG on your machine way better then my system. Keep playing around. Something is there i'm sure.
I know some of you guys are more up to date than I am about these kind of things. This is a quote from Alienwares webstie about Vista. I'm looking at a similar system, but was only going to get 2gigs RAM for now.
"Windows Vista does not currently support NVIDIA SLI functionality. If you choose Windows Vista with your SLI system, only a single graphics card will be enabled. Alienware will notify you once a Windows Vista SLI driver becomes available."
So don't flame me for posting this, it's what Alienware says, not me.
I finished setting up my dual boot last night (after pulling most of my hair out). Come to find out, i couldn't install XP AFTER vista. It would not dual boot. It would only go straight to XP. And i didn't feel like trying to figure out how to change the boot file. Anywho, i just whiped both drives, installed XP on one (and made the phone call to Microsoft to explain why i was trying to validate with the same key again ). Then installed all the newest drivers for my 680i, 8800s, and nTune. As well as installing nHancer and Vanguard. Then i installed Vista on the other drive with the Vista drivers for 680i, 8800s, and nTune for my x86 Vista. It also appears that Nvidia put nHancer in the NVidia control panel for Vista!!
drumroll please........
60FPS in Vanguard with all settings at MAX, IN CITY, at 1360x768 and 60Hz on XP
I do get some pretty aweful spikes though... some down to the teens
Just a note though the nhancer tool is not made by Nvidia but lets you make changes to game profiles without permanently changing the profiles which come with the nvidia drivers (Which nvidia lets you access via the control panel). nHancer also has more tweakable options so you can change various aspects etc.

Oh... and on my Monitor.... I'm using a Samsung LN-R268W 26" LCD HDTV for my screen.... It doubles as my screen for xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 since it is HD. However, it states in the manual that the HDMI does not accept PC input. SO... I have to use a dvi-vga adapter to connect to it. And its max res is 1360x768 at 60Hz. I would think that it would do much better than that since it is a 1080i HD. Oh Well... Am i losing that much?? Should i go spend almost 700 on the 22" Dell so i can have 1900x1600 or whatever? or is 26"s better at 1360x768. I guess what i'm asking is.... Is it worth it??
I did a little OCing as well... Got my multiplier up to 11 (it was at 7) and i think i changed the FSB to 300 but i think i noticed it dropped back down on its own... i think i'm at almost 3000 now.

LOL i just read my own post.... I THINK to much... its like it was all a dream.... maybe it was...lol
To be honest mate it is completely up to you. There are two ways at looking at it if your current screen provides you with a good quality gaming experience and is of good quality why bother?. On the other hand if you have the money to burn and simply must have a monitor that can play 1080p/1080i at their native resolutions (movie watching etc and ps3 console) then by all means go for it it will also make the most of your GFX cards . It is completely up to you but by the sounds of it you have a nice display as it .

I think i'll stick with what i got. Thanks for that advice. Its nice to get a unbiased opinion every now and then on a Forum
First of, I want to thank all the very intelligent folks who have been posting on this thread. You guys are awesome! This has to be the single best thread regarding Vanguard I have found on any board since release. Thanks again!
Now on to my question. I bought a new system last Friday (see specs below) and was wondering, when do you think Vanguard and Vista's drivers will be fixed enough that I am not scared to death to run the game on this system? My system doesn't ship until March 20, is that enough time you think?
It just so happens that that same computer is the one i modelled mine after. I wanted to save a little $ so i built it myself.
That said... It will run Vanguard. But you will prolly have the same problems i did for a while. Not enough problems that i would say don't run the game. By all means, after spending what you are, install and have as much fun as you can! During the time i had my problems, Nvidia released a driver for the 680i Mobo that i believe may have helped a bit.
The game will run in Vista, but with the drivers that Nvidia have out for 8800s and Vista (they are very Beta like) it will not run like it does in XP. But it WILL run and you can play. I have to give Nvidia a hand though. Since launch of Vista ( a week now) they have release like 5 drivers (between the 680i, 8800s, and Ntune) thats phenominal to me. Each was progressively better.
So my advice is, when you get the system, by all means install!! It won't mess anything up.... Worse case scenerio, you'll get framerates in the 20s. But some people playing now would die for that (see above posting)
I have confidence that Nvidia will get things going!
And... if you feel comfortable doin it... I would suggest the Overclocking advice i was given earlier in this thread. I changed my multiplier to 11 (which is really easy to do from your Nvidia Control Panel) and i had a significant boost in performance with NO ill side effects.
But like was said earlier, only do it if you are comfortable.
1. You are running vista, which dramatically reduces game performance. 2. SLI is not supported in vanguard. 3. If you are running a RAID, this has been shown to have problems.
1. It is correct that Vista reduces gameplay
2. Although SLi is not supported in vanguard does not reduce performance.... it just limits the increase you would get if it was.... I ran VG both with and without SLi... Not big difference. Especially if you are using profiles in Nhancer.
3. The RAID issue is only a problem with certain HDDs.. I would check up on that while you are waiting on your system.

$700?? I just bought a 22' widescreen monitor for $260 with resolution of 1680x1050. It's funny seeing you guys complaining about your FPS. I get 5 FPS on average and still enjoy the game.
