competition horizons

herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

Just had to say the new competition for horizons rules is a good welcome for us in europe.

weldone mmorpg.com!

This was something I totally did not expect .Now europeans have no reason to moan.

I remember a time I lead a protest on the rules after the "browser for a competition guy" won the fx5900 card and I have to say mmorpg.com has really changed the rules since then.

Even before the new european time draw I already was happy with the rules now I am double happyimage

Thanks for listening to the people.

Yeah, it's great the EU forum go'ers get a fair chance at winning. I wish all of them good luck. Though having played Horizons I can't help but feel three months of playing the game is more of a punishment, but hey - to each their own.

Actually its not the competition itself but the new rules for europeans.

Hopefully this will get carried on in all competitions that are open to europeans or have multiple prizes to win.

Even though I am from the US, I like the idea that Europeans will have their own chance of winning the contests.  Like others said, I hope they continue to do this in the future.  Also, a Horizons 3 month subscription is a pretty good prize...that is a lot of time to play a pretty good MMO image

I do not really care if I win or not, so I am looking at this purely from a logical point of view...

How are the rules fair like this?

It means anyone in the EU whose name gets drawn has an 8 hour headstart to confirm before anyone from anywhere else. How is that fair?

If 40 names are drawn and 15 of them are from the EU, then there is a much larger chance that 15 of the winners will be EU people since they have an 8 hour window to confirm before people from somewhere else.

TaskyZZ....I think the competition is totally separate for people living in North America and Europe.  From what I understood, 20 winners will be selected from North America, and 20 winners will be selected from Europe.  If I am wrong, someone please correct me.  Clarification on this would be nice image

If this is true, than that makes sense then it is fair (I think)...

Do people from other countries get to choose whether they want to be North America or EU? Like say someone from Asia???

    :)

Sorry, but this contest will not be a model for future contests.  This one just happened to be this way because the HZ Euro team (Game Networks) approached us to do the contest.  We then required them to obtain 20 matching US accounts to hold the contest here...being we are a site with 80% North American members and only 10% EU members.

Europeans should consider this a treat...but not the norm :)  Good luck to you all!

EDIT: Yes, this will be 2 seperate contests completely.  The contest page auto-detects your country and sends you to the correct form.  Only the countries in the continent of Europe can enter the EU contest.  All other countries will be entering the North American contest and playing the game from the North American shards...this is how Artifact and Game Networks set this up.

Thanks for the heads up Admin.

This is what I had in mind as I was thinking this one through:

...being we are a site with 80% North American members and only 10% EU members.

Yep - that is why I insisted that it give our North American members a fair number of prizes.  They actually came back with FAR more accounts then I expected (40 total!)...so on one should be unhappy with this one image

Only person unhappy with europeans having a seperate slot seems to be taskyzz although he keeps flip floping in every post he makes lol.

So admin how abot a chance in which say 20 accounts are up for grabs and 4 are slots  for EU members only.

It would be fair for the ratio and EU members would be able to draw at a reasonable time for europe.

I am not upset at all. Just looking at the logic behind it...

    And, on your idea here:

You are saying that if picking from all the members... 4 winners should be guaranteed to be EU?

Why should there be any discrimination like this at all?

I understand that by having the drawings at the time they usually do, the EU people are usually in bed when the drawings happen (3am ?? Just a guess)... One could argue that this actually gives you a better chance of winning... As, you could easily set your alarm clock and check to see if you won. The last drawing was held at 6pm on the West Coast of the US. I am never home or a near a computer at that time. It is not as easy for me to tell my kids I can't take them to Karate Practice or tell my wife we can't go to dinner because I have to wait and see if I won a drawing to play a game... But, you can set your alarm clock...

Don't take this as whining or complaining, as I am not. They can hold the drawings anytime they want. It is fair as long as you know when it is going to happen... But to set aside a number of places in the drawing for people in specific regions of the World would not be fair in any way, shape, or form. There should be an equal chance for everybody...

No, we won't divide them like that.  Only for a situation like this.  Because this particular game has seperate EU servers, and a seperate company that controls the game - it needed to be seperate.  We are also working with 2 different companies to bring this all together (Artifact and Game Networks).

    Good luck to you all!

It's too bad Horizons rep suffers from all the negative feedback of late.

As a new player of the game I don't see what all the fuss is about, I am enjoying playing a Satyr, kicking ass then working on trades at the end of the day.

I think once all the different races are unlocked and such, more people will experience (and even enjoy) the game.

I see potential, the same thing I saw in AO during its crap release a few years ago (which I still play as well) image
