Not sure if I can explain it.  when you come out of the starting area stay towards your right and run down the east side of CB along the edge of the mountain headed toward Autumnglow outpost.  Just be carefull cause youll run into Gataros.

Once you figure out wich trees your felling you'll begin to pick them out easier.

    Hope that helps.

Once you play for i bit you can just look at them and tell , there a little different than the normal trees , i can spot them from 2 km away now with out using my mouse just takes time to learn the game

Go find some treants to kill - experience and lumberjack levelling at the same time! :)  (well thats how I levelled up my lumberjacking initially.

I am having this problem also. I am an elf and I found the trainer on the way to Leth Nurae. There were some trees nearby so I started chopping them down along with some Treants but I havent found any other tress to fell other than those around the trainer.
Anyone else having this problem around Leth Nurae?
Im currently level 27 lumber and 27 harvesting but im sure last time I felled a tree my experience level didnt go up. What level do I have to reach to get to the next level of training? Also... what are those books the vendor sells? I bought one (Apprentice lumberjacking) but it said I wasnt high enough level to read it.

At the very tops of the trees are the whitened text marking them as harvestable; also they are usually shorter than non-harvestable trees.

There is actually a SelectNextNode key, which is defaulted to Ctrl+Tab.  However, if you go into settings, you can easy change that to something different.  I set mine to Q, because I don't use the Q key to strafe.  In any case, if you're having a rough time finding trees, just run around the woods hammering your TargetNextNode key, and watch for trees to pop up in the top right of your screen.  It's true though, after a while you can just sort of tell which trees are harvestable, and which aren't.  It seems to me that the leaves are a tad shorter than other trees, and the leaves are a bit thinner, as well as colored a bit differently.

I will say, however, that I do think we Lumberjacks got the short end of the stick when it comes to harvesting.  The rest of the harvesting classes have it way, way easier when it comes to identifying nodes than we do.  I mean, they literally say "A Copper Node", or what have you.  It would be nice if Sigil would toss us a bone.

In any case, start with the TargetNextNode key, it did me wonders at first!

You can also use the targetting system. If you're looking for a specific type of node or whatever. It doesn't work at very long range, but it's still handy.

Try typing /target weakened   (for weakened trees for example) and it should target the nearest weakened tree (if they're close by). Handy for running through the forest.

...as for the books, when you start you can only cust down "weakened" wood.  When you get lumberjacking to 100, read the apprentice book and you will be able to cut down "barbed" wood.

the trees are also labelled as well as the copper nodes basalt nodes etc etc. it just so happens that the label is on the top of the tree, so you cant really see it unless you look up when you get right on the tree or see it from just the right distance that it fits on your screen. either way, once you realize which trees you can cut down, its not a problem as  they are literally all over the place.
