Ended up going ahead to bite the bullet at Best Buy and purchase the game with a $10 gift reciet I had from christmas. Stood in line, then one of the tellers pulled me forward, he took a look at the game and gave me a big old grin and I coudl tell he was jsut as interested as I was, and he also had the same type of obligatiosn too. He asked me straight up 'You better tell me how this goes, I am a major MMO fan and I had no information on what this game really played like".
So here is a shout out to all of you only reading the negative comments, teh game needing more time, etc.. etc...
FIrst off, YES, the game is still being worked on, BUT! THere are changes that are actualyl beneficial happening at an alarmingly fast rate, and it makes me smile knowing they are pushign as hard as they are. In the space of 2 the past two days they have been smashign bugs left and right, throwing new animations in (thank god, my rouge looked sort of boring doing all my cool backstabs and such) And they are really really pushign forward!
Gameplay - This reminds me almost exactly like Everquest II in terms of runnign around and game interactiveness, the crafting diplomacy, and adventuring areas all are extremely fun to partake in.. nothing like standing in a room full of peopel crafting listen to the 'NOOO! *yelling and stamping feet* as peopel screw up their crafts (this does happen, quite literally) Or the WooHooing when someone hits their Grade A Item right on :-) There is alot more, but I'm just waiting for the servers to hop back up.. one of the spawns (several actually) had bugged from a few days ago so I'm hoping to complete a quest of mine when it comes back up.
Questing on it is jsut like Everquest II as well, lots and lots of quests at a time, they usually keep you out and about doing odds and ends for people, gathering said items, the standard.. but the combat and such in the adventuring line is definatly very fun.
I myself am now a Level 12 Raki Rouge, and enjoying every single bit of it! In groups people invite me in suddenly notice huge portions of the monsters HP knock off one second fter the next.. and yeah, you guessed it, Im probably dual DoT'ing and laying out my dual 400% backstabs followed by a bunch of debuffs and/or plundering items from the monster midround.
Very fun combat as a Rouge, being able to keep yourself in stealth even after attacking an opponent is a big boom, especially when they finally hit you and knock you out of stealth, then you follow it up with a flash bomb, whirl behind them, backstab, then throw a smokebomb and go back into stealth to throw anotehr dish of damage at them. VERY interactive gameplay, you really do need skill to play, theres no if's and's or but's about it.
ANyway, Thought I would leave a note for all of you out there, grouping is great on here, there isnt any slow time during a group, you usualyl dont have to take time to stop and heal, minus whats happenign in combat of course. Doing raids on caves and dungeons and climbing towers is a blast.. and I really recommend this game ot anyone with a variety of interest's in gameplay, I feel Vanguard might strike a good nerve on everyone who gives it a try :-)

Nice post and good to see a few talking about the good time we are having in the game. One of the big problems is most of us are too busy enjoying the game that we dont post anything here because of it.
This game isnt for everyone and truthfully no game is, but it is definately the game I have been waiting for and I will be around till it shuts down.
Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Hopefully others, like you, can look past all these haters and give it a shot. It's a truly amazing world.
I definitely agree, this the best MMO out there at the moment. The BETA put a lot of people off because of the number of bugs but anyone who has kept an eye on the patch notes will have seen that there are a huge amount of bugs being fixed almost every day!
For people who have said they will wait 6 months till the bugs are ironed out, I would say give it a month and try it again!
I usually play a tank class in MMO's and I have to say that Warriors in Vanguard have the best tanking mechanics I have seen of any class in any MMO I have ever played!! The combat really is very good, better than any I have played - it seems so familiar at first but it is actually a lot better than any other combat system out there.
Also, for anyone who is wondering about the size/quality of the community. This community is the best I have ever came across, seems so much more mature than any other game I've played, probably because all the kiddies are playing WoW. The community isnt small either, it can seem small at times but it is only because the world is so huge, the servers are far from empty! To be honest I hope this game never becomes as popular as WoW because I'm quite happy to leave all the kiddies in WoW
Very addicted myself, don't post here as often as I would like.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
I think you all just like it because apparently "it's kool to be hardcore" when infact the games not hardcore, does hardcore even exist? I don't think so, just think it's a fluff term for bugs get you killed making it harder to play lol. Probally all the emo's in this game going "yeh we're hardcore because we don't play WOW" lol wouldn't suprise me tbh.
End of the day they game snot worth paying $58 for (UK TAX) and then paying $15 a month for : It's too buggy and unpolished and have it's features arn't even as they said it would be. CHaracter customization is a sham and actually isn't uindepth at all.
On top of all the combat looks boring and animations are ugly plus so are the spell effects. Aswel as that they've tried to do too much at once and ended up as complete crap, less is more and tbh all the classes suffer from blandness because of this.

i repeat
and to explain myself...yes the game is not polished very well i agree but the combat is like in every other mmo out there that has click and attack style, some spells look good some dont but that aint gonna stop me from playing cmon....its FUN!! Plus the animations r very fluid and good looking, i dont understand ppl who have something against animations in this game....
2 cents
High poly models und high resolution textures don't make good graphics, it lacks the atmospheric immersion every other upcoming title achieves.
As for the game mechanics. In the last weeks of beta my Monk got completely revamped it was suddenly and surprisingly extrem fun to play. If the "patch me good" story of Vsoh continues, it will be definitely worth a second look.

how can you say it lacks atmospheric achievement???
i have to say that this is one of the most atmospheric games i have ever played...
Personally I love this game - its what I've been looking for and I'd have to rate the gfx as a 7+.
If it helps I didn't like the graphics at first either, but they grew on me the more I played and specifically the more I say of the world - oh and a good tip here, don't start as a cat - theirs is the worst looking starting location, in fact Qalia is the worst looking continent - to my eyes at least.
Currently Playing: GW2

I'd recommend it to anyone I know and I already have my girlfriend and best friend playing it and we're having a blast
Are we playing the same game? Combat is not "VERY" interactive by any stretch of the imagination, and there is very little skill needed. Grouping is certainly not great.. because you will be phantom booted from your group repeatedly and have to spend the next 15 minutes reforming your group. Maybe I'm missing something.. but that is just not fun to me.
And I have yet to see them fix any major bug. There have been some minor tweaks.. but we're still faced with the game experience killing group bugs and crafting complication nonsense.
There is fun to be had.. but I'm not always sure it's more than the amount of frustration.
Well I am having fun in this game too so far. I agree though that the character models definitely detract from the graphic quality. The characters look a bit like stick figures, except with ellipses instead of lines... Sorta that chubby unbelievable feel to it. It doesnt matter that much though, something you can easily look past and enjoy the gameplay.
Maybe the main problem though lies with the animations. The default humaniod stance is really silly looking... Very stiff and unbelievable. I really think a simple change in the default animation of a person standing still would really make the game feel complete. have the people stand in a relaxed way, turn side to side sometimes, have longer idle animations... Right now the characters are stiff as a board, with odd joint angles, and theres just one idle animation of the character brushing his arm with his opposing hand which doesnt last long at all and doesnt feel natural. If I could change one thing about vanguard, well one simple thing that is, it would be this.

I'm not sure what game the last two posters are talking about because the VG that I'm playing has quite realistic graphics. Incredible, in fact. Probably too realistic for your tastes. If you are used to cartoony graphics, then I imagine these newer, more realistic and detailed, graphics would seem strange to you.
Regarding animations, they're awesome. My buddy warrior comes into battle with a flying leap, landing a heavy axe with a thud. He then spins around and cleaves the beast. Then a kick. The animations are awesome; far far better than anything I've seen.
To the OP, I agree! I am spending every available second playing VG. I can't wait to hop on and play it when I get home from work and the gym.

Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon.
In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit
