I've tried lots of free MMOs. They're the ones are aren't worth it.  Money is nothing compared to the hours they've wasted of my life

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

The money doesn't just go into the developers pockets, in most cases they keep with the game, improving it, I know blizzard doesn't but other developers release free addons etc.

It depends on what you want. If all you want is unabashed grind, to log in and kill 100 monsters, I don't see any reason to pay a box cost and subscription fee. If you want a bit more, you're not going to find it with any current F2P MMORPG.

Personally I prefer pay2play-games. Those usually have a better standard than all those mindless "grind-till-you-puke"-games that we call free2play.

So far I haven't stumbled upon one single free2play game that's been even close to good.

    From my experience free games seem to have the same mold;

    • No character customization. Just a few premade characters to choose from making the game a "World Of Clones".
    • No content exept mindless bashing of monsters that are scattered in millions everywhere you look
    • No variety whatsoever when it comes to characters nor monster.
    • Customer support are next to non-existing. Or in best cases extremely slow.
    • And so on and so forth... blah blah blah and you know.

So I'll keep paying for my playing, just for the simple reason that I want a game that satisfies me.

It also depends on what you are looking for / want. MMO's are not the only games you can play online. There are always games like Neverwinter Nights, Guild Wars, Neverwinter Nights 2 just to name a few that are free to play and have persistant worlds. In the case of NWN there are many persistant worlds to choose from. Alot of then aren't so good but many are much better then pay to play games.

It depends on your playstyle. If you like grinding, stick with MMO's in general. All of them are nothing but dull time sinks and that isn't changing, look at Vanguard. (yes we are all very impressed we can hit an orc with a sword and pick up loot ten times then return to an NPC for a scooby snack and a pat on the head)

Their only saving grace is the persistant aspect and the large communities.  You want gameplay and depth, check out an actual RPG not these raid - grinders. Comparing free to play games to Pay to play is like comparing 2 different toothpaste...they are both the same thing only one is "minty" the other "brightens" take your pick and brush or in the case of MMO's grind. (ooooo...so cynical I have become lol)

I think pay to play is ok for mmorpgs but one thing i can't stand is having to pay for the game and expansions aswel as th emonthly sub : Makes no sense who your paying for development and yet your not at all because you have to pay another £30 for a expansion.

Tbh if they're gonna do expansions, make them like EVE Online and have everything free but the monthly sub. Stop trying to rip us off.

You're willing to devote hundreds of hours of your life to sit in front of a computer, but not use a small amount of money to it? It just doesn't add up IMO. Work few hours and play better games.

i think it depends on how much you like the game.. if the game you like costs $50 a month then its time to make a decision "is this game worth $50 a month" ... and sometimes the answer might be entering the credit card and closing your eyes as you press submit.. othertimes its a no... i dono

No new content....  Do some research b4 u flame.

Now back on topic.  i think $15 a month is a great price, what does $15 buy you? a movie rental, pizza and a 6 pack, totaa fun 5 hours, so $15 for 100+ hours of entertainment a month is bargin.

its not money that youre going to waste.... its your precious time in this very short life

thus, cupertino, sensing that you are an mmorpg addict... dont you think half of your life is wasted on something thats not gonna do any good in the end of this world. Gaming is a good pastime, but too much... is blatantly wasteful. An average human spends 1/3 of his life sleeping... and if you spend the other 2/3 on just playing, eating, drinking, going to the loo... really sad

You could pay 50-60 dollars(us) for a new game that will either last you until you beat it(wich is probably 3-4 weeks at the most depending the game) or last a little longer with multiplayer OR you could pay that same 60 dollars(not counting buying the game) for a mmorpg that you probably play for those entire 4 months.

Not realy im a plumber by trade and work for myself, i only work out of hours so i charge obscene amounts of £ for my call outs, typicaly £60+parts for a single call out, the average week I only put in 15 hours of work and take home £500/week, not to brag but this gives me alot of free time (and money) while my mates are in work, so I take my dogs out for a walk, go swimming and any other free time I play games.  I could not play MMO's if I worked a 9-5 40hour week.  Without MMO's id probably just TV or solve world hunger.

I've played several free mmo's where the community has been so atrociously bad that I quit, but would definately come back if it became p2p.

Only in gunbound have I seen rooms named "PERU=KICK <- READ" and "GIRLS ONLY" (run by a guy, obviously). Only in maple story have I had people call me a "blond niger" for not giving them money. Only in subspace have I received threats on my real life for "hacking".

$10-15 a month is next to nothing if you have a steady income. It's what, like 20-40 cents a day?

In my experience, p2p mmo's are also more likely to have better support and free expansions or content patches.

I believe that goo content is going to cost something. I also dony mind paying. Servers and employees cost alot of money. I also think however that even though i dont mind paying that the price a mounth is getting a bit insane. we think now that 8.95 a mounth is cheap compared to most games.(WOW WAR EVE ext.)  So yes i do beleive to pay i also believe that they MIGHT be getting a little greedy.

Game Past 7 Days Total v
Warcraft III Warcraft III - 144 hours
Shattered Galaxy Shattered Galaxy - 53 hours
    Flyff Flyff - 10 hours
Mu Online Mu Online - 10 hours
World of Warcraft World of Warcraft - 7 hours
Xfire hasnt been good with updating WoW is really over 100hours and guildwars should be up there at 40 hours.

It, of course, depends on the game. But as a general rule yes it is worth it.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

15$ is nothing considering the amount of entertainment you get from MMO's..or that I used to get to be honnest.

I dont know if this happens in the west but in my country and in the countries near me you can find a lot of private servers with games like Lineage 2 or WoW wich u can play for free and there are a lot of players on them. For example i play RF Online on a private server cause i cant aford to buy the game and pay a monthly subscription(im also a student) and i play for only 3-5 hours a day so im not really a hrdcore gamer(obssesd with games).

The only good game without a monthly fee is Guild Wars. At least in my opinion

So as long as you can't afford a product, it's fine to steal it? :/

Gaming is not a human right. It's a product you purchase. I don't mean to sound cynical, but if you can't afford it or don't think it's worth it, you don't buy it.

The free to play games in general have some sort of item/money shop where you can pay real money to get an advantage, you can't run servers without money, and you can't do a good amount of updates without money. The company is taking a loss if they aren't getting money from somewhere besides the purchase of the game.
