About time the MMORPG market started to grow out of the generic Dwarfs goblin and Orcs theme. Have played many MMO's in the past years the best being WoW. But now i want something new however, It just seems like most of the upcoming mmorpg's are trying to follow wows footsteps and creating something along those lines. War Looks promising but i fail to see anyway tey can create something new to this genre. AoC looks stunning and has many new features never seen before in any mmorpg and well GnH is something completely new and imo will be very appealing to a huge market. Its different. It contains some REAL history. The combat looks sweet and refrains from the button bashing style. And many many more things.

I hope it lives up to the hype!

All the things I have read and seen, I believe it will live up to the hype. It comes out a few months before AoC, so I will be able to get into it pretty well before I have to make a real tough decision.

So, it seems somewhat similar to Guild Wars to me, though I know it will feature allot more in terms of game mechanics. What I'm wondering is, even after looking through their site and forums, is if the $15 or so a month will bring allot more towards the mmorpg aspects. I'm sure the pvp and squad combat will be fun and I know there will be some guild features, but will there be more for player interaction? Economy, territory, etc.

I'm not a big fan of instances dungeons or zones. I'm just a little worried that it will brake down into questing for items and levels, then a few people face off in some instance. I've heard they plan for a future RvR system, but will it have a purpose other then beating down each other for a half hour then back to questing? I simply want to know what the monthly payments will do to set it apart from any rpg like Guild Wars and make it an mmorpg. I'm not bashing the game itself at all since this will most likely be the game I'll be playing, just want to know what to expect.

In fact many areas of Europe had Celtic influence. Check it out.

does the words "off-topic" mean anything to you?

can u not see the sticky "Official- We are angry at SOE Thread"?

if you had done even the slightest bit of research you would have quickly discovered SOEs involvement is restricted to printing CDs and getting the boxes onto shelves. Server hosting, customer support etc are all done in-house by PE

Just like many of  you, I have been reading a lot about this game, and so far it seems like its going in the right direction, its amazing to me,because I'm also in love with the roman times, as well as the Greek,  and older empires that existed.

So far the combat looks wonderful and  the world and models look beautiful and its freaking awesome that they want to add later on different empires and myths I defenitly cant wait to try it out and I'm really hoping as you guys  are, that it will be one of the games I stay with for a long time.

Oh yea baby..this game I have been following along with Darkfall.   However I am more anticipating GnH because of the potential I see in Perpetual to make a new WoW.   Don't get me wrong I hope everything about it is better than WoW...but for comparison purposes I will use just that.

This game had my jaw drop when I stumbled upon it while browsing a new mmo.  I will definately wait for this game to release and have fun waiting.  Every new update on Perpetuals progress (which has been amazing especially within the last year) shows that this game will be good.  The roman times fascinated me since middle school and finally we will have a quality MMORPG based on not only roman culture but the mythology along with it.

I don't want to blow any smoke or hype this game up too much because every game has the potential to fail, but this title shows so much promise that I anticipate not only release, but the updates themselves.  The features alone are everything I'm looking for right now in a PC game,  And i can't tell you all how happy I am that we are steering away from the "vaguely slash in  one direction and do dmg" games.

To any dev working on GnH who might read this post....PLEASE take your time and make this a "quality" MMO..A TRUE gamer will not mind waiting a bit longer for a great gaming experience to fill their entertainment needs...because mine as of now are sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

oddly enough they are exactly the 2 that i am following most closely - oddly because they are as different as chalk and cheese with absolutely nothing in common... (except i think they are perhaps the most forward thinking and original designs upcomming)

    GnH

    • beautiful classical architecture
    • locked turn based or timer cooldown based combat like most MMORPGs, but looks superior to others of this design
    • squad combat / tactical element
    • god powers
    • mythological atmosphere
    • largely quest driven
    • PVE design (sure there are FFAPVP servers, and TvT, RvR and Arena ladders to come)
    • standard level based character progression

    DF

    • medieval sword and sorcery world
    • 100% twitch skill / aimed combat (no target lock / not turn based) freindly fire is an issue
    • dynamic player driven environment (inter clan - inter race conflict)
    • made for PVP, full loot, no safe zones
    • no player levels at all, only improve skills with usage

I hope pvp will be like in DAoC, just after release of the 'New Frontiers' pack.

Pvp in WOW sux last year. If u die in pvp with eve-online then ur often not able to come back for hours. And the loss of ur stuff can be realy painfull.

The graphics of this game are uptodate...not to old not to new...probably good enough for pvp without lag.

Ya, from what I'm seeing in the beta journals, it should run pretty smooth. I'm really hoping they don't suddenly decide to try for the latest and greatest in graphics and game engine. At this point, this should be a game that most of my friends can play, that's a big factor for me right now since most new games out now or on their way just aren't playable by most of my friends.

I wouldn't call it a turning point for mmos, not a whole lot is new or original aside from a few key features. I wold call it a paving of the road before the turning point. They seem more interested in polishing up as they go along re-molding classic features of mmorpgs and rpgs. I don't like quest driven games, I don't like levels and class systems, and I hate instances. Still, somehow it looks like it will be really fun and not overly done in a way that the developers will trap themselves down the road.

Like I've said before, by all accounts AoC should be the game for me since it has all the aspects I've been griping for, but this looks like a game that most of my buds can play and have a few good hours of fun after work. I also hope and I'm pretty sure that it won't be a WoW killer. The last thing a decent game needs at it's beginning is to have that whole crowed. They're taking some chances, and not by way of making things more complicated or advanced, but actually simplifying some well known mmorpg features. Item stats for one, I'd suggest checking out their site to understand that one since I wouldn't be able to word it well enough. Basically, an item stat will effect exactly what it shows in a direct manner, instead of an overall stat that might effect a number of character attributes, which usually makes for a tricky formula that for the most part, might not actually have any effect at all, being more of a placebo attribute then anything els.

I hope to get into beta because the beta for auto assault I tried clued me into the fact the game wasn't that great, so if this game is going to flop then at least a beta would help clue me into that fact faster....
I have high hopes for this game and plan to try it out.....hoping for the best

Yes, it's City of Heroes and City of Villains.  When Villains 1st came out  and Cryptic announced one monthly subscription would cover both games, everyone on the boards over there just started referring to both of them as City of X or CoX.

I spend a lot of my time in that game too, but recently have been getting some itchy feet.  None of the other released MMOPRGs grab my attention, Tabula Rasa just doesn't interest me for some reason, LOTR online seems more about the name then the game, but G&H is sounding promising.

Hope they have an open beta soon....
