Aye I bought it -- preorder -- and updated/upgraded my puter (it needed it anyway). Although there are some things to work out, they are indeed patching constantly and get this!!!! customer service or gm help or any sort of help I have tried to do and report and etc. etc has been answered almost immediately or fixed almost immediately.
A few tweaks on the .ini are needed but they have a stickie up to walk ya through it. A workaround while they work on optimizing. On my machine, the game runs smooth as hell. On my sons,at slightly higher than minimum specs and the workaround, smooth with just a bit of a lag in the populated area but nothing that will stop the game or movement. On the family puter, at a definite minimum specs , and the workaround, some lag but nothing not seen in games that are 4-5 years old. Not earth shattering and not aggravating enough to not play.
As I said, they are definitely patching on a constant basis. I have seen posts that ppl are already saying " they never fix anything"... LOL its been out a week! lol okay maybe 2/3 weeks but they are definitely working.
Community is a bit quiet so far though quite helpful. When a shout out is done asking questions though its usually answered as best as anyone else knows. Its a nice relief from the chat epeen spammers or the socialopathic jerkz in other games.
Quests make sense, some even, <gulp!> make ya think! There is the usual delivery routine but not too many of them and most of them make you deliver to yet another quest giver. No shortage of things to do. The Diplomacy is awesome. The crafting is a great system (not mindnumbing, as least not yet). PVP needs work but they are working on those issues as well. At least you CAN pvp.
Although its a new release, buy it. The things that need work are not hard to be patient for especially when you see what they are doing on a constant basis. Yup, I think this game will stick around awhile.
I went No... even though the game does interest me, and what I have heard/seen it does look OK.... but I got other games before this one to buy and pay for , that are on my list of wanted games...
Maybe down the track, if there is a trial, I will try it out and it might get me hooked into buying it.. I duno... but at the moment it is a NO....
I didnt vote because both options suck. IF i knew what i know now, no i would not buy vanguard but i have good faith in this company due to they are patching daily to fix things and im sure in a month - two months time vanguard will be fine then ill buy it. Vanguard = great game but alot of bugs and preformance is killing it.
I realize its "release" and that there would be issues with connectivity, performance, etc. and I accept that. The issues are numerous and thousands of people can't play at all most of the time. But I accept that.
However, instead of fixing these issues, the chat server issues, the logging into the game and not being able to see your guildchat, not being able to join a group, showing up as offline to all people on your friends list, having your friendslist wiped every time you log in, having your settings revert on you randomly for no particular reason, having the tooltip windows freak out your graphics and the thousands of other minor issues that all add up to make the game very frustrating - they have decided to take down the servers during PRIME TIME to do an 'emergency fix'. And you know what it was? Class nerfs and the encouragement to buy food for out of combat regen.
Oh, this was necessary.
I don't even know if I'm going to be back in a few months, because it seems that the goal of Vanguard is to force players to join pick up groups once you get out of the starting area. I say pick up groups because the way the continent is laid out ( and the extreme user unfriendliness of travel ) unless you and your friends all play the same race, don't expect to play together till level 15, and if you start on different continents well....good luck to you. All of my friends I came to VG with made Thestran toons to be able to group together. I really wanted to play a disciple and guess what...no Thestran races can be disciples. Which means even if I did do the two hours on foot through dangerous and often deadly territory to get to them, I'd have to do it again every time I needed to see my trainer. Did I mention the faction grinding issue needed to go to certain towns within the same continent?
But, whatever. I accepted I'd have to solo for a while. But tonight they have decided that solo is no longer possible by completely obliterating all of my skills. Not tweaking, not adjusting, but DESTROYING the disciple class. I have less time to play than everyone else, shall I reroll again and hope that the nerfbat doesn't swing at the class I choose next? Shall I stand in town, at level EIGHT, looking for a group to complete my essential quests?
The VG forums, such as they are, are silent. But the MMORPG forums are alive and kicking with posts since this recent update. Could it be we are all here looking for a new game to play?
Gaming? That's not gaming! That's just people sat 'round in costumes drinking...

That's one mature input I have heard from anyone! Thank you!
Not sure yet, still downloading the client. I will try it out using a Buddy Key someone was kind enough to give me.
I have to say so much more and Ive erased this post a few times. I will wait and see how it pans out in my trail. I've read a lot about the game and posts upon posts, that if I didnt get the Buddy Key I would have just walked away. I never played EQ, I tried once when it came out but it wouldnt accept my CC. I instead played UO and was quite happy for a few years.
Do I cower in the face of a "Hard" game? No, but it had better be fun or whats the point. Nerfing classes and lowering XP and Coin just so you can roll up on your competition and call them pussies and show them your scars isnt fun happy time. Im not the gamer I once was and spending all day in front of my computer isnt an option. So I will come back once the client has downloaded and I have or have not played and revisit my answer.
Will I bitch and whine about how I couldnt play or how the game is too hard? No, I dont bitch and moan about games, I just move silently on after giving my feedback. Life is too short to spend on unimportant things and lord knows MMO's are a dime a dozen.

ArmySurplus makes no apologies if someone other than him has already posted his reply in part or otherwise. He cant be expected to read every single post on a thread and makes no promise to do so. If you posted a similar reply before him you undoubtedly stole his thoughts and used them without his written authorization. Please return to your post and edit it so that his post is the first to state whatever the hell he was thinking at the time. Thank you!

Well, this is just one of the reasons I like this game so much
This is an RP game, and the world is huge. What you are explaining just adds so much more to the immersion for me.
If I start out as a Wood Elf in Kojan, how can I know a Dark Elf from Qalia if I have never met him before ? He is on another continent and it will take time, travel, visiting several cities and regions until I can meet him ? WOW. I love this.
I prefer this much more than having a much smaller world where all the races are all close to one another; or a huge game like EQ2 where you -> *ONLY* <- have 2 cities, add the zoning to it so it actually feels like a very small world with a lot of added external hunting grounds that feel to be out of that world. This is the reason why I left EQ2 at lvl37 to go back to L2, to be in huge world with cities I can travel to and explore, etc... This is what I was missing in EQ2, and this is why EQ2 was a game I did not enjoy playing, it had no soul.
I have seen too many other games that are fun in the beginning but get boring fast. VG is not about instant gratification (although I am in awe with what I see and discover all the time). VG is a long term "RP" game.
As for factions, they add so much more to the experience. Yes, a Gnome is not friends with an Orc, I certainly hope this can be expected
You don't like that the races are not all the same ? I am glad they are not
Of course, everyone has his opinion, we don't all like the same things, so fortunately there are enough games for everyone.
was in Beta, enjoyed it in spite of the bugs, and there has been a very strong effort to resolve issues. i'm willing to tough out the rough spots to see what it will be when finished evoloving.
